St. Martin / Sint Maarten
Our first night on the cruise ship was spent travelling towards the island of St. Martin. The island is split into a French and Dutch side, and we travelled through both to spend the day on the world renowned Maho Bay Beach, where it is possible to experience extremely low flying planes as they reach the runway meters away from the sand.

During the first two and a half weeks of February, the schools take a half term for Carnival. As the smaller carnivals began to heat up on Guadeloupe, I embarked on a last-minute cruise around the Caribbean to see a few more of the beautiful islands in the West Indies. We were fortunate enough to have seen St. Martin, Dominican Republic, Ila Catalina, Tortola, Antigua and Martinique on our week long adventure and crammed in some fantastic tours of the islands and their main sights.

La vie en Gwada
Following the customary soppy goodbyes (once again!) and the long flight back from Manchester, I was back where I had been longing for while experiencing the cold Welsh winter for two weeks! Under the caribbean sun, with sea salty hair and of course enjoying the coco floups that I had so dearly missed! During one of our first weekends back on the island, we went swimming with the sea turtles on Plage de Malendure, Bouillante. A truly incredible experience being alongside such majestic and chilled animals!
Home sweet home for Christmas
After my first 3 months in Guadeloupe whirled by me, I was heading home on a flight to Manchester before I’d even realised how long I’d been gone! I spent a very short and manic 12 days at home, flying between festive parties with relatives and friends. Christmas would not have truly been Christmas without the company of some of my nearest and dearest and the chill of the cold winter air, after all!
At the top of Le Chameau, Terre-de-Haut, Guadeloupe. A very steep and hot walk to the top, rewarded by amazing all-around views of the Les Saintes islands.
