I get very very frustrated with every farming sim being compared to stardew valley instead of being judged on how well it accomplishes what it's trying to do.

most of the farming sim critique i see basically boils down to, "this game isn't sdv so i don't like it..." and as much as I love stardew I do not want to see a bunch of games that basically have the same mechanics but a different skin plastered on. for the sake of keeping the diversity in this genre of game, stop bringing sdv into the conversation

LOVE reading reviews of Coral Island from a person that has never heard of Harvest Moon and think every farming sim is a ripoff of Stardew Valley. And by love, I lowkey wish they get hit by a chair. I cannot afford the tolls on the highroad, and I do not have the patience for the lucky 10,000. If it's just a tiny person on the internet not claiming to be the pinnacle of knowledge then hell yeah! Play these games! But an actual person reveiwing something should at least do the bare fucking minimum when researching a genre. "It isn't that much more original than Stardew Valley" as if Stardew Valley was not inspired by literal decades of games, as if Farming Sims are not an actual genre. It's like someone reading one (1) vampire book and going "Yeah, this book is good. But it's not that original. I mean vampires drinking blood and having super strength? It's clearly a ripoff of Twilight." while completely ignoring or remaining wilfully ignorant that Dracula even exists.

Dungeon Meshi is about a quirked up white boy on a quest to save his sister and perhaps indulge his special interest along the way. He's a man of pure heart who has done nothing but help anyone he's met. Then part way through the story you start seeing other pov characters and it turns out every single person who has met him outside his party has read his awkward social skills and love for grilling as a sign of something deeply evil and has vowed to kill him on sight.
