You said something about it being your third Anniversary soon in the 10 fact thing from your roswell blog?? Will you maybe hold an event or sth for that like the rain dinner from long ago?????!!!!

I’ve been thinking about organizing another event for a while now, but I haven’t worked out what I want logistically yet.

When I hosted Rain Dinners, it was based on individual tumblr posts with a separate chatroom for the mods to organize. There was also an rp chatroom, but personally I didn’t spend much time there.

Since then, the community events have more or less moved over to discord. It’s a great platform, but I’m more interested in drawn rp than written rp, especially if there’s a large group of people involved. Of course, it’s perfectly possible to use discord just as an organizing tool for tumblr posts, but I haven’t seen too much of that.

I think the biggest difference is that Rain Dinners generated a lot of public spectacle, where people from outside the ask/rp community could follow along with what was happening. Modern discord events are more insular, and take place just between people in oprp. 

If I were to organize a similar event now, I think I would keep a similar format to Rain Dinners, but create a tumblr blog for the event. Since I used a tag instead of a blog last time, it was hard to follow everything that was happening unless you either tracked the tag, or followed all the blogs involved. Another thing I’d do differently would be to have additional moderaters. I wore myself out last time trying to run the event full time for the five days that it ran. 

Of course, the success of the event would depend on community interest. If you guys like the idea of having another drawn event, let me know and I’ll take it into consideration. In addition to another group event, I’ve also privately toyed with the idea of having a guided event, like a murder mystery or an AU where we can explore and stumble into clues left by the moderators, or something like that. It wouldn’t have the off-the-wall chaos that Rain Dinners did, but who knows, it might be fun.
