I blazed this post yesterday as a kind of "event" for one of Tumblr's unofficial "holidays", and right now it's a little bit past the halfway point in the campaign (it was approved later than I expected).
I have to say it's not doing badly, and has been an interesting experience to follow!
Is this literally what it is? It’s just It’s Gonna Be May but we’re riffing on his hair? Please, I’m so gullible. This is the real thing that it is, right?
Yup! It went from captioned screenshots or gifs of Justin Timberlake from the music video making fun of his pronunciation of "me" as "may" (+/- the "roses are red" type poetry), that specifically say "It's Gonna Be May",
To unrelated (and often uncaptioned) pictures of Justin from any old thing/era, that people understood as "it's gonna be May",
To an obscure reference to his "ramen noodle hair" era vis-a-vis a block of uncooked ramen that takes the place of the picture of Justin!
So now, during the last week of April when you see:
Roses are red,
April is grey,
But in a few days,
Then you understand via the chain of logic that "uncooked ramen noodles" = unrelated photo of Justin Timberlake = "it's gonna be May"!
This is one of my favorite memes because it's so many levels iterated from the original. :3

Tbh I feel like Disney holding off on showing anything off from the Live Action Little Mermaid movie aside from Halle Bailey herself for literally years up until two months out from release feels pretty calculated.
Cuz it meant any misgivings about the film was basically funnelled through to solely being on Halle Bailey's casting and race. I feel like Disney has thrown yet another black actress to the wolves to deal with the racism and harassment, instead of promoting anyone or anything else associated with the film up until the full trailer released, and I feel like ANY promotion of any of the other characters would have blunted the racism and hate aimed squarely at Halle Bailey.
Idek it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth how poorly Disney seems to treat their non white actors and leaving them to deal with the online hate when Disney could have literally had the burden shared if any of the other actors had as much promotion as she did for this film.
