Welcome to Saudi Arabia's national final for @asiavisionblog! We have seven songs competing for the chance to represent Saudi Arabia this year.

As the name implies, most are on the indie/obscure side, with most having less than 10,000 views on youtube (and one with only 29 views as of right now). They are:

Asiavision 2021 - Interest check form results

A total of nine people answered the poll, adding previous edition’s winner this would make the number of participants 10 - the smallest edition of Asiavision by far. In the event that we do get less than 11 participants, the voting system will have to be altered (likely only jury voting for your top 7), but more about that if it actually happens.

Question 1: Are you planning on participating in Asiavision 2021?

This question was clearly superfluous, as everyone who answered seems fairly set on participating.

Question 2: Which countries are you interested in?

The answers for this question were very varied, with no country being picked by more than four people (yay!). Countries selected, by frequency, were:

3. Egypt, Iran, Myanmar, New Zealand, Turkey, Vietnam (2)

9. Bangladesh, China (People’s Republic of), Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan (Republic of China), Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu (1)

Never selected: Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kiribati, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, North Korea (People’s Democratic Republic of Korea), Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Qatar, Samoa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.

Overall we see a decrease in the interest in formerly popular Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan and Mongolia, and a slight interest in Arab countries. Notable is that Australia - one of the most sought-after countries in previous editions - was not chosen by anyone at all. Armenia and Azerbaijan are two other countries with a high participation frequency that no one expressed an interest in.

This follows past trends of Japan usually being one of the first countries claimed.

6 say they prefer Discord and 3 have no preference. This means that most behind the scenes updates (besides official forms and posts, which will still be available on both sites) will only be available on Discord.

asiavision 2021 will be hosted in jakarta, and the slogan will be “broaden your horizons”, suggesting participants to open up their minds and senses to new experiences and perspectives, also referring to the vastness of asia. vector lines split the central design into four, showing ocean waves as well as an outline map of indonesia.

the theme art shows the prambanan temple, an unesco world heritage site; the 8th century hindu temple is located located on java, and was chosen to be displayed on the theme art due to the fact that the previous edition’s winning entry “lathi” by weird genius and sara fajira was partially sung in the javanese language.

If you plan on participating in Asiavision 2021, it would be helpful for me (the contest runner) in knowing how many are interested in participating this edition, and possibly to other contestants too, if you could fill out this form, on which countries you’d be interested in claiming, and if you’ll be more active on Tumblr or Discord. Asiavision 2020: The Winner

Let’s watch the winner’s encore performance! Congratulations to Indonesia’s Weird Genius & Sara Fajira with “Lathi”. The song’s title means “tongue” or “words” and the chorus is in the Javanese language.

More details on how the next edition will work will be revealed on Discord shortly. A breakdown of the televotes will also be published on Discord.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The most accurate prediction was once again made by Janek, who predicted the correct jury winner, 8/10 of the jury’s top 10, 7/10 of the televote top 10 and 8/10 of the overall top 10. (Individual breakdowns can be posted on Discord if requested). They also predicted the means of how the winner would win, leading to them beating Matthew by one point.
