i just wanna make it clear at this time that this blog is super dead and will stay that way for the forseeable future
but hey if you want bmc content from me, and you havent already followed my main... @quarktrinity <- follow my main for bmc content and shit
this blog, along with ask-bmcofficeau, is definitely not something i regret making/doing; i think i improved a lot as an artist as a direct result of these blogs, and i now know how to write/plan a decent story arc (hint hint its not how i did it on these blogs, the writing on here kind of sucks and im so sorry, i learned from my mistakes). to any aspiring artists/writers out there that indulge in fandom a lot, i would actually recommend making an askblog. i learned a lot of important lessons in the process of modding these, including:
people will not always love everything about your work, including your art and writing. in fact, many people will get upset simply for initiating a ship that theyre not used to. dont bend to their criticisms, your work will be worse if you shape it to what people want, instead of what YOU want, so just make what makes you happy, and trust that your audience will learn why you like it so much.
drawing backgrounds SUCKS ASS, but its a really important skill to learn as an artist. try it out! itll get easier the more you do it
no matter how much you might criticize your own work, there will always be several people who love it (the thought that some of my followers had my blogs notifications on made me weirdly happy???)
youre allowed to take breaks, however long you need. burnout is a real thing and you have no obligation to giving people content theyre not paying for. once again, if you only create content for what people want, it will be worse than if you make it because it makes you happy.
make it as sketchy as you need; no ones expecting daily mona lisas
your art and your writing WILL improve. ive been drawing bmc for like two years now, and my art has definitely come a long way. to serve as inspiration, heres some samples of jeremy drawings throughout the years
participating in a fandom doesnt have to be a toxic experience. if you create an environment formed completely out of love and passion for what you like, and if you dont hesitate to try something you want to do, even if its frightening, youll grow as an artist, writer, and person. projects are worth it. people are worth it. you are worth it.
love what you do, and development will naturally follow. these askblogs may be over, but i can make bigger things because i did them.
if you wanna see what im doing now, you can go follow my main, or check out @ask-voices-all-around, a bmc askblog run by my friend ryan that im drawing for.
see you all on the flipside
