Dino painting!
Check out this gem of a video for our next Sunday class! YAY!
Upcoming art events! Come out and support local art, music and small business!
I don't know what I knew before but now I know I wanna win the war. We did it! We are finally in business at our new building. Although not officially open, we are in stage 1 of artifying Milan. We are currently hosting weekend classes and private parties! Check our website and facebook for updates!
MINI GALLERY!
We have been working hard on the building, and have put up a temporary mini gallery in our windows! Drive or walk by to see the art by our resident awesome artist, Wendy Hailey!
Go to Wendy's Etsy shop to support Artz!
We are fortunate to have lots of talent on our team! Resident Artist Wendy Hailey and her father have been fixing us up with a Toddler table, Outside Sign, and Color Wheel for demonstrations! We will be in the building some this weekend to work on the building! Soon, we will be up and running!
Birds in the sky you know how I feel......I'm feeling good! The roofers are a-working and the sun is a-shining. Enjoy your day, and do a little dance because the roof should be done this week :)
Apologies for the lull in information about our process to move in to the new Artz building. We have had to postpone all of our March events due to the pending roof! We can’t have rain leaking on the guests! Anyway, we just got word that next week will be beautiful weather for roofing, and hopefully Mother Nature won’t pull a rainy rabbit out of her hat and delay the process further. We've been working on lesson plans, marketing ideas, inventory and more, but once the roof is done, the games really start. So, if you are interested in being a part of our growing art/music/nutrition/education/culture community, please feel free to email [email protected] and tell us how you can help! Volunteers of all disciplines are welcome! And… Sugar Town by Nancy Sinatra seems to be a good song right about now.
What I like best about this song is that it shows the beauty in collaboration. When you get like-minded people together working toward a common goal, there is not much that can keep you down. Alright, you restless folks, get to it. Were ready, and don't you know this life is good enough.
AgesandAges - Alright You Restless Lyrics
Artist: AgesandAges
Album: Alright You Restless
Alright, you restless, arise and make believe it isn’t dangerous To show the fervor you hide. Your big idea’s safe with us. We’ve got no act to critique, no reason not to take you serious. So, mull it over, you’ll see you’re bigger here than where you’re at We’re ready and don’t you know this life is good enough We’re ready and don’t you know this life is good enough So get on, get up, you got so much so many wither away But that won’t happen to us I came up hard with a weight that didn’t ever seem to taper off And no amount of restraint could keep it all from adding up But, here our conscience is clean and we’ve no need to make apologies And all who come are the same, you’re bigger here than where you’re at We’re ready and don’t you know this life is good enough We’re ready and don’t you know this life is good enough So get on, get up, you got so much so many wither away But that won’t happen to us
I saw the sign....
Thanks to Wendy Hailey, we have a new sign awaiting your eyeballs! We'll keep it perched outside of our new building as a reminder our store opening! "No one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong..."
Planting the seeds, watching them grow.
Spring is probably my favorite time of year. Although it's not exactly here, we all can feel it in the air. The weather is warming up, birds are chirping, people are coming out of hibernation. A new beginning is among us. It's time to plant some seeds, to ensure a healthy garden this spring and summer. So that's what we are doing. We are planting seeds in your brains so that you can grow with us. We are sowing our ideas to the community in hopes for a plentiful harvest, not just for us, but for everyone we encounter. Metaphors are the greatest, huh?
So, last night I watched a documentary about the musician Socalled who uses his heritage as a Yiddish Jewish Canadian and mashes his style with a variety of artists. It was a really interesting process that he goes through to make things happen. Mostly he just stays determined and inspires others to see the big picture. Some may say he's a little strange, but aren't we all. For your motivation and mine...... Work with what you got.
Past, Present, Future
Who are we and where did we come from?! Maybe some of you will ask that, maybe you won't. What's most important to us is that you get to know what Artz Underground is and the type of impact we want to have on our community in the future. Just so you know where we have been and where we want to go: Past: As children, our Artz crew all had struggles finding our niche in West Tn. Art was not a priority in schools and was a rarity throughout our area. Luckily, we all found our paths, and seek to provide what we missed out on: A place that welcomed us for who we are, and gave us the foundation to succeed in what we love. Artz Underground formed out of that desire by Jodi Heavner and Brandy Kemp (bkP), which began offering art classes, painting parties, birthdays and commission work through Word of Mouth. Present: We are stepping up to the plate. In Spring, we are opening our building at 1013 Williamson Street in Milan. This is an exciting event for not only Jodi and Brandy, but our resident artist, Wendy Hailey, and musician, Santiago Reyna, along with many other Creative Associates! Each day we take steps to have our space ready and we continue to offer low cost art classes and painting parties to amp up the art scene in Milan, Tn.
Future: We believe our future is bright. With plans in the works such as community events, art shows, gallery openings, a handmade boutique, walk in art activities, painting parties, art classes, and much more, we hope to reach out to those children, teens, adults and elderly who have been longing for a way to create! We want to be your safe haven to experience the world of art, music and culture! :)
