Sleepless Stomach Aches

My room is silent. Still enough that I can hear nothing but the movement of my covers as I toss around and the clicking of my thumbs on my phone screen. The room is lit up by the light of my street, shining through my curtains, despite them trying to block the light out. The life of a teenager is supposed to be filled with late nights spent with friends, watching movies till God knows when, feeling free to do what ever one pleases until the day breaks.

I don’t have the same curtesy.

You see, I have these stomach aches. These pains in my stomach that last throughout the night, that keep me awake, tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. Stomach aches that cause my head to spin, thinking of billions of bizarre scenarios to play through my brain which is wired on some sort of automatic caffeine. Stomach aches that make my legs shake and my heart rate increase to the point where I feel concerned. These stomach aches don’t allow me to sleep, as every time I feel remotely tired, my stomach aches tell me, don’t go to sleep, you may not wake up.

They feed my insecurities more and more until I should feel full but in reality I feel even hungrier than before. The pain of these stomach aches is difficult because it seems to change every night. Making it impossible to fix because the symptoms are always different.

These are the stomach aches that make me question what the point is. What my purpose is.

These are the stomach aches that make me cry until I can’t breathe.

These are the stomach aches that make me feel defeated and bring me down on my knees.

These are the pains I will never be able to understand.

I am so tired.

But you know, it’s just a stomach ache....right?
