Also while I'm still on my 3:30 in the morning WoF hot take soup: idgaf that it's a children's series, the age discourse surrounding ships like Glorybringer and Umber is extremely fucking stupid. These are dragons. They reach sexual maturity at age 6. The first book alone makes reference to set breeding nights (MudWings) and breeding programs for soldier production (SkyWings). Their societies are violently matriarchal and females in this universe are routinely more aggressive and dominant than the males are. Infanticide/homicide is a common result of this matriarchal rule. It's pretty fucking clear to a kid that even if there's a lot of similarities to humans, these are still very much NOT human characters and should not be modeled in any circumstance.

Also, the math isn't even that big of a problem. A child or teenager reading the books isn't going to do the math and go 'wow this drake was twice this dragoness's age thats a bit uncomfortable' they're going to go 'oh 6 isn't thst big of a big number' and move on. Because these are dragons, not people, and a 6 year age gap in the real world isn't an actual issue, nor is it even remotely comparable to a human instance of young adult woman x man older than her. These are dragons. These are flying lizards that breathe fire and ice and spit face-melting venom from their fangs and murder their mothers and sisters in claw-to-claw combat to be queen. The younger participant in the most hotly debated/detested ship in Wings of Fire just so happens to be a queen who posesses this facemelting venom, and has used it to melt faces in the past. I really don't think that debating whether or not the agegap in her relationship is problematic here.

Why do people act like Tui made it so impossible to figure out the line between child and adult in WOF like. I mean idk with the way the main cast is treated by most of the other characters I always assumed they were like. 18-19 in human years like maybe it's just me but I felt like that's obviously what Tui was going for?? But people either talk about them like they're Babies or like they're Fully Grown Adults and it's weird like the Dragonets are straight up teachers?? One of them is Queen?? Like haven't we established that baby dragons can't do those things?

There's also like. A HUGE difference in how the other characters in the books treat the Dragonets of Prophecy VS the Jade Winglet.

When other characters, adult characters, meet the Dragonets, they're treated like young adults who are travelling around; its only weird because they're travelling as a group of dragons who shouldn't be allies during times of war.

Meanwhile, when the Jade Winglet is travelling around getting into danger, all of the adults around them are extremely concerned and treat them like very obviously children going around getting into danger.
