Plural is an opt-in label. It means more than one. The minimum count is 1*, not even 2. The not-quite multiple are who plurality was meant to include. It’s not being overt or separate or amnestic or distressed that makes you(&) plural, because diagnosis is irrelevant and those are all criteria. Median and midcontinuum folk are as plural as anymany. Only you(&) get to decide whether you(&) count.
my "i'm not plural but my headmates are" shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by my shirt
'whats being intoxicated like for you as a system' irritating
Plural culture is SIMPLY PLURAL IS GONE?!??!!? AFTER ALL OUR HARD WORK IT'S JUST. GONE???? Folks... what do we use now???? /genq
We had actually no idea this was happening, we've been blissfully oblivious for some reason. We still have physical info cards so it's not like we have nothing but if anyone is able to recommend a replacement app / website, it would be greatly appreciated.

Practically every other post I see by a fictive is them apologizing for their source, feeling bad about their source, or laughing at themself for just fucking existing in this world as a fictive. Stop that. Stop insulting yourself. Stop putting yourself down. Stop telling the world that you don't deserve to be taken seriously. Stop telling the world that your relationships, your efforts, your experiences are worth mockery. You are worth more than that. You have worth. You have a right to love yourself, too. You have a right to respect, too. You have a right to be taken seriously, too. You have a right to everything that everyone else has a right to. Every time you feel like you need to make a joke at your own expense, remind yourself of that. You. Deserve. More. Than. Laughter. At. Your. Existence.
This was inspired by trends we saw in fictive posts, but this also goes for factives and all other sourced headmates. Stop treating your life like a joke. Stop talking bad about yourself. You are a living being. You are not a punchline. You do not deserve mockery for being yourself. You are worth being taken seriously. You are worthy of respect and understanding. You are deserving of a full life! Live! Live without shame! Live without these jokes that treat you as nothing more than absurd entertainment for existing! Live without treating and talking about yourself as nothing more than absurd entertainment! Do not treat your life like a series of jokes, treat it as your life! That's what it is! Live unafraid and unashamed! Live as you! Live for you!

On switching, and being a host
metadata is part of your message. your name, your avatar, all communicate things about you. if your message was sent by a different user it would often be interpreted differently.
this is even more true for plural systems, who, with tools like PluralKit (or even just emoji signifying), have to decide for each message who to indicate said a thing, or whether to indicate such information at all.
with an established rapport, a lot of meaning can be conveyed with the use of a proxy. something that would be rude out of one headmates mouth may seem friendly from another (see: calibration). but less positive associations can be built too. "oh god you're in front is everything ok?" is not necessarily a nice association to have with your existence (although perhaps useful for some).
tightly built rapports with other systems can convey a lot. "oh you immediately fronted when i talked about this fantasy, is that good for you~?". "you two are in front together a lot, do you like each other or something~?". there is space to build very intimate understandings of a system's inner workings.
but this creates a dilemma with more distant relationships. if someone doesn't know your system well enough to pick up on the extra information provided by a choice of proxy, how much do they need that? oftentimes systems will end up offering headmate explanations, system diagrams, simplyplural accounts, etc. early on in a relationship to frontload this information and open up those communicative potentials right away, rather than letting someone learn over time. but for large systems this can also be overwhelming, a lot of information for someone to internalise at once.
a tension is created, between plurality as a model for understanding yourself, and as a tool for communicating with other people.
do you show a full system diagram? or only a simplified version with the headmates you think someone is likely to meet. how much do you elide variations between similar headmates to simplify yourself for other people. it's often a terrible plural anxiety, to think you're too big or complicated for many people to care to understand. but these are also decisions made every time someone "lies" about a proxy, choosing to hide the fact a more vulnerable headmate is in front, or when someone chooses a less accurate but more socially appropriate avatar for public spaces.
models of plurality as a socially realised identity, and as a form of internal self understanding will probably always be in tension. but it's worth thinking about their interactions

Hey @daja-the-hypnokitten? I just want to make sure you see this. Because every single time you work out which of us is fronting without even hearing us speak? I am just floored.
I am so lucky to be so loved and so seen. Makes me happy to see others with the same blessing to be loved and seen and known.

Plurality is just a framework. Not a binary truth. It’s a way of conceptualizing self.
Works for some.
Not for others.
But it works for me. Helps me parse through my personal complexities and behaviors.
And that’s all it needs to do.
The idea that introjects, fictives, and factives are rare is a bit absurd to me. I remember seeing someone citing their opinion with a study done in the mid-to-late 20th century (its been a long time since I saw this post and wasn't able to find the study they used,) but people's relationship with fiction and celebrities have changed wildly since then.
While I could believe older systems would have far less inteojects, younger people (30, or even 40 and younger) have either grown up with near infinite access to a variety of media or were at the age they could comfortably learn to access it. To an extent, media has also become part of our identities, with it being assumed you have a favourite video game, movie, or TV show. It should be unsurprising that introrjects are becoming increasingly common compared to brainmade headmates. You can even see this trend outside of mental health spaces, with popular YA novels being recycled fanfiction.
If you think systems have a large number of introjects is proof of them faking, you're completely disconnected from how large a role fiction plays in our day-to-day life.
We're in our late 40s, almost 50.
Our first known fictive, Bambi, formed in 1978, after our parents took us to see that movie at a drive in theater (along with fictives of Thumper and Flower, too).
Our first awareness of a fictive forming and taking the front was in 1980, while walking out of the theater, having just seen Empire Strikes Back. Luke Skywalker had a nice little conversation with our dad about how good it felt to see the movie as we rode home.
We've had so, SO many since then.
We just didn't know what they were or what to call them until fairly recently.
Honestly, a lot of what happens in a system usually goes on without much notice or comment made to the outside world, and without language to describe it.
Very likely, many older systems have had plenty of fictives and just never learned to recognize them and acknowledge them as separate people. And, maybe, if they don't recognize their existence now, it's because they aren't in the habit of doing so, and feel like they're doing fine. Or something like that.
But, as others have pointed out, if you read accounts and case studies of systems from the '80s and '90s, or even earlier, you will find references to introjects All The Time. Maybe usually factives, but they didn't necessarily have the words "fictive" and "factive" to identify them.
We remember one case study referenced where a system had Hitler and his cabinet of fascists as factive introjects who were encouraged to grow and develop due to abusers. As part of their recovery, those particular introjects decided to re-identify as Ewoks as a way of distancing themselves from their original sources. (We read this back in 2015 on some official website somewhere, but haven't found it again since.)
It's really honestly just simply not a new phenomenon.
What's new is the online communities where fictives can meet and grow, support each other, and express themselves
