Llyndun is a sprawling 19th century metropolis on the river, once and still valuable for its geographical proximity to a major inland waterway with access to the sea for trade. In fact, the Tame runs right through the heart of the city! Now an industrial and political powerhouse, they lead the world by storm in this new modern age of innovation, invention, science, other intellectual studies, and culture. To the world, they’re the spitting image of class and prestige, but to those who know its streets well, it is a miserable, grimy place where the rich play while the poor are left to scramble for the pieces.In a world run by warped religion, social dynamics, law, and questionable ‘science’, full of double standards and contradictions, it can prove challenging to exist in a society where you’re told to both deny and embrace your nature simultaneously.

Well, nice to hear things are staying busy. If I can ask another question. This is for both you and your assistant. What is one thing you dislike most about Llyndun? I especially heard at night is a nesting ground for trouble.

"No more trouble than one would expect for such a lively city..." His flat, disinterested tone shifts as a lopsided, sharp smirk creeps onto his face.

"You'll never be starved for a story so long as there are streets in Llyndun. The shadows here are remarkably fertile."

"The gossip... the rumors spread like a blaze to the wind. Always waiting for someone to slip up, or for a single misstep to be displayed to the whole world. It's... suffocating, sometimes."

To start off simple, how does an average day in your life usually go?

"I wake, I work, I bleed the day dry, and I sleep. A perfectly cyclical monotony. I am a terribly busy man, and the clock yields far too few hours for me to spend them cataloging the minutes for an anonymous spectator. Good day, sir."

"Oh, my, it would seem the Doctor is not in the best of moods. It has been a long day. In truth his day is quite interesting as opposed to the average 'work grind' described here! You see-"

A question for the mun: Are there ratfolk in animalia, and if there are, how are they typically viewed by the rest of society?

There is no shortage of Rodentia in the Northern Isles and Lynndun in particular is practically overrun with them! As far as how they're perceived, it's truly a complex combination on where in the world you are, the individual species cultures within that general society and what species of rodent we're talking.

The Northern Isles and nearby nations have a history with bubonic plague, defaulting to blaming rats in the slums for being 'unclean'. In reality, their population grows faster than the state can monitor or regulate and they don't particularly like that...that in combination with natural rivalries, food chain dynamics, and resource competition still remain present in a sense, and many typically pair the poor living conditions they're forced into along with their history throughout the centuries to mark them as promiscuous, conniving, thieving, filthy things. Behind closed doors they're a regular go to for experimentation, and illegal predation. Really, most are just trying to get by but this is relative to their numbers...meaning enough stereotypes are roaming around to make a scene in the public eye...

Fancy rats and certain mice or squirrels are somewhat above rats if not in high society, retaining a certain 'pretty privilege' reserved for domestic or 'docile' breeds of carnivores animals generally looked down upon based on appearances and mannerism/temperament.

Jack Fletcher

Jack is the ever-loyal assistant of Dr. Howard, always on his toes and ready to serve. He’s a soft-spoken soul with a sharp mind and sharp intuition, quick to notice patterns and details others may take longer to see, or dismiss altogether. Much like Harold, he faces the stigma that comes with being a predator with dark/camouflaged fur, while maintaining a certain ‘pretty privilege’ that comes with being a ‘docile’ or domestic breed, however, he faces an additional challenge in that he is a black cat, which due to a questionable history of cats and corvids engaging in witchcraft, in addition to the association with black to evil and death, leads to a common belief that black cats are bad luck. Jack is wildly superstitious, to the point of being afraid of his own reflection, looking for omens, bearing talismans, performing rituals, and wearing his lucky green amongst other habits..all while the lingering paranoia that HE may be engaging in witchcraft at the same time looms over his head. Harold dismisses him as an intelligent, albeit paranoid mind, but Jack knows that what he's seeing is real.

Dr. Harold James Howard

Howard is a Victorian physician/surgeon and news publisher who runs in high circles, presenting himself as a distinguished gentleman and a scholar. He's a proud, smug, and stubborn man with a poet's tongue and a strong wit. He views the world through an analytical lens, with a warped and sometimes misguided perception, ready to judge or ‘correct’ anything deemed ‘unfit’, ‘unruly’, or simply ‘inefficient’. Not even God’s carefully crafted nature is exempt from his scrutiny. But he’s not just a man of words and debate- no, he is a man of action! Actions brought forth by deep-rooted insecurities and a nature most unsavory…hidden just behind the tailored mask of high society. He’s the product of an illegitimate marriage when his mother -the daughter of a wealthy Earl- fled the husband arranged for her to be with a common man. Harold’s ongoing battle for acceptance from his elite kin, and peers against the commoner stain on his physical appearance have made him, in some ways, cold and bitter behind his mild-mannered social demeanor. But don’t fall for the victim game. There’s an animal under that suit.  !!!SENSITIVITY WARNING!!! Dr. Howard has many views and behaviors that would be considered politically incorrect in our time, and even morally corrupt in ANY time. He is very vocal and prone to debate, so if you can not handle that in a fictional character, avoid sensitive topics or simply choose another character to interact with.
