Jackie Mitchell…a bad ass lady I had never heard of.

From her Wikipedia page: “Seventeen-year-old Jackie Mitchell, brought in to pitch in the first inning after the starting pitcher had given up a double and a single, faced Babe Ruth. After taking a ball, Ruth swung and missed at the next two pitches. Mitchell’s fourth pitch to Ruth was a called third strike. Babe Ruth glared and verbally abused the umpire before being led away by his teammates to sit to wait for another batting turn. The crowd roared for Jackie. Babe Ruth was quoted in a Chattanooga newspaper as having said:

“I don’t know what’s going to happen if they begin to let women in baseball. Of course, they will never make good. Why? Because they are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day.”

Next up was the Iron Horse Lou Gehrig, who swung through the first three pitches to strike out. Jackie Mitchell became famous for striking out two of the greatest baseball players in history.

A few days after Mitchell struck out Ruth and Gehrig, baseball commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis voided her contract and declared women unfit to play baseball as the game was “too strenuous.”[5][10] Mitchell continued to play professionally,barnstorming with the House of David, a men’s team famous for their very long hair and long beards.[11] While travelling with the House of David team, she would sometimes wear a fake beard for publicity.”

Why Sony... WHY!!???

So today when I was complaining about not getting any more sequels to my favorite PSP games, LocoRoco and Patapon, my boyfriend told me that sony is going to make remakes of those two games (plus another rhyme game that I am not familiar with). I WAS BEYOND ECSTATIC. I have waited for this moment since vita came out. Then I looked up the article and it is going to be remade for PS4, NO VITA -_-. My heart just went straight from heaven to hell. so troll, sony, so troll. 

I mean, yeah, I know sony is not supporting vita anymore, so obviously sony doesn’t care. But seriously, I have played every single game in both series and have replayed god knows how many times. They are so fun and cute to play AS PORTABLE GAMES. i played them on my way to classes, to home, between work or simply as a study break. I cannot imagine myself just sitting in front of a TV whole day to stare at small yellow balls bouncing up and down, nor can I imagine myself actually grinding patapon on a console. 

Something just seems lost when these two portable games adapted for the big screen. I cannot pinpoint what it is, but it just feels wrong. I feel unless they are going to make completely new games for the series, otherwise they still feel like they belong to the portable games family. Games that players can play when they don’t have tons of time on hand, but just want to relax for a little bit. 

Not saying that remake on PS4 is a wrong decision, because this is a great chance to introduce these games to more people. I still will buy the remakes just because I love these games so much. If we can get a cross-buy I will hand down buy these two first day launch. But seriously Sony why... these games should have come out for PSV like ages ago before PSV became an orphan. PSV had all the right gears for them, motion sensors, back and front touch screen and the portability. just WHY SONY... WHYYYYYYY

UCLA’s hummingbird whisperer

There’s a hummingbird haven at UCLA. It’s lovingly run by the “hummingbird whisperer”— assistant researcher Melanie Barboni. 

If she doesn’t feed them in a timely manner, the miffed hummingbirds will fly into her office to “yell at me. … They are so demanding, but they know I will give them everything,” she explained with a smile.

A faulty pipeline has leaked 176,000 gallons of crude oil into a creek and the surrounding countryside 2.5 hours away from the Standing Rock protests in North Dakota.

The spill, which went undetected by the pipeline owners until a local stumbled on it, has spread almost 7 km (5.4 miles) from the site of the leak, and at this stage, it’s not clear what caused the pipe to rupture, or how long it’s been leaking.

According to CNN, an estimated 4,200 barrels of crude oil leaked from the Belle Fourche Pipeline in Billings County, 150 miles (241 km) from Cannon Ball in North Dakota, where protesters have been fighting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

For months, opponents of the Dakota Access Pipeline have been expressing fears that it would affect local drinking water, because it was to be built under the Missouri River near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation - the primary water source of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.

Last week, the US Department of the Army announced that it would not approve the crossing of the pipeline under the Missouri River.
