Ahem. I’m Professor-in-training Cedar! You can read more about me in the About tab, but I’m currently in another world, one filled with a civillization of Pokemon! I’m also a Sneasel right now, my best guess is that it’s a product of this world.

Interwoven Bags

During our time away from this website, we received a pair of special bags known as interwoven bags!

These special bags share their interior, so something put in one of them can be taken out of either!

They're extremely fascinating, and I want to take mine apart to figure out how it works, but Thievul says that that won't accomplish anything. Confound it!

I'll have to do more research into them in my spare time.

Meadow Runoff, 2F

Back once more! The second floor of Meadow Runoff has now been surveyed!

Moving up to the second floor was a bizarre experience. As we walked up the stairs, it was like the ground shifted up with us! I don’t have the supplies to conduct full research on this phenomenon quite yet, but I look forward to doing so soon!

This floor was more difficult than the last one. We encountered some stronger Pokemon, and the fairy types gave Thievul a bit of trouble, though we pulled through.

In total, on this floor, we encountered:

2 Skiploom

1 Sentret

1 Flabebe

2 Cottonee

1 Gossifleur

We found more supplies on this floor, too! Another “wonder orb”, more strange seeds, a couple berries, and even a “wand”! Thievul said that wands are sticks imbued with dungeon power. I am immensely intrigued by that, and will have to ask more about these “wands” later.

I will be heading up the next staircase once Thievul finishes their section.

The fairy types did admittedly give me some trouble, but do not worry, I am fine. An oran berry is all it took to heal me up. Thank goodness we haven’t encountered any monster houses.

annnnd we have our first property damage of the break season. Rum got so upset to hear Control over the phone and not Here With Him Right Now that he wailed out the most pitiful howl and blew the lightbulb in the hotel room's lamp. a record, usually those last a few days

thankfully the staff didnt care at all, he's endeared himself to them.

Where I come from, we call variant Pokemon by their types, such as 'Ice Vulpix' or 'Poison Slowking'. Why do humans use location names instead?"

"Azu, az zuma. mari ri."

Ah... Hmm. That's a very good question.

Well, from what I know, it's due to Pokemon like Slowpoke. We can't call Galarian Slowpoke 'Psychic Slowpoke' because, well, normal Slowpoke are ALSO Psychic type! It's just that Galarian Slowpoke lost their Water typing.

"Coa! Coal coal!"

Oh? Well, perfect timing, another great example.

Red-Striped Basculin and Blue-Striped Basculin hatched from the eggs!

We can't exactly call these two by their typing. They're the same Pokemon, but they behave differently. So we call them 'Red-Stripe' and 'Blue-stripe'. There's also the White-Stripe from Hisui, which I have available to study compared to these two.

I think, mostly, us humans use where they live instead of their typing so that it's easier to identify where they originated, and it helps in our studies on how these Pokemon change their typing like this.

I see...I suppose that makes sense, and does account for Slowpoke. Where I come from, we call the Slowpoke variants “pink-tailed” and “yellow-tailed”.

Meadow Runoff, 1F

We’re back! We have surveyed the first floor of Meadow Runoff, and we’re here to share our findings!

First off, about my using of the term “first floor”: Thievul told me that mystery dungeons are divided up into “floors”. Apparently it’s quite literal, as I’m stopping by a staircase to write this! According to Thievul, nobody truly knows why mystery dungeons are like this. I hope that is something I can figure out during my research in this world!

As we entered the meadow, I felt a brief wave of nasuea, before realizing that my surroundings had completely changed. There were walls of dirt and flowers all around, and corridors between the walls leading off. The whole mystery dungeon seems to be composed of “rooms” and “corridors”, where rooms are large open areas, and corridors are the pathways between those areas. I will be using these terms from now on to describe mystery dungeons. In total, there were seven rooms on this floor.

We encountered a fair few Pokemon here, too! Though unlike the Pokemon outside this mystery dungeon, they were more like wild Pokemon back in my world, even going so far as to attack us on sight! I couldn’t understand them, either, and neither could Thievul it seems.

In total, on this floor, we encountered:

1 Gossifleur

We also found several more supplies on this floor: More “Wonder Orbs”, according to Thievul, similar to my Connection Orb, but with different functions. We also found several odd seeds not seen in my world. Thievul said they know what they are, though I’ll have to ask them about them later.

I will be heading up the staircase once Thievul finishes their section.

Greetings, Thievul here. A few clarifications to Cedar’s section:

The “wild Pokemon” are known as dungeon Pokemon, and they often attack other Pokemon on sight. There are many theories as to why they do so, which I will state as we progress through Meadow Runoff.

Cedar attempted to talk to the first one we met, a Sentret, and it Tackled him after he said his hellos. He is very strange. I look forward to learning more about him.

One question I have is that Cedar does not know what mystery dungeons are. Does that mean they do not exist in the human world? Why is that? I hope to find the answer to that question through my research.

Meadow Runoff Preparation

It’s long overdue, but I am finally conducting an expedition into a “mystery dungeon”! I am going to detail every aspect of it I can. I am excited to share my results with all of you!

...You know, I've seen stranger things than a Thievul able to use a computer.

Aha, anyways. Hello there! I suppose being from another world shouldn't be so surprising- what, with those Ultra Beasts that brought up a ton of fanfare in Alola a while back. Though I can't say I've met a Pokemon who is also a professor! Intriguing.

That's a pretty broad question! What kind of technologies are you meaning? We have everything from devices Pokemon can use to communicate, to prosthetics, to transportation built specifically with Pokemon in mind. Not to mention technology to assist with battling, to connect Pokemon's power to their trainer, technology specifically designed to help Pokemon with certain jobs that require a boost. Really, you name it, we've got it as far as I know.

Did you have something specific in mind? If you're looking for a specific kind of technology, I'd be happy to rattle on about what we have available :)

I suppose what I’m wondering is how you accomodate for different Pokemon in your world? I know humans care a lot for Pokemon, and I am curious what kinds of things your kind have designed for us.

I see! Well, we accommodate for different Pokemon in every way that we can.

To avoid going on a novel-length ramble, I'll keep this to the facility I work at, Shiverwood. To begin with, we have different areas for different Pokemon depending on both species and tolerance level. Our site is limited to forest, mountain, cave, and lake habitats, so any, say, ocean Pokemon or desert Pokemon get transferred to a more suitable site. Then there's the tolerance levels- Pokemon that don't mind some interaction with both people and Pokemon can wander freely, while Pokemon that are more aggressive and who cannot tolerate these interactions are kept away from the general population. Their needs are still met, of course, but we limit their interactions to what is necessary to both avoid incident, and respect their boundaries while we work with them.

In terms of architecture, everything from doorways to ceilings were designed with large Pokemon and flying Pokemon in mind. There are several accessible elevators, as well as ramps, available for Pokemon who cannot use stairs. Everything here was designed with Pokemon accessibility in mind, so that they can move freely on their own, or with trainers. But, there are also failsafes in the event of a rampaging Pokemon either breaking out of a secure area, or breaking in coming from the wild. This hasn't happened more than a few times, thankfully.

We have designated medical services for Pokemon with Pokemon care experts, as well as behavioural experts for mental health needs. We regularly implement sensitivity training that all staff must complete- this improves any biases we might have, as well as being educational for anything we might not know about a specific type or species. We most often implement these on more stereotypically aggressive species- our latest was on Gyarados, as an example. It's important, in our field, to unlearn our biases and prejudices and approach everything with as open a mind as possible.

We also have Pokemon workers where possible. We have several employed Pokemon in our security detail, as well as emotional support Pokemon working with our behaviouralists, and nurse Pokemon working with medical staff. We often employ Corviknight taxis for quick and easy transport of people, and other ride Pokemon from all around the region. Since Pokemon don't usually have a need for our currency, all contracts are negotiated with them on a case by case basis. We have a Machamp on security we pay in currency, he prefers to purchase his own gear, while we have an emotional support Persian who we pay in his favourite berries!

We revolve a lot around being accessible to Pokemon. When I was looking for a place of my own, I knew I would need something with a lot of space, because of Cloudhopper- my Dragonite. I would also need a lot of outdoor space for Sweetbug, my Vespiquen, and a lot of sun for Honeybite, my Appletun. Shiverwood was built to be a place for both people and Pokemon of all walks of life, of all shapes and sizes.

That's typically the standard here, I'd say! Places that aren't accessible to all kinds of Pokemon tend to not last very long, and are generally frowned upon by most folks. This got away from me a bit still, but I hope it was helpful!

In my world, there are ways to accommodate almost all types of Pokemon. Though an age-old conundrum has been accommodating for fully aquatic Pokemon. We have towns that are partially submerged, and train carts filled with water, but we have little in the way of letting them move around on land on their own.

Perhaps we can adapt some of the stuff from your world, to better ours.

Erin- We operate on a professional basis, making sure any Pokemon that comes through our doors gets the best treatment available.  All Pokemon deserve the best and we will deliver that to the absolute best of our abilities.

A world filled with nothing but Pokemon, and I'm able to understand them due to being a Pokemon myself while I'm here! I heard you specialize in Pokemon spirituality, and I'm wondering if you'd like me to share with you my notes on what spirituality they have here?

A world filled with nothing but Pokemon? I'd certainly be interested in hearing about their practices and beliefs, if you do have notes on such.

As a bit of a ghost-type specialist myself, I'd also be interested in how pokemon which often utilize humans for parasitic relationships, like Palossand, fair in that world. Do they prey solely on other pokemon? How does that affect the dynamics between those types and others? Are these pokemon the stuff of folkloric legend, something like a vampire or cryptid with associated superstitions, or are they well known and treated just as any other pokemon in the public zeitgeist? Or something in-between?

There appear to be a number of sacred sites around this world, from what I’ve researched! Places like the Hidden Land, a landmass that’s perpetually a second in the future, or the Tree of Life, a gigantic tree that is also Xerneas, and keeps the planet in orbit!

There also seems to be something called the Voice of Life, some sort of living embodiment of the planet itself! I am absolutely fascinated by this, and am very excited to learn more, or perhaps even meet them!

As for practices, I haven’t learned much of those yet, but I’m researching!

Ghost-types seem to be treated much the same as other Pokemon here. I met a young Mimikyu with a Piplup costume who answered a lot of questions about ghost-types I had! They said that they eat berries and spiritual energy, and that they aren’t treated any differently than their classmates.

Of particular note, when I asked them if the urban myth of Yamasks being dead humans was true in this world, they were completely baffled, saying, and I quote, “Humans can’t die!”

I intend to find out more just what exactly they meant by this.

Humans are one of the most fascinating things known to Pokemon. They come from an entirely seperate world to ours, almost always in order to save it from calamities. What is their world like? What makes them perfect candidates to save our world? What, exactly, is a human really? Those are all questions I am fascinated with, and hope to find the answers to soon, now that I'm partners with a true, real human.
