Threat of Violence

Government is a necessary evil, brought into being to serve the people, but ultimately becomes separate to the people. People who are brought into power, become addicted to it. There will always be evil men whose cause is to turn citizens into sheep with promises of security if only they give up their personal freedoms. At that point the government is no longer the ally meant to help you, but your master whom took away the very freedoms they promised to maintain!

How are we as citizens supposed to defend ourselves from an overreaching government controlled by people no longer interested in serving its people? Surely not by talking, for at the fall of our freedoms that would be the first to go. Making citizens afraid to speak out for fear of humiliation and retribution has always been a subtle goal of every creeping master. No, the only method proven to keep evil men and conquerors at bay is the threat of violence from good men willing to sacrifice themselves for a better world. A threat of violence from a well-armed people is what keeps those we put into power afraid to abuse that power.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America states, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. This by far, is the most vital and most threatened right essential to the continuation of our free country. Wicked men use unfortunate events like mass shootings as fuel for their political agendas to further restrict our rights and to turn us into cattle, all for the sake of a false sense of security. It is the well-armed citizen that keeps his family safe, and his government afraid. That was the kind of citizen that created our country, and if that kind of citizen is removed, then we are surely doomed to repeat our past.

What handgun are you planning on using for cc?

Either a Smith & Wesson Shield or a Springfield XDM 45. Haven’t really decided on which yet. I’ve also been *maybe* looking at getting a smaller Glock. Budget is $600-ish.

I haven't shot the XDM but the shield is really nice. The glock 43 is good too but kicks like a damn mule. I carry a Taurus pt111 millennium g2, which is built like a glock, but is more top heavy to reduce recoil. Small enough to fit in your pocket, holds 12 rounds, adjustable sights, feeds nicely, and has a decent trigger. Cheap too, you can get them for around $250-300. Use the extra money to buy quality rounds and extra magazines haha

Unfortunately I live in one of those neighborhoods- there’s been four armed robberies around my house in the past week. I’m nervous about negligent discharge too, but I’d be more nervous about taking that extra time to actually arm the weapon.

Honestly it's personal preference at that point then. I'm so used to racking the slide when I first pull it that it's what I almost always go with. It only takes me a tenth of a second slower to rack it, so it's not that big of a deal. I'd say just pick something and train with it until it's second nature, whether it's racking the slide or hitting the safety. Just remember that not all pistols have safety's, so if you get more down the road you might find yourself in the situation where you tried to hit the safety but instead you needed to rack the slide.

Off to a great start.

Right off the bat, Jim suggests that the people in favor of gun control shouldn’t get too openly excited because the rest of the crowd has guns.  Ah, the old crazy gun owner narrative.  Suggesting that people with guns are short fused and will pull out their big scary death machines and shoot you the moment you disagree with them.

Facts, however, disagree.

In my state of Texas, the numbers have shown that people who carry guns actually contribute to less than 1% (roughly 0.7% to be more exact) than the states overall crime.  Not just gun crime, ALL crime.

Other states with legal concealed carry have reflected this as well.

0:30 - I support the 2nd Amendment, BUT…

The old played out “I support the 2nd Amendment, BUT…” argument.  It’s like saying, “I’m not racist or anything, BUT [insert extremely racist tirade here].  Anytime I hear someone say something along the lines of “I support your right to own guns, BUT…” I’m almost always certain that that person actually does not support my right to own guns at all.  It’s a cop out.

Sure, if you’re suicidal.

Gun bans result in lower gun suicide rates, but a compensatory increase in suicide from other accessible and lethal means of suicide (hanging,    leaping, auto exhaust, etc.). The net result of gun bans, however, has shown reduction in total suicide rates.  People who are intent in killing themselves find the means to do so. Are other means of suicide so much more politically correct that we should focus on measures that decrease gun suicide, but do nothing to reduce total suicide deaths?  Seems pretty stupid.

I find it cute that Jim says no one needs a gun to defend themselves and then presents a real world example of why someone would need a gun to defend themselves.

He then says he wasn’t wearing his holster at the time and suggests that you would be crazy to have a gun ready while at home.

It’s called being vigilante, Jim.  It is actually very common for most concealed carriers to wear a holster even at home and all the way up until the moment they go to bed.  Why?  Because shit happens, Jim.  But you know that now.

Not everyone has children.  Only my wife and I live in my house.  We don’t have children.  Our dogs don’t know how to use guns.  We both know how to check a gun to see if it’s loaded and we both know that our handguns are loaded at all times.  Therefore, it is possible to have a gun readily available and still be responsible.

When we have friends with children over, we unload our handguns, depress the trigger to un-cock, and then keep a loaded magazine in the gun with an empty chamber.  We then put our guns in high up places that children cannot get to.  A child does not have the strength to rack the slide of a handgun.  Without racking the slide, a round cannot be chambered and the trigger cannot be reset.  Meaning, there is absolutely no way the gun can be fired.  Once again, another example of having a readily available firearm while still doing so responsibly.

But maybe you prefer a safe.  Makes your gun useless, right.

Wrong.

There are many handgun safes that can be opened quickly with the swipe of a fingerprint.  They keep children away from your gun, can be stored right by your bed, and offer quick access to your gun in a home defense scenario.  Many even have mounts so you can lock them to your bed or floor so that they cannot be stolen.
