Mh-Ok, this is probably gonna be embarassing if she finds this blog and reads it, but I gotta record it as I suck at talking to people about my feelings.
Yâsee, itâs late night and Iâm sitting here in my little bunker, watching Jayne sleep.
Yeah thatâs right. My Jayne. I still canât believe it, after I think 10 years or so we met again. Until a few days ago, I was living with the knowledge of never seeing my best childhood friend again. And then, all of a sudden, there she was. I almost thought I forgot her face forever, lost in the haziness of my memories, but those eyes... those were the very same cerulean blue eyes I so often looked into when I was a kid. The same eyes that followed every word I told her about how my young mistress would play dress-up with me. The same eyes that envied my curly brown braids and pretty ribbons I was wearing back then. Damn, those were other times. And there I met those eyes across the bar, talkin with an Aurin. Itâs really her. What are the odds?
Yesterday she told me she didnât have a place to stay really, saving her money for something (is she in debt or something?). She wonât tell me what the deal is, as sheâs afraid Iâd run off and do something regrettable. Ah well damn, she still knows me.
Anyways, I invited her to stay over at my place for the time being, until she recovers and finds a place on her own. And judging by her behavior, sheâll hurry to get out of here and find a place quick, as she wouldnât want to be a bother. I ainât tellinâ her that Iâm not gonna let her go that easy. Not yet. I ainât gonna let her go until Iâm one-hundred-percent sure she can stand on her own two feet without being afraid. Unless she tells me what her problem is, best I can do is make a safe haven for her. And if things get rough, Iâd even lock the hatch and fight any intruders off to keep her safe here.
She promised to make it up to me by cooking for me, and damn do I look forward not relying on military rations anymore. But first, I need a kitchen. This shipwreck I made into a home still needs a lot of work. And a lot of money, too. I took the job as bouncer for the Charyb and do some errands for FCON or XAS to earn some. And maybe I can do some salvaging on the way, too.
But right now, Iâm just sitting here, watchinâ Jayne sleep in the makeshift bed I gave her. Sheâs grown into a pretty young woman. Not a battle-hardened warrior like myself, but isnât that what she always wanted, beinâ the pretty one of us both? Seeing her like that still feels like a daydream. Whenever I look away, I got the fear she just disappears into thin air, or transforms into a stranger person, the image of Jayne evaporizing as I realize that her being my Jayne was only my wishful thinking.
But sheâs really here. And with the Exiles. The stars know what sheâs been through. I know the ordeal that I went through, constantly fighting and battling for survival, each day more of an adventure than I could take, until I grew accustomed to the thrill. Now Iâm getting nervous just sitting around. Which makes me wonder why I am so calm right now. Watching her like this makes me feel... at peace.
Itâs like I was restless, travelling the universe and beyond, landing on the most distant planet of known space, ever searching for something without knowing what, until I found her and feel finally... home. Yeah, itâs like coming home.
I can tell sheâs been through a lot. Sheâs still a housemaid, like she started to be when we were kids. Considering where we are she surely had it rough. She doesnât look like a fighter, her skin being perfectly intact. No scarrings, all soft flesh and satin skin. Making it out of the Dominion and onto Nexus like this would have cost her a lot of money or a lot of connections, and there are only three ways of getting this I know of. First is my way, the fighting, doing hard work and dirty work that no one else would do. As I said she ainât looking like that. So that leaves option 2 or 3:
Option 2 being scheming, spinning webs of information to blackmail people, or even murdering people with an aimed strike or poison to acquire influence and reach your goals.
Option 3 would be the âentertainment businessâ... another kind of âdirty workâ. As a dancer or companion for money.
She sure always was the clever one of us, so sheâd be clever enough for option 2, but could she be ruthless enough? And she sure is pretty enough for option 3, but I hate thinking about it.
Well, whatever she did to get here. I probably wouldnât like it. Knowing sheâs ashamed of it (otherwise she would tell me), I also have a suspicion.
But whatever she went through since the day I left her behind, itâs all my fault. Because I lost control and killed our master. They didnât treat us well after they found out my dad was a âtraitor to the empireâ. Canât imagine how they treated her after finding her best friendsâ a killer AND a traitor.
She must have gone through hell because of me.
And Iâll be damned if I donât make it up to her somehow. Well, no use sulking over it. I had my share of guilt way back when. Because of what I did, mom and Aiden died. I got told it ainât my fault and that I did the right thing, but the people telling me hadnât been there. And I still felt responsible. But feeling sorry wouldnât bring mom back, or Aiden. So I learned to accept it. But now thereâs Jayne. I canât undo the things sheâs been through. But I can help her now, protect her and keep her from harm, no matter what.
And maybe, someday, sheâll forgive me.
And maybe Iâll even forgive myself.
Gha, see, now Iâm getting all melodramatical! Stop it Ashley! Thatâs not like you!
And damn, does she look cute while sleeping. Right now, Iâd love to drop everything and snuggle up beside her and never let her go... But that ainât right. I better see if I can find something for breakfast before she wakes up.
Speaking of waking up, I think Riaâs moving. Ah yeah, the scrawny Aurin girl that drank too much last night, I took her in as well. Gonna stop recording now. Gee, thisâll be real embarassing if someone reads it!
