Spock’s mind was slightly hazy still but he recalled that she had introduced herself but he was mildly preoccupied at the time and had not returned the gesture. He stood up straighter and lifted his head, “I am Spock.” He told her, “Would you mind if I remained here until I am due to leave to arrive at my appointment at the Healer’s?” He questioned after a moment.
"I was attempting to find a place that was relatively quiet so that I might read instead of remaining in the confines of the Vulcan Embassy until the time of my appointment." He explained.
Maya gestured to the empty courtyard, "I'm pretty sure this counts as quiet," she raised an eyebrow, "It's good to meet you, Spock. Did you want me to leave you in peace? I'm sure I could find somewhere else to study if you'd prefer."
Finding quiet places on campus was quite a task, but Maya was sure that Spock needed the space more than she did. She could always find a nook in the library, and she had perfected a glare that sent most noisy cadets running.

"I have found that it does not matter where one originates. If one does not follow the social norms or engage others as is expected, they are often cast aside and considered strange." He allowed himself to tilt his head slightly as he watched her brief embarrassment. He found it fascinating that acceptance was so sought after that others felt shame or embarrassment in the fact that they were not accepted. He had not known such an idea until the incident and had not really cared for it since.
"I thank you for assisting me, Maya. I am not sure I would have recovered as quickly if you were not here to speak with me." He told her after a moment of consideration, "I do not believe that you need to be Vulcan, you seem logical and engaging. Those who do not see that should likely obtain a vision test." He added.
"Anytime," Maya replied warmly, letting out a small sigh before flashing him a smile as he complimented her, something that was a rarity these days. It was a nice thought.
"You should tell everybody else that," she snorted in reply, rearranging the strap of her bag on her shoulder. Maya wished she had the confidence to ask whether he wanted to stay, but she was pretty sure he wouldn't - and she'd end up sounding like an idiot in any case. After a pause, she realised he had never told her his name.

He brought a hand to his forehead, leaning his brow against his index finger and thumb. “We need more, but requesting won’t do any good. They’ve got more on the way, but even that’ll be tough to get by on.” He shook his head, dropping his hand to his side. “We’ll have to make do with what we’ve got.”
He started to turn, but stopped, wincing as he suddenly felt dizzy. Leaning against the wall, he returned his hand to his forehead and pressed between his eyes in an attempt to dull the pain that was building there.
Maya noticed the apparent pain that the Doctor was in and crossed over to his side, her features moulded into a look of concern.
"We'll manage," she said firmly, "You need to rest, Doctor. I can take over for now. Did you want a painkiller or something?"

Daniel growled at her, becoming angrier as the hunger got worse. He walked over to Maya, coming to a halt only inches away from her. "Don't tell me what to do.", he said, his eyes glowing in the darkness of the park. He didn't know who or what she was, but he certainly wasn't afraid.
Maya didn't flinch, meeting his gaze with an intense glare of her own. It had been a while since she had faced off a vampire, but she was sure she was up to the challenge.
"Let me make this very clear. You are on the territory of my kind now, and trust me, you do not want to see what we do to those who cross us."

He blinked in realization. There was so much McCoy could think of when the schedule was so imprinted in his routine. His expression softened into an apologetic look and the doctor stood opposite Maya at her desk, fingers starting to drum on the surface. “Don’t spend too much time with it.” There’s always tomorrow, he wanted to say but he was already at fault for keeping the woman engaged.
It did, however, strike him that she was already wearing a formal attire. Which added to the pent up guilt. He masked it with a smile. “I wouldn’t want you to be late.”
Maya kept her eyes on the PADD, fingers flying over the screen. In response to Doctor McCoy, she simply shrugged one shoulder.
"I don't think anyone would notice if I was late," she said after a small pause, glancing up briefly from the PADD and then back down again as she spoke, "But I'm sure this won't take too long in any case."

"You think I kill people?", he asked her, feeling very insulted. "I guess you would though.", Daniel mumbled, shoving his hands in his pockets. "You probably think we're all remorseless killing machines."
He wouldn't let what Maya thought get him down though, starting to walk off in the other direction. "Nevermind." Daniel said quietly. "I'll go find myself a hooker or something to feed on. At least they aren't hard to convince."
"I wouldn't if I were you," Maya said, her voice becoming more dangerous as she followed him, "Werewolves aren't the only supernatural creatures who are stronger when the moon is full. I will warn you again, vampire. Leave this place, while you're still in one piece."

"I believe I am sufficiently past the incident." He answered instead of giving her an answer akin to ‘Vulcans do not feel’ because he knew it to be blatantly untrue and he could not consider himself sufficiently Vulcan anymore to be able to back up such a statement. She had seen that it was untrue at any rate.
"Many choose to ignore me, in general, you do not seem to have the same aversion. I have been informed that my social skills when it comes to humans is sufficiently lacking and many find my manner to be unintentionally overly honest." He commented after a moment.
Maya's lips quirked to one side at that, "I get told the same thing all the time. Though I don't have the excuse of being Vulcan to fall back onto," she shrugged, "I couldn't exactly leave you like that. Doesn't matter who or what you are."
She glanced down at her feet and then back up again, briefly embarrassed at having revealed her own alienation from her fellow cadets.

Spock closed his eyes tightly and drew a deep shuddery breath, trying to control himself. He could no longer hear her voice, only the rush of this girl’s blood in her body, but just when he thought he was going to lose control the world started to come back to him. Spock opened his eyes and looked up at her, before taking her hand.
Having hauled him upright, Maya gave him another look. He was definitely pale, his cheeks slightly sunken. She dropped her hand back down by her side and let out a little puff of exhalation.
"Do you need help? You look like you could use something to eat, and sitting by the side of an alley-way isn't precisely the safest place to be."

Daniel pulled his arm out of her grasp, shooting Maya a very irritated look. "There's nobody out here.", he said to her, gesturing to the empty park. "It's not like anybody would have noticed."
He looked back to Maya, noticing that she was starting to smell better and better now. "Where do you expect me to find someone else to feed on within the next few minutes?", Daniel asked, feeling his fangs starting to push against his lip. "Unless you're volunteering..."
"I'm sure someone would notice the body," Maya snapped, aware of his growing hunger, almost weighing upon her. She stepped back, eyebrow raised at his suggestion, "I wouldn't try it, if I were you."

Spock still stood with his hands behind his back. His fingers clenched around the opposite wrist. He offered a slight tilt of his head, his dark eyes searching, wondering. He was silent for a moment and then he allowed his hands to fall to his sides, consciously forcing himself not to curl them into fists, it would be seen as hostile, he was sure.
"Many Vulcans wear gloves when first meeting people. It is a means to an end. Humans are very tactile creatures. Handshakes are very interesting which is why one would generally offer a Vulcan salute instead." He lifted his hand in a Ta’al as an example, "Many here do know that much about Vulcans. Casual touching is frowned upon." He explained, his hand shook slightly and so he placed his hand back at his side.
"I do not wear them for this purpose, however, as you seem to have surmised. I wear them because they were medically required." He answered.
Maya considered him for a moment. She was bright enough to pick up on the fact that he said that they were required - implying they were no longer medically needed at least. She was beginning to piece together the puzzle, but she didn't dare ask what had happened. It would have been a question too far, and while Maya found socialising difficult, she wasn't a total idiot.
"Are you feeling alright now?" she asked instead.

Jim had spent the majority of the day in the bath, topping it up every time the water started getting cold and trying to reach a state of calm. It hadn’t helped, and he had made himself sore trying to solve his little problem. In the end he dried and pulled on jeans and a jumper, before heading to the observation desk to sit under the stars.
He was surprised to find Maya there, and even more surprised to find her with a bottle of whisky. “Hey.” Was all he said, remaining in the doorway.
Maya glanced up at the sound of footsteps, waving a hand at the Captain as he appeared in the doorway. She lifted the bottle of whisky with a shrug, "You want some?"
After all, making sure he was of sound mental health was important, and sharing a drink with the Captain wouldn't be a bad idea.
