5. Bill is a closeted gay man; unless you ask him about it

6. He is a self-sacrificial and stubborn man,  prioritises the well-being of the survivors, and never really cares for himself (basically what is portrayed by L4D). He tries to be the best father figure as he can be to the survivors, but secretly worries of letting them down.

7. His cigarette is a form of coping mechanism and a habit he had suffered from events of the Vietnam War. He has suffered from minor effects from war trauma but slowly grow desensitised to it after killing zombies in the L4D universe for a period of time.

8. Loneliness is a boon and a bane for Bill, depending on different scenarios. He sometimes enjoy the tranquility of the fog as it was something that was rare to experience back in his world (trying to constantly be alert to evacuate to different locations); Other times, he yearns for someone to accompany him. Though he never admits his true feelings out loud.

9. He tries to stray away from affectionate gestures to a s/o out of fear and insecurity, which were resulted from the strong homophobic sentiment among soldiers who he had lived together in his time.

I have seen people sorta hating Bill because he's a green beret

If you don't know what the green berets did they did some awful war crimes against Vietnamese civilians during The Vietnam War

Now onto Bill

I have seen a few people ask the question "If Bill is a green beret did he partake in the heinous shit that the green berets did?"

I'm gonna put that at a hard no

Given what we know about Bill in the game and in The Sacrifice comic Bill doesn't seem the kinda dude who would do that shit

Yeah he's a cranky old military vet but I don't think he's a war criminal

Just because Bill is a green beret doesn't make him a war criminal

That's like accusing Francis or Nick of heinous shit like that just because of their criminal past

So no I don't think Bill is a war criminal and I firmly stand by that
