“Or so I was...once upon a time.” ✨ Ask/Roleplay blog for Aaravos from The Dragon Prince- Multi-Ship Friendly/Not spoiler-free/canon-divergence friendly/Mun is over 21 ✨ About Aaravos Rules Tags Adventures of Aaravos
Yeah so…this blog is probably dead. I don’t like to say it definitely is, because I change my mind about these things sometimes…but after that terrible ending to the series (I hated it, if you liked it I’m happy for you…but I thought it was awful. Especially what they did with Aaravos…wasting all that time on Viren when the arch is Mystery of AARAVOS, not Mystery of Viren! And several other problems I won’t go into here…) I lost my passion and enjoyment for the show and for writing this character after that.
So, (if) this is the end, I had a lot of fun while I was running the blog.
Met some great people, explored what could have been with our favorite Startouch elf who was supposed to be “disliked, but not bad” which is what I was doing…it was fun.
Thank you everyone who followed and interacted. I hope you all had fun too.
With Season 5 of TDP now out…I want to share my findings (the last one was found by a friend) with proof that Aaravos is meant to be “complicated”, not “evil” Still a long-game villain, but not evil like Zubeia claims and that the heroes believe and like the show seems to be trying to ignore or forget…until the final episode maybe.
In order of which these interviews and tweets were found:
If this ends up not being the case in season 6 or even the final season…well, this is my evidence for why I hoped otherwise. Multiple times in interviews Aaravos was called complicated and/or something positive by one or both of the creators. So, it’s what I hope and expect to see in season 6 or something.
Bonus:
Someone very important to him is mentioned to be on the map of one of the novel versions of the seasons. This at least shows he actually might not be a boring “looks down his nose at others no matter how they treat him first” and apathetic kind of villain…
No matter what the show does to either scrap these decisions or redo them, I am going to continue to write him how they described here in my work. Except not as a villain because he isn’t in a situation that he would have that role on this blog.
How I write him: A complicated person with a very complicated history and motivation, and someone that is not truly evil or heartless as he’s been said to be by people in his world. That’s the angle of this blog and if you don’t like it, this is the warning and invitation to move on.

Weirdly enough the interviews and QnA’s from the first three screenshots are missing. Probably taken down either by request of the show (no proof so I’m just speculating) or they took it down for other reasons maybe. But here is the link to the second Forbes article, which includes a video version of the full interview:
Wonderstorm co-founders Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond discuss Season 4 of 'The Dragon Prince' on Netflix. Time-jumps, complex villains, wi
View it before it’s gone if you’re a fellow TDP fan that watched up to season 4 because you wanted to see what the co-creator meant by ‘complicated, not evil’ and ‘matter of perspective’
Maybe season 6 will finally give us the full story, being the season named “Star” after that arcanum…but I’m getting tired of being led on like this. I would guess a lot of you are too.
At least the one episode he was in (the last episode), he was his usual self. Still sassy and teasing, with an ominous undertone given the situation and everything.
First bit of activity in a while… I still don’t feel ready to continue this blog’s Ask activity, but I’m reblogging this here from one of my other blogs because what is said in that post (under all the other stuff) applies here too.
Except the stuff about him being in a different setting so his role in the show does not apply. Because here it does still apply, but I stick to my right to play and write him how I have been because of the research above.
My muse is complicated and not truly evil, just like the co-creator (Ehasz) said in these interviews. I also base aspects of his personality that probably won’t be in the show (romantic for one) on his Zodiac sign (Scorpio) which is another detail that went into building the characters according to the official website’s birthday trivia posts.
So for those new here, that’s my stance. If you want something less complicated and more just charmingly evil, there are other blogs that write him that way. But as far as I know from this research here, mine is not ooc in a way that is alien to what his canon self is like, so he’s still in-character even if it isn’t in the way the show has displayed lately.
Last warning: If you want to interact (when I feel ready to return to writing) with a complicated, but not truly evil (more grey really, and justified in his anger) Aaravos then feel free to stay. If not, you might want to find a different blog to interact with.
TL;DR: Nothing has changed on this blog, and here’s why. The post above is from one of my side blogs and is a series of interview excerpts and tweets about my muse. Those and Zodiac sign research are what I go off of for how I write him, which is not out of character based on that research. If you don’t like that, you won’t enjoy interacting with this blog.

RP: The Journey West
Aaravos, who was sitting across from Peccantum, looked up briefly from the soup he was eating.
“I have not eaten anything and had it make an impact on my hunger in three hundred years. This is making up for that as well as returning my strength to me.” He reminded the younger, though quietly to not be overheard, before returning to the bowl. Next to him was a considerable stack of dishes already practically licked clean. Thankfully the Archmage had slowed down some at this point, but he still was consuming the food as though he were a starving man…which they had discovered a bit ago on their journey West, he was.
Apparently, when he escaped his personal hell that was the prison the Dragon King sentenced him to, Aaravos’ three hundred years of not needing food or sleep was catching up to him. He had ignored it for a while…but after collapsing from a lack of energy or sleep a while ago, he knew he could ignore the needs of his body no longer. Which was why they were now sitting in the dining room of the pub in the town they found.
To everyone else, the two elves were a couple of traveling elves of a race other than Startouch. Aaravos was disguised as a Moonshadow, which were often given a respectful amount of space for their reputation and mannerism. The pub owner didn’t care what kind of elves they were, though (as long as they were not themselves, of course) as long as they could pay for the food and room Aaravos requested. Which they could…as far as the owner would know.
For now, though, the Archmage was not worrying about that…not when he was tasting food and drink he had been denied in his imprisonment. Not even his traveling companion and not-student would deter him.
Aaravos looked slightly amused at the insistence, but he did so. He showed where they were, then traced a line from there to around the Midnight Desert and to Lux Aurea.
“Once done there, we will go North a bit more, then make a sharp turn here where we will go off any road or path. Once at the Border, that is where I will show you the secret tunnel into the West.”
"I want to know what crossing you found from Xadia into the West." Peccantum frowned, tilting his head slightly as he looked up at Aaravos, "There's not many you know."
“Well it isn’t exactly knowledge I want the rest of Xadia to learn about.” Aaravos quirked a brow. “If you are captured and tortured, I want to keep some of my secret knowledge from them.”
“If they knew you were with me, who’s to say they wouldn’t make the connection?” Aaravos asked darkly.“Those that knew of me me knew my reputation…and as you are an elf who has used Dark Magic, they will assume you are the same.”
“If that were the case, why have you not heard about it then?” Aaravos quirked a brow. “They will have blocked it off by now, knowing them, and warned everyone of the humans’ attempt to penetrate our magical lands.”
"Cause it's not an option." Peccantum replied, pointing down to a specific area on the map, along the upper portion of the lava flow.
"It's called The Breach. And according to recent newsletters and rumors, the heads of Lux Aurea have sworn that they will make sure nothing invades from there ever again."
Aaravos went completely silent, staring at the place Peccantum was pointing at. The Archmage had also gone tense and his face was unreadable as he stared at the map.
“…are you certain the Sunfire elves are doing something about The Breach?” Aaravos asked, still not looking up. “Do you know if they have guards stationed there?”
"No. I haven't gone looking myself, but it was pretty big news...." At the time he'd actually been looking into where he eventually found Aaravos, "Why does it matter?"
“The only other ways are the Moonstone Path which is far too close to a Moonshadow elf settlement to be safe to pass, and the other is making our own way through which I cannot do on my own.” Aaravos’ voice was calm, but there was an edge to it. “And as you will not help me with it, that won’t work anyway.”
Aaravos didn’t answer. He didn’t even look up to glare at Peccantum.
“…if we take the Moonstone Path, we will take even longer to get to the West… We don’t have that kind of time…” He was mostly muttering to himself. “I could…but if someone sees…”
Aaravos paused again, frowning. He then slowly shook his head.
“No, not without the core source of their power: The Sun Staff. The light from it can reveal a person’s true self…or rather, it detects the ‘taint’ of Dark Magic on a person…“
“Fortunately, the Staff is kept in the throne room during court proceedings, and is carried by the guardian of the nexus…if we avoid both places-which are in the middle of our destination before the Boarder-then we will be alright. The Breach…is a different story. Unfortunately…we may have to stay in Lux Aurea for more than a day to learn more…”
“Lux Aurea…is a very wealthy city. It will take…a lot of money wherever we stay, even if we remain at the edges.” He frowned thoughtfully. “The spell we used before will not be enough to trick them. Yes, we will have to acquire true money. Which means either selling things, stealing it, or getting a job…all are also rather risky.”
"Getting a job wouldn't be viable if we're trying to seem non existent." Peccantum held up all three fingers, then put one down, crossing the option off the list, "We don't have a lot to sell... So that leaves...."
“I imagine it would be…but even magic can be detected in some situations. We cannot risk getting caught in Lux Aurea…so, we will have to stop in yet another town on the way and hope there are targets.”
Lyra hums to herself as she lays her charts out in front of her. She takes her carefully crafted astrolabe and begins the measurements to add to the charts.
Every star she looks for seems to shine brighter than the others, making it easier to narrow in on and measure. She dismisses this as the result of much practice.
Once she has the measurements she needs, she begins drawing out the charts and making notes of the constellations. After months of combing through the buried manuscripts at the back of the library, (she wants to be as comprehensive as possible in her notes, after all) Lyra finally found a book on the elven constellations, or... what she guesses is one. The language is not one she speaks, but she finds an illustration of a shape punctuated by drawings of stars and traces over it with her finger.
Looking up at the sky and through her notes, she cannot seem to find any stars that match the shape, and supposes that it may be a winter constellation. She looks down at it again, thinking she sees it shine in the moonlight, but a moment later it is gone. She shakes her head and begins packing up her tools for the night.
Lyra claps excitedly at the chance to talk about the sky. "it's the summer skies now. Four of the five wanderers are visible in the northwest sky, very nearly lined up. Low in the west the crescent. moon sits with the twin stars. The little bear and the wolf are playing with each other on the eastern bank of the river, which is very bright tonight. The scales sit in balance at the center of its arc."
[translation: the ancient astronomers called the planets we could see with the naked eye the wanderers, so she's saying there are four planets visible, almost in a line, which occured in the sky recently! The crescent moon is next to Castor and Pollux on the horizon. Ursa minor and Lupus are to the east of the milky way, and at the upper curve of the milky way is Libra. For the northern hemisphere, these are all summer constellations, and the milky way is visible in the summer, but I didn't overly concern myself with exact positioning.]
