{Double Date}
Pairing: Pokecafe 🌴☕️ (+bonus Ayatop)
Narita Top Road and Jungle Pocket get along just fine. They are roommates and friends after all. Every now and then they’ll spend some time together doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with racing. One of their favorite things to do is kick a soccer ball around on one of the academy fields. Pokke is actually pretty decent at it, especially considering she had never really played soccer before hanging out with Top Road, though the other girl is noticeably better thanks to a natural talent and knack for the sport. Watching Narita Top Road dribble is honestly entertaining on its own and it’s one of the reasons Pokke wanted to learn. It just looks so cool to her.
But of course, Pokke being Pokke takes every opportunity to turn it into a chance to impress her girlfriend. She’ll specifically drag her Cafe along to watch, putting a little more effort into every play whenever she knows Cafe is paying attention. Top Road, in turn, invites Ayabe along. Partly because of the little pact she and Pokke made to get their girlfriends to be more social, but also why pass up on a perfect double date opportunity. How cute!
It helps that Ayabe and Cafe make surprisingly good company. The two are perfectly content sitting together on the sidelines, quietly watching their girlfriends play while enjoying each other’s company.
The two girls occasionally get convinced to participate and it turns into a full group activity. The first time it became abundantly clear why Cafe was initially hesitant as her complete lack of soccer ability quickly becomes apparent. She had the running part down but somehow kicking a stationary ball in the intended direction is completely beyond her. Much to her embarrassment, she’ll swing at it and send the ball flying nowhere near where she intended and as for her dribbling skills they definitely needed improvement…
Fortunately, everyone is encouraging, especially Narita Top Road. She’s patient and supportive, happily offering Cafe little pointers without making her feel bad about it. Ayabe is really in no position to judge either having been in a similar boat before, while Pokke suddenly has the perfect opportunity to be the cool soccer girlfriend and coach to hone Cafes skills, which may or may not have been her intention from the beginning.
It also gives everyone a good workout when Cafe inevitably boots the ball far past her intended target and sends all of them sprinting after it.
Somehow, that just makes the whole thing more fun, and Cafe’s skills have slowly improved over time thanks to everyone’s encouragement and help. She’ll definitely stick to racing, but she has gone from barely being able to kick a ball to being able to make some okay shots and passes. Whenever she finally manages to get the ball into the net, Pokke celebrates like Cafe just won a G1, showering her with praise and hugging her while making absolutely no attempt to rein in the PDA in front of the other couple. Cafe would very much like to die from the embarrassment, but beneath all of it, she’s secretly really proud of herself too and Pokkes acknowledgement of her success and her praise makes it worth it in the end.
Afterward they’ll usually clean and freshen up before meeting again to head to a local café or restaurant for lunch or an early dinner which is much more Cafe’s speed. She’s grown rather fond of these little double dates though, and it’s nice for her to spend time with people outside her usual little circle of four. On top of that, she and Ayabe have quickly become good friends to the point that the two of them have already started coming up with plans to take their girlfriends camping and rock climbing one of these days.
