Frankie’s de-yellowing hair experiment.

Treated with mix of laundry detergent + purple shampoo VS left untouched

My little sister’s old G1 Frankie dolls. The left one has been soaked in a laundry detergent and purple shampoo mixed into very hot water. The right one is left completely untouched.

I did three washes.

One with only laundry detergent cus I can’t use goo gone and needed the glue out. The other two washes were around 2 parts purple shampoo and 1 part laundry detergent.

The difference in color is subtle, especially under yellow lighting like mine, but I think it’s still noticeable.

I didn’t use the brand oxiclean for the washes, just generic cheap laundry detergent. As long as it has sodium percarbonate, non-oxiclean local detergents should be fine.

Even with my crappy lighting, right side Frankie can be seen with a warmer hair color than left side Frankie.

Maybe with more washes, leftie’s hair could be de-yellowed even more? But I’m kinda scared of causing heat damage cus these dolls were in pretty rough shape.

I’m also happy to see that the black portions of Frankie’s hair remain the same. I thought the detergent might bleach the black strands and turn them gray or smth.
