Can you tell me abotu Felix i want to know his lore
to understand felix's storyline, one must first learn about the peacock miraculous. introduced in the S2 finale as a counterpart to the butterfly, it allows its user to create a sentient being out of any emotion. much like the akuma (the butterfly inserted into an object belonging to its victim), the amok is a feather with the same functionality. beings created with the peacock miraculous are commonly referred to as sentimonsters, and there are (bear with me) several convoluted rules regarding the link between the peacock miraculous, the sentimonster, and the amok object. but the basics are that the amok object can be used by to take complete control of the sentimonster by whoever owns it, from being able to puppet them around to do their bidding to even as far as being able to manipulate their emotional state. they are also extremely fragile, as they can be killed either via breaking the amok object, or by the peacock miraculous holder snapping their fingers to erase them out of thin air. all that being said, being a sentimonster isn't exactly a fun time.
in the S2 finale, gabriel agreste's assistant and dubious lover nathalie sancoeur takes hold of the broken peacock miraculous to save him after being cornered by the heroes' team, and from S3 onward she begins regularly using it, in spite of her declining health. throughout the season, we learn about how the peacock miraculous works, but the most impactful and important episodes are the last three leading up to the season finale: "chat blanc", "felix", and "ladybug".
in "chat blanc", marinette has to time travel to the future to save the timeline from being erased after a convoluted series of events leads adrien to be akumatized as chat noir, having a full-on mental breakdown and wiping out the world's population with a newly all-powerful cataclysm and leaving him all alone for an unknown amount of time. the discovery of this timeline (of which she doesn't know the origin of) leaves marinette severely paranoid, traumatized, and constantly looking out for anything that might trigger a similar world-ending event.
"felix" begins with gabriel monologuing to his late wife's corpse, emilie, much like in "chat blanc", with an exception: the introduction of their wedding bangs, the graham de vanily twin rings - family heirlooms belonging to her family. the episode takes place on the first anniversary of her death, and that's where her twin sister amelie comes to visit with her son, felix. within the first few minutes of their introduction, amelie immediately reveals that the real reason for her arrival was to get the rings that belonged to her side of the family, to which gabriel is anything but receptive. felix, cold, distant, and apathetic, he's nothing like adrien remembers him in his fond childhood memories. we find out that the reason for that may be that much like in adrien's case, felix's father passed away not too long ago and he goes easy on his cousin. throughout the episode, he steals adrien's phone to mock the comforting messages sent by his friends, poses as him to send a mean-spirited reply, leading to a few of them to get akumatized and going after him. he infamously kabedons ladybug and forces himself on her, only to be punched in the face. (i should note this is, above all else, the main thing that made people despise felix from the beginning, and would lead to many more years of people demanding that the show address why marinette would ever forgive him for that. more on felix's other crimes later.) felix manages to briefly manages to strike a deal with hawkmoth in which he promises ladybug and chat noir's miraculous in exchange for another piece of jewerly, assumed to be the rings his mom was after. he gets his ass handed to him by ladybug, apologizes to adrien for the mess he's caused, and at the end of the episode, it's revealed that he did all that to get gabriel to shake his hand goodbye and be able to pickpocket the ring he was wearing to return it to his mom. what a nice boy!
just look at him!
the main plot for "ladybug" isn't relevant to this summary, but it is relevant for the reason that it's the first episode in the show to reveal that there is sucha thing as human sentimonsters, as nathalie creates a perfect replica of ladybug, later mourned by the real ladybug and chat noir as she's snapped out of existence. these three episodes (but moreso the last two) led to the (at the time) crack theory that adrien himself was a sentimonster, or that even felix was one! and their amok objects were each of the rings that gabriel was hesitant to part with.
in S4, felix comes back in "gabriel agreste", wherein gabriel is dead-set on getting his ring back at a private elite party he's hosting. he creates a sentimonster of himself to corner felix and threaten that he could make him disappear with a snap of his fingers if he didn't comply. curious! through some 4D chess moves that are too convoluted for a post as long as this one, felix discovers gabriel's identity and, for now, remains content with his efforts, and the information that his uncle has ownership of both the butterfly and peacock miraculous. interesting part of this episode is that at the very beginning of it, felix is shown watching a ladyblog video in which alya explains that a miraculous can be used for both good and evil, foreshadowing his role as an later anti-hero.
he returns in the season finale, "risk" and "strike back", as he poses as adrien once again and ends up being recruited by ladybug due to complete coincidence to use the dog miraculous. the way it works is simple - touch an object with the ball, and say "fetch!" for it to appear in your hands. during a team mission, felix stares into the distance as he watches ladybug & co. teleport some indestructible sentimonsters into space to be melted away by the sun. the sight greatly saddens him, as he sheds a tear and whispers "i'm sorry" before heading over to the agreste mansion. he uses fetch to steal ladybug's yoyo, (containing the miraculous she had), and trading them, plus the ring he stole from gabriel, for the peacock miraculous. ladybug hunts him down in london to confront him, but his mom claims that he's been missing ever since he came to paris to visit adrien. this is revealed to be bullshit by the end of the episode, as she was just protecting him from consequences. LOL.
with all the hints provided, it's no surprise that felix returns in S5E18 "emotion", titled after the power of the peacock miraculous. he yet again poses as adrien to infiltrate a private ball hosted by gabriel, as his mom wasn't invited this time around. there, he discovers that kagami is also a sentimonster and that her amok object is her ring, and after marinette's heartfelt declaration of love to her boyfriend, "adrien", he decides to spare them once his plan comes into action - the total extermination of humanity, starting with the elites, paralleling chat blanc in its own way and realizing marinette's worst fear. and he uses a sentimonster called red moon, whose power allows him to snap his fingers to erase anyone hit by its light. he sings an iconic jazz number as he goes around, happily snapping away.
(the english version is rough. gomen.)
his confrontation with ladybug results in this incredible monologue below, revealing his true intentions all along and his reasoning for all that he's done up to this moment: felix is an extremist on a noble mission to abolish authority and create a world where people like him can belong; worth noting that up to this point they still don't specify what it means to be "like him", with the sentimonster storyline become an open-ended metaphor for various things that are all vaguely hinted at but never made fully clear. i think that's part of what's compelling about his character, because i've always related to his feeling of inadequacy and his role as a troubled kid who just wants life to be easier for him, but more on that later.
his confrontation with ladybug ends with him supposedly winning, as she fails to summon a lucky charm and trusting felix himself to figure out the error of his ways. after snapping her out of existence, kagami attacks him, calling him a monster and claiming that he made everyone she loved disappear. that's when he snaps his fingers to make adrien appear, as he previously snapped him to be able to take his place. he rambles on about having created a better world for his favorite cousin, a world where he's free - where all three of them are free! but leaves them completely oblivious as to what that could possibly mean. despite sparing marinette, he can't make her show up for some weird reason (...!) and so adrigami demand him to bring everyone back as he realizes he's hurt the people he loved most. marinette comes back and hugs them, leaving felix to be excluded once again. he ends up having to snap red moon out of existence, his "sister" as he lovingly calls her, and breaks down completely.
"pretension" is the following episode, and it's all about (or mostly about) kagami. as shown in previous episodes of the show, she's a lonely and sheltered girl forced to repress her emotion by her mother, who finds them to be a weakness and a hindrance to archieving her goals. she's akumatized a total of three times throughout the show, each time revealing more depth to her character and the range of emotions she's capable of, as much as she tries to keep her ice queen persona intact. it turns out felix has been stalking kagami since last time, and crashes the car she's in after overhearing a discussion between her and her mother, taking her away to talk privately. she promptly tries to beat him with a chair as she's stopped by a fearful felix, begging her to at least listen. as it turns out, he developed feelings for her as a result of their shared traits, including the fact that they're both sentimonsters (still never said out loud but very obviously implied). this leads to one of the funniest and most iconic interactions in the show:
it's his first day at yandere school, please be patient!
kagami's mom gets akumatized and hunts down feix, calling him a monster all throughout, while he keeps finding places to hide and kagami shoves him away until her mom tries to attack her, and starts seeing things his way. felix claims his father was about a million times worse, and things start to make more sense. he ends up taking her to the sewers, where the obvious becomes even more obvious:
their conversation comes to an abrupt end as ladybug and chat noir come to kagami's rescue, but they're stopped as the latter defends felix, claiming he's just like her, a misunderstood kid that doesn't know how to express himself. kagami's mom also catches up to them, leading felix to take the opportunity to escape. after getting de-akumatized, kagami's mom demands she return the ring to her after she stands up for her and claim that emotions aren't a weakness. she obliges, but that doesn't seem to matter as felix reveals that he switched her ring with a copy, as he tells her that her life shouldn't be dictated by the rules of her ancestors, and that she should be able to make her own choices. they hold hands and watch a movie together. #Cutes
the last episode of felix's original arc is "representation", wherein he and kagami put on this... weird abstract play to illustrate his backstory. felix comes from a british royal family that desperately sought out a heir, but as his mom and adrien's momwere born, that would've had to wait. you know the story: one of them is perfectly obedient while the other is a wild child that wants to see the world. emilie travels the world and meets gabriel, ends up eloping with him and the two confirm their marital state using the graham de vanily twin rings, passed down to her as she was the oldest twin. amelie, as the sole heiress, ends up getting married off to a american billionaire named colt fathom. it turns out that both sisters are infertile, but once gabriel and emilie find the peacock, she's able to get pregnant, much to colt's anger, as he feels entitled to a heir. gabriel comes up with the idea to let him borrow the peacock miraculous in exchange for part of his riches, and he complies, much to his hesitance in using magic. and so, felix is born. as the peacock (at the current time) is broken, emilie eventually falls ill and so does colt. he believes this is the price he's paying for using magic and begins to take it out on felix, puppeting him around to serve him and completely depriving him of social interaction, much to felix's fear and confusion, as he doesn't know why his body seems to move on his own, and most of all, why his father hates him so much. on one fateful day, colt ends up cracking the ring as he punches furniture in a fit of anger, and felix faints, leading him to realize that his life is bound by it; this specific instance is often interpreted by many (including me) as being the closest the show could get to portraying physical abuse without violating regulations, and it seems to track given the extent of how extreme felix's history of abuse already is. after realizing his true nature as a sentimonster, we're back in present time - where he finds out he's not alone in that (as gabriel didn't want to let go of the graham de vanily family heirlooms), and makes frantic attempts to get ahold of the peacock miraculous as a result, to ensure that he and other sentimonsters remain safe. marinette ends up forgiving him once she becomes privy to his tragic backstory, and he's accepted as a member of the miraculous team.
my personal story with felix began as a silly crush mixed with intrigue and curiosity regarding his vague nature, and it slowly deteriorated into something much, much worse. LOL. among the millions of pretty boys with tragic backstory, he will always be #1 to me no matter what. his supposed sense of selflessness is incredibly dissonant with what is actually shown of him - the need to get whatever he wants no matter what he does to get there, the way he sees his perspective as absolute and refuses to accept any other, clouded by years of abuse. i love how he hates authority figures and even the upper class as a whole, the very things he was manufactured to follow and blend in with, i love his immature and childish worldview, shaped by the childhood he was robbed of and trying to make up for, i love how in spite of all the crazy schemes he's created, the show ends on the thesis thst he's just a really messed up kid lashing out at the world. i've always loved pratically everything about him and i don't think there's a part of his arc i would change at all. love my british-american bishounen 4ever
