I see a lot of posts claiming Charles’ behavior towards Raven to be controlling and misogynistic. I’d like to point out that:

they grew up in the 40s-50s and his treatment of her, for the values of that time, is accepting, inclusive, and open-minded (some men would not have allowed her to be part of the team at all, and the same goes for finding and recruiting Angel).

he sees her as his little sister, which places him in the roll of an older brother and with his personality (a dependency on being depended upon) he couldn’t have not been protective.

he also was the one who adopted her into the Xavier household, not his parents, and (although I have a headcanon that he eventually gave the household fabricated memories of Raven) his comment about having raised her might not have been so far off from the truth.

Raven did a bit of a 180° on him, first hating her Mutation, complaining about it, and then telling him off for being enthusiastic about a remedy being found.

in the First Class time period especially, there was a lot of violence towards minorities, particularly blacks - insisting Raven keep her Mutation hidden was likely a matter of her safety.

the only time he showed any personal discomfort with her blue form was when his sister turned up naked in the middle of the kitchen - clothes were not an unreasonable request.

Never mind the Sirs and their beautiful bond.
