On Ward 3.3. Something seems significant about Ashley complaining about being set up to fail (in the context of not being able to go all-out in a training exercise) and then, in her villain-monologue-as-breakdown, crowing about how she was created to be a killer with no happy memories. Even though she brings it up to show how terrifying she is and how everyone should fear her and all that, in the context of her earlier complaint it seems like she’s talking about how she’s been set up to fail more generally. How can she be expected to go out and socialize normally when she was made to be an antisocial weapon of mass destruction? Its unfair to ask it of her. Its unfair for her to be in this situation, especially since Rain and Ms. Yamada indicate she doesn’t like what she’s conditioned to be. None of it’s fair. She was set up to fail.

Man, at least Rachel was comfortable with herself. Ashley has the same problem of not being conditioned to function in normal society, but with the apparent desire to do so. And the people close to her are a lot less willing to accept (or at points enable) her more antisocial and aggressive tendencies than the Undersiders were with Bitch.

This was probably the chapter where Ashley clicked for me. Even if I still have no idea how her powers work.
