“anne, baby --- baby, no. no, not upset. i’ve done way worse than this.” maybe she wouldn’t be so freely admitting it if she were drunk, but alas. it probably won’t bother her at all, as a given. “well, yeah. why wouldn’t there be?”

Riley laughed softly and shook his head. She must not have been kissing the same guys he had. Or had kissed Eros. But he’d let her think so. He teasingly took her hand and twirled her before tugging her towards the kitchen. He took a picture with her, red lipstick stain on his cheek and all, and set it as his Facebook profile picture. “Come on, let’s get some water in you. Because I don’t have plans to make out with a drunk Arwen tonight.”
spinning around, she had to twist quick enough so that she didn’t snap her ankles in the high heels. luckily, she was rather adept at keeping her balance when a few inches off of the ground and falls tended to be anomalous. she posed with an enthusiastic pout for the picture, however, refusing to look bad on the internet even in her state. “water? nah, i mean ... i was thinkin’ more of a martini.” she suggested, leaning against the counter.

“that’s true. i haven’t been twenty five in a few years.” he nods, as if he understands. “yeah, why would you? stay here with the people that put up with your icy stale personality, yeah? anyways, depends. how badly do you want me to be there?”
“no, i wouldn’t have thought so. you aren’t an ol’ nanna like me.” she teases in response to his dry tone. “stale? that’s just cruel, now. i’m slightly dull sometimes, but i’m not a loaf of old bread. i love myself too much for that. how badly do i want you there? hm. about as badly as you want to be there, i’d guess. i’m gonna be hurt if you don’t wanna celebrate my birthday.”
“alright, let’s go sit around and tell each other our most embarrassing stories of last year.”
“is that an invitation to do so first? okay, alright.” she could think of plenty of secondhand embarrassment stories she was willing to tell, and so she places her drink down so she can adequately gesticulate. “this is kind of on par with badass, mind you. anyway; mercy’s twenty-seventh birthday, earlier this year before i graduated. we were at this frat party, right, and it was the four of us; me and my housemates. we made everyone go quiet, plannin’ to sing her happy birthday on the sly and everythin’. so we start the singin’, she’s stood there in the middle, adequately wasted as i bring out the cake. long story short, i tripped. i wasn’t even in heels. i just tripped, went flyin’ and landed on her, cake everywhere and a broken nose --- not my nose. hers. she starts cryin’, all loudly in front of everybody, and i feel so bad ‘cause she literally never cries, she was just hella drunk and now she was in pain, too. so, being the heroic one wanting to repent for my mistake, i ask ‘em to google how to fix a broken nose. i mean, why call the ambulance when your tipsy friend’s got it all under control? so we’re both still covered in frostin’ as i’m doin’ this, sheba’s holdin’ her head and i’m watchin’ this youtube video and trying to feel for the breaks. but you know what? i did it. i fixed it. and even though the guilt was horrible and she probably wanted to break my nose in return for the whole escapade i caused, it was a huge victory for team wen, in the end.”
“how do you know santa isn’t calling everyone a hoe in here? for all we know there’s an ‘e’ behind it.”
“really? this is the kind of genius thought that you entertain?” she considers. “hoe. hoe-lle.” she laughs at her own joke, even though it really isn’t that inspired.
“i could use some extra hands over here.”
“it’s not my fault you were born so short, y’know?” she teasingly reminds from where she’s untangling some fairy lights. planning for new year’s eve easily excites her more than christmas, and after a moment she lays the string of lights down to get the box of smaller decorations from the highest shelf without much struggle, handing them to alessia. “there we go.”
