Intro

felt like the appropriate way of starting this blog off was with an introduction post!

so Hiya! I’m Rodentblood aka Rodent and this is an ask blog for allllll of my characters, or at least the ones I am currently developing and am writing stories for.

A vast majority of my characters are split up based on what story they’re apart of but given I like crossovers, almost all of them make cameos or frequently cross paths with characters from other stories. I just like having a massive universe where all my ocs live and their stories work off one another, it’s fun to me. 

I currently have 4 main stories I’m working on: 

Lazy in Space - the tale of an apathetic cyclops mouse alien assisting a cyborg robot headed feline/fish attempting to escape the clutches of a vicious hivemind android hell bent on murdering them.

Violent Tendencies - After failing in her attempts to rule the world a former computer virus seeks refuge in a rather scandalous rated R video game.

Para Familia - A demon jester with unknown origins desperately craves for a family. 

The Circus - the story of a trans teenager who falls in love with a demon clown

You’re more than welcome to ask about any of my characters/stories and I’ll do my best to answer any and all questions I receive! I’ll also be tossing up bits and fragments of world building here as well as even some short drabbles who knows maybe even some comic pages if I can muster up the courage to give those a try!

I was chatting with a pal last night of an epiphany I had in regards to my story telling for my characters and a particular sona I have that I use mostly for venting and extremely intimate personal pieces

That character is Trust, I've only shown a few images of them ages ago on my art blog when they were a feral borzoi but they've since evolved to be humanoid and bare more of a resemblance to myself

this character always held a sort of 'god like' air to them, a creator a story teller

which I was always cautious about pursuing cause I felt...awkward?? making a deity like being based on myself. Like I know many folks have god modes or just straight up god sonas but I feared coming off as though I felt above god in a way?

But lately the more I've thought about it the more it made sense to make this character into a god

we're taught that humans are made in gods image after all and so when it comes to my own story telling and the worlds I've built and designed I guess it just sort of fits

even down to the process of evolution like most artists (not all) growing up the stuff I first drew? animals, just silly creatures, they didn't have names or stories or plots just silly beings I made for fun from there my art slowly evolved to have character, these creatures got names, some evolved into bipdeal anthros and soon my first stories started to crop up, developing more and more as I got older and then my stories changed to not only have animals but humans

reflections of my own self in my art reflections of a god's own self cause after all they tell us humanity was made in gods own image bits of god torn off and given their own sense of self, their own stories

stories entrusted to a deity to not only craft but to tell

which gives a reason for my sonas to have similar faces, similar names and carry similar lessons and themes in their stories stories dealing with loss, abandonment, betrayal, illness, loneliness, all things I've endured and try to heal from by having my characters overcome them or learn to live with them

all my stories are tragic but I mean ALL stories are inherently tragic, cause they end

and while I don't see Trust being a malevolent deity they are a truthful one, they don't hide the pain and sorrow. The only shelter from it is self earned and comes from learning to accept it and embrace the good parts of the story

these thoughts had been plaguing me for a few weeks now and I'm honestly digging the idea of it all and I plan on developing this further though I'm still going to be keeping Trust a known secret and relatively hidden from public view they may show up from time to time in art pieces I'm willing to share but those will be super infrequent as I don't really like sharing that side of myself publicly they're mostly just for me and are and will remain mainly my vent sona but I wanted to share these thoughts I was having

since I just talked about clown demons in my lore for Vertebrae's world on her blog

figured it'd be fun to mention why I've written my lore so clown demons hatch from eggs lmao

'like ew isn't that a fetish?? ' yes this is true BUT it's also funny as hell, avoids pregnancy which is a bit of an uncomfy subject to me AND it's a fun lil homage to the real world clown industry!

how? well in real life there's something called 'the clown egg registry' that archives the personal face makeup of professional clowns

it's been around for like 80-ish years at this point?? and it started off as a hobby but later the practice was accepted as a way to memorialize clowns of the past and assist in avoiding similar make up styles, cause a real clown never steals another clowns look.

And the practice is still a kept up to this day! There's a form and everything available on the Clowns International website

So I thought it'd be a funny quirky lil way to tie in the real world clowning industry with my stories and lore (though my clowns certainly break A LOT of clown code which is also a thing look it up)

is it still weird? sure lol but I don't really care, it's all just for fun in the end and clowns are meant to be fun

concept for an AU idea of Vermin in DnD

Vermin would be of a fairy lineage, her village was aided by a dragon who deemed himself a god (big daddy) and he offered them his power should they worship him. At first their loyalty was won over by his claims of aiding them, tho in reality he was aiding himself and securing a following to grow his own power. Eventually when bribery wasn't enough he took to violence, eating anyone who dared to oppose him.

With the threat of being devoured the fairies of the village simply continued to follow their new deity and soon their society was nothing but slaves for the dragon.

A small army was created to build up the fairies defenses and to protect the hoard of wealth the dragon seized. Amongst them was Veronica (Vermin) who quickly climbed the ranks to be captain. She was strong and cut throat exactly the type the dragon desired but she is using her position to try and find a means to usurp him. Veronica would be a paladin warrior with her main weapons being dual scimitars.

She's tall for fairy standards but despite her still small size she can pack a lot of weight into her attacks. She also utilizes her wings to boost her speed.

Not sure what all will be kept of this for the possible game we're going to play but felt like writing it down cause i like the idea enough and it's a unique AU for Vermin that I hadn't tackled yet Having her be a knight makes sense given her current role as Big Daddy's bodyguard

Puppy aka my pokesona/oc lore! ended up giving him a complete story type deal cause why not

Puppy's body is a well marked harlequin shiny Lopunny that came from a very prestigious breeding ranch in Sinnoh. He's got very symmetrical split markings and was originally bred to be a top tier contest Lopunny but was bought as a family pokemon.

Puppy's mind was originally a human male trainer, he ended up using a prototype synchro machine a family acquaintance was working on that ended up malfunctioning and killed his human body and the mind of his beloved Buneary companion.

He in turn got his mind stuck in the body of his Buneary and has been trapped there since the accident. Unable to communicate and tell other's what had happened he watched his own funeral play out and had a complete mental break upon seeing his urn brought home.

Puppy wears a tiny soothe bell he had gifted his Buneary when he took her on their first shopping haul together, and with the power of the soothe bell along with his love and guilt for his Buneary he evolved into his current Lopunny form.

He was originally handed down to his younger sibling but ended up breaking his original pokeball and running away. Unable to handle living in his home with his family being unaware he was there and treating him like a mere pokemon.

Despite his best efforts tho he was quickly caught in the woods by a random trainer who upon seeing Puppy's unique coloration instantly threw him into the Pokemon Contest circuit. Puppy found the whole ordeal deeming and refused to comply with his new trainer's demands. Often fighting back violently which ultimately led to his quick retirement from contests.

Being able to handle Puppy his new trainer traded him into a Pokemon breeding ranch/sanctuary where Puppy was meant to be used as a new breeder. But he continues to prove resilient and violent toward others. The only move he's ever learned, as moves don't come naturally to him being a human in a Pokemon body, is the move Frustration.

Currently Puppy only tolerates two other pokemon in the sanctuary. A tiny shiny Meowscarada named Spinach who from his first day upon arriving has always treated him kindly and is very caring toward him. and Mizzing_No a suitor lopunny who quickly learned she can break down Puppy and enjoys bullying him immensely. While they aren't exactly friends they do have their moments tho usually it ends up in a brawl.

an ability I've been thinking about but am not sure of bringing up in her RP blog is Vertebrae's memory viewing

it'd be similar to how she hears bones and their desires but this would relate purely to the living

her eyes would turn entirely gold and you'd be able to see any past memory of yours through her eyes, letting others relive them or properly recall what they've thought they'd forgotten

it'd only work as long as she maintains eye contact without her glasses though which would be an incredibly rare thing for her to allow/offer to others

again not sure if I'd use it in the rp blog so uncertain if I should even mention it there pfpffpf just something I've been thinking about

I love when people ask me about my sona Rodent's story expecting it to be about a silly alien mouse going on fun adventures in space

then I hit with the reality that's their story is about:

eugenicist alien races, forced sexual assigment surgery, rape, forced conception, stalking, genocide and murder.

Rodent's story is a very personal dark story. Many concepts from it are representative of personal struggles with my own health issues and the sexist ideologies I grew up facing.

Their story is not a happy one despite their adorable appearance.

I figured out how I want Vertebrae and La Muerte's relationship to be in the story and have it make sense why La Muerte chose Vertebrae to possibly crown as a goddess

so to recap for those who don't know Vertebrae is the aftermath of two minds fighting for control over one body those being Mr. Trickster the demon clown and Vermin the sentient computer virus

Mr. Trickster is just a demon he's been around for centuries and he obtained the blessing of La Muerte for healing and immortality

Vermin is a downloaded personality interface that whose original mind and memories came from a human who went by Squeaks. Vermin infected Mr. Trickster and that's how they eventually became Vertebrae.

Squeaks is the key part I'm tying the connection to. Squeaks is one of La Muerte's human descendants whose mind found a way to have an immortal body

La Murete in my version didn't have immortal children because she's death. She wants her family to experience death and to be with her.

But now one of her blood has found themselves in a body that can't die, so La Muerte is now at a crossroad.

Let Vertebrae continue and eventually crown her a goddess or put an end to her to have her soul rejoin the rest of the family in the land of the dead.

She can go either route but currently is steering toward keeping Vertebrae alive simply cause she finds herself enjoying her company and it's altering her views on her own position as death.

Vertebrae's new titling should she become a goddess would be of Reincarnation/Life. Allowing souls who want to live again another chance rather than leaving them in the land of the dead.

La Muerte does not enjoy the thought of losing her souls but from the few glimpses she's seen of souls returning to the husks Vertebrae creates she realizes that some do greatly desire to walk the land of the living once more.

So there's a possibility she'll allow Vertebrae to fully reincarnate souls so she can find joy in her family so that later when they die again La Muerte can accept them back and begin the process a new should the soul wish for it.

Mother death and Mother life hand in hand creating a perfect balance where they both can be happy with their familias.

Since I wrote about her on my discord server I'mma slap this info here as well lol

Some lore on La Muerte from Vertebrae's story -

La Muerte governs the land of the dead and cares for all the souls of those who have died. She's incredibly similar to how she's depicted in 'The book of life' movie if you've ever seen it

She's sweet, loving and cares for all souls. She also has the power to heal and save people from death though she doesn't use it unless she knows the soul isn't meant to die yet.

La Muerte is a massive gambler (again similar to The book of life version lol) and loves to make bets and wagers.

She also drinks a lot of alcohol, this coming from the whole tradition of leaving an offering of alcohol on ofrenda during Dia De Los Muertos. She's the one who gave Vertebrae the recipe for the pomegranate blood wine among others!

La Muerte is fully aware of Vertebrae's entire past and how she's not the original soul that her body hosted, aka she knows it was Mr. Tricksters. She knew the demon clown for years as they often hung out and played cards together. This is how Mr. Trickster won La Muerte's blessing/curse. He beat her in a card game and so he was given her healing powers.

She doesn't tell Vertebrae anything about her past because Vertebrae's still alive and needs to figure it out on her own but La Muerte likes to visit her monthly to check in as she's pretty fascinated by her. She's also slowly working to potentially crowning Vertebrae as a goddess herself one day.

La Muerte usually only speaks Spanish unless she realizes those she's speaking with can't communicate with her so she switches to English/whatever language is required, she even knows ASL and many ancient dead languages.

She can also change her appearance by shapeshifting to appear as a commoner and walk among the living. This is how she's met her previous mortal husbands/wives and she's had hundreds of mortal descendants by doing this. The skulls on her crown + gown are from her direct descendants. Aside from wearing their remains she doesn't give them any special treatment though and none of her descendants have any of her abilities or are godly in anyway. They're just normal humans.

I freaking love that trope of two souls being eternally bound no matter what or who they are/become.

Which is why I'm glad I decided to sneak in the shade for Vertebrae's story. I was wondering what I'd do to include a Pancreas alt into her story or if I even should and boom inspiration in the form of her literal freaking shadow.

Obvi the shade doesn't love Vertebrae like the twins love Vermin nor how Pancreas loves his partner

but it doesn't need too, it can just enjoy being around her and being her loyal companion. Her shadow. Constantly by her side and helping her with her goals just because it enjoys seeing her happy.

It fills the same niche but in a brand new way and in a way I hadn't written for a previous Pancreas alternate either. In all their previous forms they where always the lover never the best friend or simple loyal companion and it's refreshing to write them this way.

When first making her blog I was incredibly tempted to make Vertebrae Pansexual / Aromantic to have her as an even split between Vermin and Mr. Trickster

but now I'm thinking I may alter it so she's Demiromantic

Cause as I keep mentioning she's her own individual person. Not either of her past minds or a true fusion of them. So realistically she shouldn't fully mirror them in most aspects of her personality.

I still got a lot to develop about her tbh and things may change or alter as I figure more things out but really that's incredibly fitting for her character as she's still figuring herself out as well.

Vertebrae's intense desire to craft and build her skeleton creatures is obviously influenced by Vermin's programming. BUT Vermin wasn't the only one with an intense desire for a familial bond, Mr. Trickster though he doesn't really show it, also is very family oriented.

Mr. Trickster had of course Giggle his SO and favorite person in the world but he also has his circus troupe. A rag-tag team of lesser demons he took under his wing over the years and who over time grew to be his family.

So both minds combined had that demand for family and closeness but Vertebrae being a new thing entirely doesn't have anyone to call her family. And her hunger prevents her from viewing most living creatures as more than just food so she latched on to the next best thing which was those creatures remains.

The magical knowledge of Mr. Trickster still lingers in her mind so she knew raising the remains was possible and Vermin's ability to spawn hybrid creatures was the blueprints for her wanting to mash skeletons together to make something brand new.

When Vertebrae first emerged all she felt was hunger and loneliness so after attempting to make a meal of a deer and realizing she didn't enjoy the taste, (she /can/ eat most fauna but she cannot survive on it alone she needs to eat humans to live) she instead found another use for the carcass and so that's where it all started.

I'm not entirely sure how Vertebrae would react to genuine attempts of others trying to get close to her. Mainly because she currently doesn't see living creatures as anything other than potential food or tools.

She has yet to look someone in the eye and realize 'oh this…is a living creature who I don't want to wait til their dead to care about'

Would she be willing to allow herself to grow close to someone without the desire to just rip their flesh off to skip a few steps in keeping them in her family forever? ┐༼ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°༽┌

Still thinking about character heights so let's chat about Vertebrae!

The menacing human eating demon who stands at a threatening

4 foot 9 inches

She's shorter than Vermin's 5'2" but taller than Mr. Trickster's 3'5"

I was originally tempted to make her taller than both (sort've combining heights deal) but I much prefer a smol like gremlin scuttling around

It's also much more comical imo so it helps lend to her clowniness to have her be this evil monstrous creature but also teeny tiny. It's why Mr. Trickster is so small tbh lol I love small villains so much they're like angry chihuahuas ♥

I still haven't designed it cause I have like a billion other projects lmaoooo but likely in her true demon form she'll be much taller, again, similar to Vermin and Mr. Trickster who both have secondary monster forms that are absolute behemoths.

Not entirely sure how big I wanna make or even if I'm gonna limit her to 1 extra form since Vermin had a billion alt forms why not give Vertebrae that shapeshifter ability ya know? Mr. Trickster also has a similar ability too but his is more ~illusions~ than true shapeshifting which is why I keep fighting with myself if I wanna give it to her or not hMMMMMMM def something I'm considering though!
