((***i feel like i have to put a trigger warning here for violence, blood and medical content. basically aesop gets very excited and goes very in detail about the surgical embalming process and one of his clients. like. the one that got stabbed in the face. multiple times***))
Ah, that’s usually for arterial embalming where you remove the blood through the veins and then replace them with the embalming fluid. We usually work with hydrogen bromide, but we also use formaldehyde and other chemicals.
Oh, there was this one time I had to embalm a body with 39 stab wounds to the face. There wasn’t much blood left in the body itself with how badly she had bled, probably, I couldn’t really be sure by the time the body got to me, and I thought that it would be difficult to pump in the embalming fluid through the blood vessels because I thought they would have collapsed or something, not to mention all the blood vessels in her face and head were probably not in tact.
But it was surprisingly easy to pump in the embalming fluid! I was so surprised! Ah, of course I had to fix the face first or the fluid would have leaked out from her head and that would have gotten a lot messier. Oh, have I mentioned about how we have to close the mouth and sew the jaw shut? Sometimes we use wire with a needle and a tool called the needle injector to sort of anchor the top and the bottom jaws before we arrange the face. If we sew it shut, we usually sew the lower jaw to the nostrils to secure it in place instead.
Oh, speaking of the face, as for the eyes…
