There is a rattling sound coming from under the sink along with other strange sounds.

Xenon: apologies for how badly this introduction is. The bathroom characters are difficult since there are no windows or access to the outdoors.

[At first, Barry does not seem to notice the noise - until he is bapped in the arm by MBM, googly eyes expressing her usual sort of exhaustion.]

Oh-? Goodness, alright, Muse, I'll check it out.

[Barry pats her head with a fond smile, moving to crouch down below the sink.] Hello? Someone stuck here?

A small brown kitten with odd spotting and an orange streak is hiding between rolls of toilet paper.

"Mew." There is a barely visible pink and blue collar around her neck.

Oh, hello little one! You're so small...

[Barry fully kneels on the floor, extending a hand to the kitten with patience and caution.] What are you doing here, hmm? You don't look like one of Mateo's!

She leans her head forward to sniff at Barry’s hand, but decides she’s too scared to come out.

Well now, aren't you just precious, darling? A real animal, it seems, at that... and you can see me? Curious! Now, now, what has you so afraid? You can do far more damage to me than I you, I fear! Especially with no thumbs to open up products with to eat them...

[Even so, he stays still, patient. The kitten may take her time.]

She sits back there for a minute or two, until her stomach starts making sounds of hunger.

She slowly approaches Barry again, before finally jumping out of the cabinet. She paws at his knee.

Ah, there you are, little one! [Barry is slow as he gives a single-finger pat to her head, gentle.] Goodness, what to do with you. I don't quite think the bathroom is a place for a kitten! And to think, you can touch me, too - will you allow me to handle you?

She goes closer to Barry’s warmth and nuzzles against his hand.

She is still very hungry.

[Barry gently picks the kitten up, holding her close to his chest. He hesitates for only a moment before stepping out of the bathroom with her, feeling MBM land atop his shoulder as he frets.]

Oh dear, let me see... I could go to Mateo? Or perhaps Mitchell? The kitchens would have food, anyhow... though you're very small, are you really big enough for food, or would you need some sort of formula?

She rolls on her back. Extremely comfortable in Barry’s hands.

Her paws wiggle around like a turtle stuck on its back, but not trying to right herself. She’s just hungry, “mew! Mew!”

Yes, yes - oh! [Barry is startled slightly as MBM takes off, far slower than her as he gently tickles the kitten's tummy.] We'll find something, I'm sure!

[By the time Barry finds himself in the kitchen, the blendbird is sitting on a table next to a bottle. Her googly eyes convey nothing.]

Why - goodness, Muse, I'm not sure how you do what you do! [Barry picks up the bottle, moving it to the kitten.] Here you are.

She clings to it with her front paws and she falls on her back with the bottle. She drinks it happily.

There we are, there we are! [Barry continues to feed the kitten, smiling.] Goodness me but you're small, darling? Where could you have come from?

On her neck is that tiny collar with a lipstick charm that says "Chromium" on the tube and "(Cr)" on the actual lipstick of the charm.

[Barry blinks at the charm, surprised to see it in the shape of lipstick.] That... that's me? That you would have a charm like that and be in such an odd place...

I suppose your name is Chromium, then! A fine enough name as any other, I think. Well, Chromium, drink up - I'm not sure how to care for a real-life kitten, but I can do my best!

As she drinks she rocks a bit. Once she finishes her fur shimmers and the colours shift to match Barry’s hair and ribbon. The bottle is empty, but she keeps trying to drink it. She does not understand that there is nothing left in it.

[There is a slight gasp from Barry as she changes color, eyes lighting up. He sets the bottle aside, instead holding her up to eye level.]

My goodness, darling! Look at you! Why, you - you match! We match! I don't quite think a normal cat is capable of - where in the world did you come from?

Her tongue bleps out and the colours change again, matching his jacket instead.

*Mateo hums to himself as he makes his way to the upstairs bathroom. He’d been overworking himself again- and now tempted by Barry’s recent offer of a spa day. He’s still hesitant though, as if Barry would do anything other than greet him with open arms.*

Hey, Barry! Are you, uhm, busy right now? I hope I’m not interrupting anything…

[Barry turns immediately at the sound of Mateo's voice, brightening so much that it's nearly blinding. He is quick to close the distance, cupping Mateo's cheeks in order to plant one, two, three quick kisses along his forehead.]

Oh, darling, for you? Imagine, being too busy for you! You could never interrupt me, love, I am happy to see you at any time!

*For a few moments, Mateo is speechless as his mind blanks from Barry’s bright smile and the loving kisses. Then a flush spreads across his face, placing his hands over Barry’s with a warm (but worn out) smile.*

That’s… that’s great! Uh, I was hoping we could do that spa day you mentioned a while back?

Betty’s watching the inanimals right now, so they’ll be okay for a little while…

[Barry gives a delighted gasp, almost immediately taking one of Mateo's hands in his and rushing to the make-up kit, right into his salon domain. His grip is tight, but not painful, clearly eager.]

Of course, of course! Oh, how exciting - you most certainly could use some TLC, couldn't you, darling?

*The blanket isn’t one to often admit when he needs help, but he’s been working on it. With a nod and a little smile, he answers.*

Yeah. I do think I could. The rescue has been so busy lately, and… I do need this.

[Barry squeezes his hand, eyes lit up with nothing less than full adoration. Even so, there is a clear level of performance on in his voice, almost too crisp and clear and bright.]

You do! And there's few others in the house better suited to help! Just leave it to Barry Styles, darling - is there anything you're most interested in? A facial? A massage? Ooh, a manicure and hand massage! All of it, of course, but if there's one you'd like to start with-

*Mateo picks up on the performance, but he doesn’t judge or even say anything. Instead, he wraps his arms around Barry the best he can and nuzzles into his mesh shirt.*

[Barry stops in his tracks as he is hugged, surprise falling across his face as he seems to forget what he's doing. After a beat or two, he wraps his arms around Mateo as well, nestling his chin atop his head. When he speaks, he is a bit quieter, tone less overly-peppy.]

Hello, darling. I do quite enjoy your hugs, you know? Let me try again... is there anything you're particularly interested in doing first, love? If not, this is nice too.

*He hums as he squeezes Barry gently before stepping back, searching his face for… something, perhaps any trace of performance. It seems he’d found none of it by the way the blanket man smiles.*

[Barry giggles softly, planting another kiss to Mateo's crown.] I love you too, dear!

That sounds delightful. And really, Mateo darling - it truly isn't a bother at all. I'm happy to dote upon you. Feel free to sit - what color are you thinking?

*Mateo melts at the kiss to his head. He sits at a nearby chair, glancing to Barry’s own nails before looking back up at him.*

Gold. Like yours, so we can match!

[Barry lights up at this, though it's a genuine amount with far less flash. He walks to the other side of the nail station, twirling a platform of colors until it stops on gold.]

Darling, that's a marvelous choice! It will match the yellows in your coat and shawl-belt quite nicely! We'll have to do a couple - three, really - layers, so it might take a bit! Maybe four, hm...

*He beams.*

That’s okay! I don’t mind. It just means we have more time to spend together!

[Barry's face melts in soft affection, the barest of flush topping his cheeks.]

Very well! It's best to start with a white coat for colors that might struggle to stand out in vibrancy, so we can begin with that one. After it dries, a round or two of the gold... and then it will be finished with a clear, protective topcoat!

[Barry pauses for a moment as he selects the white polish, a slight giggle to his words.] Maybe we both fancy coats, hm?

*Mateo giggles too, rubbing the back of his neck. …He is once again wearing his usual coat, not yet confident enough to take it off while walking through the house.*

I guess so, haha!

[Barry is efficient, quick, and steady-handed as he takes one of Mateo's hands in his, already preparing the white coat of paint. He delicately begins to apply them, humming softly as he does.]

While this dries, I'll treat you to your lovely hand massage, darling. The polish won't get on me since I don't want it to - so no fear of mess!

*Mateo smiles as Barry takes his hand, immediately fascinated with how expertly the makeup man works.*

[Each time Barry finishes a coat, he plants a kiss on the back of Mateo's hand before going on to rub and massage along the muscles and bones within it. He chatters away, discussing the origins of different shades, what colors he thinks would look best on Mateo, and even regales in a silly story regarding a slip-up from MBM as he applies the clear coat toward the end.]

It really was a sight to see, darling! Goodness, the way she pouted - I had been in the middle of washing out my brushes and she toppled right into the sink while it was filled with water! I've never heard her make a noise so perfectly similar to a squeaky toy!

*Mateo giggles as the story is told, picturing the beauty blendbird’s antics in his mind. His hand is nice and relaxed now, almost like he isn’t a workaholic at all.*

That’s so silly! I hope she didn’t soak up too much water!

Oh, goodness, no, thankfully! She's not the most absorbent creature, despite her nature... But dear me, the stink eye she'll give now if I ask if she wants a bath!

[As Barry finishes the final coat, he leans over, kissing Mateo sweetly.]

I wonder if any of the inanimals are quite as patient being groomed as you!

*Mateo has to gather his thoughts after he kisses Barry back, having gotten his thoughts scrambled from it.*

Well, Damask loves grooming day, though she can get a bit wiggly. Davi's probably the most patient when he isn't running off to rescue more stray inanimals, haha!

Oh, is that so? Goodness, I can only imagine how Stitch must do, too! It must be quite a good bit of work. You're so very wonderful with them, darling.

*Mateo flushes at the praise before answering.*

Stitch does great on grooming day- as long as I take him on a long walk beforehand, or do something else to get him all worn out. A lot of the tasselhounds are like that, actually! So it’s good to let them run around and tire themselves out beforehand!

*He smiles at the new color on his nails, happy to be matching with Barry. He looks up at the makeup man, excited for the next part of spa day.*

Ah, an excellent choice, darling! Let's get properly comfortable, then.

[Barry smiles as he stands, looping one of his arms around Mateo's in order to pull him out of the salon, into his living space. He plants him gently on his couch, the room better lit and neater than the time Mateo had visited during burnout.]

I'll just grab some washcloths, a scrub, a mask, some moisturizer - let's see if we can't make your face even more kissable, hmm?

*Mateo giggles as his face flushes at Barry’s words.*

O-okay!

*He takes the moment to look around when Barry goes to grab the items.*

[Though Barry disappears for a moment, MBM is suddenly sitting on the arm of the couch with a soft beep. How she arrived there is unknown, but the beauty blendbird settles herself there as if she belongs. Barry returns shortly, though, settling on the couch next to him.]

I don't suppose you have any make-up on at the moment? Either way, we start with washing and wetting the face. [He holds up a pink washcloth, already damp.] Then we move on to exfoliation!

*Mateo startles as MBM suddenly appears, then giggles.*

You’re a sneaky little one, aren’t you?

*As Barry reappears, Mateo is quick to shift his attention back to him.*

Oh! No, I’m not wearing any makeup, so I’m all ready!

[There is a soft, friendly beep from MBM as she tilts back and forth. Barry smiles, holding up the wash cloth and gently swiping it over Mateo's face - it's warm, comfortably so, and not so wet that it would drip.]

Alrighty then! I mean, goodness, you hardly need any make-up, gorgeous as you are - but if you're ever interested, you know just where to find me!

[He takes a moment to kiss Mateo's nose between moistening his face, ever a little cheeky.]

*Mateo giggles at the nose kiss. He may look overworked and a bit tired, but he’s happy.*

Mi cielo, you’re so silly!

*Little bee quietly hovers near the couch, just keeping an eye on things.*

[Barry gives a dramatic gasp, one hand held over his heart.] Me? Silly? I can hardly fathom such a notion!

[As if innocent, Barry moves to sit straddling Mateo's lap, smirking just slightly as he twists open his jar of exfoliating scrub. With his focus elsewhere, there is a moment where MBM seems to rock toward the bee, almost as if she attempts to eat it - alas, her mouth is drawn on, and the bee receives an affectionate little headbutt instead.]

This might feel a bit tingly, darling, but it's all part of the process...

*Mateo’s face flushes so prettily as his hands automatically move to hold onto Barry’s hips. He does make sure to stay still though as the exfoliating scrub is applied.*

O-oh, okay!

❗️🐝 *little bee startles at the headbutt, then settles on top of MBM.*

[Barry is gentle as he rubs circles across Mateo's face, though his smile widened at the feeling of hands on his hips. Another soft kiss is pressed to Mateo's lips in reward, even as the scent of strawberry fills the air with the scrub.]

You're so very sweet, you know that, love? What I wouldn't give to curl up in your arms all day long...

[With that, Barry gently starts wiping away the scrub with another warm cloth, relaxed and at ease in Mateo's hold compared to his usual stiffer posture.]

*Mateo has his eyes closed the whole time as the scrub is rubbed in and then removed. The scrub does feel a little tingly which is new, but it’s not bad. He keeps his hands on Barry’s hips though. If the makeup man asked, he’d say it’s so he doesn’t fall off, but really, Mateo loves holding onto those he loves. He likes being held too, but more often than not, he’s the one holding others.*

*Teo smiles at Barry’s words, a flush on his face.*

We could do that today, if you wanted..! I would definitely like that, heh.

*This might be Mateo’s spa day, but Mateo wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t offer to take care of others.*

Oh, how sweet. [There's another soft press to Mateo's lips with a hum before Barry starts prepping the facemask.] There's no reason why not. I say if you're going to have a spa day, you may as well finish it with more relaxation and affection! I'd wrap around you tighter than I lock in my concealer!

[The facemask is delicately draped over Mateo's face, Barry smiling lightly to himself.] I'd join, but then I'd have to undo all of my make-up and go through my face routine - I'd probably forget what we were doing!

*Mateo hums in agreement, staying still as the mask is draped on his face. He gently squeezes Barry’s hips affectionately, his thumbs rubbing in small circles.*

[Barry makes a soft squeak at the squeeze, face flushing prettily.]

A silly little tease, aren't you? [He kisses along Mateo's hairline, smiling into it.] Very sweet, darling.

*Mateo leans into the kisses, still rubbing circles into Barry’s hips with his thumbs.*

Ay, I’m not a tease, I just… like holding onto you.

Well, um, I - I cannot say I dislike it myself, that's for certain!

[Barry lets his own hands fall to rest on either side of Mateo, slightly flustered.] Do I get to hold you back, now, hmm?

*Mateo smiles softly, a fuzziness spreading through him. Then he pauses before chuckling.*

But uh… How long does the face mask stay on for?

Oh, about twenty minutes! Won't take too long at all, darling.

[Barry hums, pressing a kiss to the warmth of Mateo's neck.] Plenty of other lovely places in the meantime that can be peppered in love.

*He squeaks at the kiss to his neck, flustered. He was surprised at the kiss there, but it wasn't unwelcome.*

Other places? Like... my hands?

[Barry places his hands over Mateo's, removing them from his waist so that he might bring them to his lips.] Oh? like so? [He kisses his knuckles, smirking lightly.]

Such sweet and warm hands. They deserve kisses, I agree.

Oh- I- Maybe?

*Mateo squeaks again, but there’s a shaky smile on his face at the same time. Shyly he offers the palms of his hands for kisses too. No he isn’t showing Barry where he wants kisses, what are you talking about /sarcastic*

[Barry is gentle and devoted as the palms are presented - first, he kisses each digit, finally planting a smooch on the palm. He repeats this for the other hand as well, smile soft on his face.]

A beautiful canvas, as always, every inch of you, darling.

*Mateo is beyond flustered with the combination of Barry’s words and actions as he looks away. The palms of his hands are super sensitive, so each time he’s kissed there he squeaks.*

*It’s almost as if he’s still having trouble believing that- which is understandable.*

Oh, more sure of that than almost anything in my life! [Barry smiles earnestly, entirely blunt and straightforward about it.] Goodness, can you imagine otherwise? I'd drink up every bit of you for all time if I could!

[Barry brings Mateo's hands together, resting his lips on where his knuckles meet. He is beauty products, after all, and he is not immune to the standards of beauty throughout the world and time. He softens his voice just slightly.]

At first I felt awkward and gangly. I'm rather tall and lean, you know? But darling - the bigger the canvas, the more intricate and beautiful the detailing can be. You are lovely.

*Mateo manages, feeling warm like he’s fresh out the dryer. This may have been something to help him feel better about his body, but Barry’s just as beautiful.*

Of course I am! I'm Barry Styles! [The remark is punctuated by Barry tilting his head, hand fanned beneath his chin with a wink.] I am the expert on beauty, so believe me when I say that you're the perfect picture of it - or else I'll have to dramatically fall to the floor in abject misery at my loss of knowledge!

*Mateo giggles, a light blush dusting his cheeks.*

You definitely are the expert on beauty, for sure! I… don’t think I am the perfect picture of beauty, but there’s no need to fall to the floor!

Then why argue with the expert, darling? I'm not about to tell you how to comfort someone! [Barry pouts, though there is a genuine sort of sadness to his eyes.] I can't help it if you're beautiful beyond your comprehension!

[There is a soft sigh as Barry begins to remove Mateo's face mask. His voice is a bit flatter, but earnest affection still shines through.]

It's alright, love. We're working on ourselves together, are we not? Neither of us are perfect people.

*He hesitates, a frown on his face.*

I’m sorry if I disappointed you. I’m trying to work on how I see myself, really I am! Des suggested to start with neutral words, and that’s been helping… One day I’ll be able to see what you see, I’m sure!

I'm not disappointed, darling, I promise. I just - I just want you to know, regardless of how you think, that I think you're beautiful. Even if - Even if you don't feel that way about yourself, all I could ask is that you believe that I think that way. After all, I, um - I try to believe you when. When you, ah. Like me. At all.

[Most of the bright and bubbly affect of Barry's tone has dissipated, more hesitant and uncertain - but all the more real for it, as he finishes pulling off the mask.]

Ah, Des, yes? Goodness, the amount of times they've ambushed me - though I fear that I may simply have forgotten the times I've set aside to speak with them - if that is as they say, then it is likely for the best. It's almost funny, they seem so concerned about me, but surely I'm not so bad.

I can do that- believe that you think I’m beautiful. As long as you keep believing me, okay?

*Mateo hums, a soft smile on his face. He pauses then.*

I’ve only had one session with Des, and that was a while ago…

Okay. Okay then! Good. [Barry warms again, pressing a kiss to the apple of Mateo's cheek.] A deal's a deal, darling.

Now for moisturizer... [Barry applies a bit to his hands before going in with a facial massage, humming.] Well, as far as I'm aware, you can always seek them out! I think they tend to hide away in the office? Even if not for a session, they'd probably be happy to see you! I know I am.

*Mateo melts under Barry’s hands, his eyes closing in contentment.*

Why - goodness, Muse, I'm not sure how you do what you do! [Barry picks up the bottle, moving it to the kitten.] Here you are.

As she drinks she rocks a bit. Once she finishes her fur shimmers and the colours shift to match Barry’s hair and ribbon. The bottle is empty, but she keeps trying to drink it. She does not understand that there is nothing left in it.

[With that, Barry gently starts wiping away the scrub with another warm cloth, relaxed and at ease in Mateo's hold compared to his usual stiffer posture.]

*Mateo has his eyes closed the whole time as the scrub is rubbed in and then removed. The scrub does feel a little tingly which is new, but it’s not bad. He keeps his hands on Barry’s hips though. If the makeup man asked, he’d say it’s so he doesn’t fall off, but really, Mateo loves holding onto those he loves. He likes being held too, but more often than not, he’s the one holding others.*

[With that, Barry gently starts wiping away the scrub with another warm cloth, relaxed and at ease in Mateo's hold compared to his usual stiffer posture.]

If the makeup man asked, he’d say it’s so he doesn’t fall off, but really, Mateo loves holding onto those he loves. He likes being held too, but more often than not, he’s the one holding others.*

"Mew." There is a barely visible pink and blue collar around her neck.

[Barry fully kneels on the floor, extending a hand to the kitten with patience and caution.] What are you doing here, hmm? You don't look like one of Mateo's!

She sits back there for a minute or two, until her stomach starts making sounds of hunger.

She slowly approaches Barry again, before finally jumping out of the cabinet. She paws at his knee.

Ah, there you are, little one! [Barry is slow as he gives a single-finger pat to her head, gentle.] Goodness, what to do with you. I don't quite think the bathroom is a place for a kitten! And to think, you can touch me, too - will you allow me to handle you?

She is still very hungry.
