Do you think Percy got abused as a child by Gabe? I think Percy got emotionally abused(maybe physically) Percy was constantly called a troubled kid by Gabe and his room was filled with Gabe's trash just imagine what message that sent to Percy

I am beyond certain that Gabe abused Percy - emotionally, psychologically, and physically. 

I imagine if Percy spilled something, Gabe would teach him “a lesson.” And Percy would show up at school with a black eye or bruises on his arms and legs which he would make jokes about. “Ha ha, I’m so stupid I walked into a door.” Gabe would convince him it was his fault in the first place. If Percy hadn’t “fucked up” Gabe wouldn’t have to come down so hard on him. And like you said, keeping trash in his bedroom made Percy feel right at home. 

It got to the point that Percy would flinch every time Gabe so much as sneezed. 

Sally tried to protect her baby boy, sure. But you can imagine he’s the kind of man who would hit a child would also hit his wife. Percy would try to protect her, but he was always small and always skinny and never stood a chance. Eventually Sally became complacent to protect her son. Keep Gabe happy, keep her son safe. 

Percy hated going home but only did because his mom was there. When his mom worked late, Percy would find any excuse to hang out in the city. Percy was angry a lot. He would throw rocks at cars, knock over flower pots, and set off fireworks in trash cans. He thought it would help with the pain, but it only made him feel empty. One night he got caught by the cops before he could spray paint the side of an abandoned building, but instead of taking him to the station, they brought him back to Gabe. Gabe “taught lessons” into the night. 

Percy knew nothing except for this kind of life so he expected nothing from it either.

I don’t want to imagine what kind of guy Percy would have turned into if he hadn’t found a family in Camp Half-Blood.

Its canon that Gabe physically abused Percy, Percy told us in the Lighting Thief 

"Meaning that if i told my mom he would punch my lights out" Chap 3. pag 31

Why does he know that? because he has experience that. Gabe had hit him so many times Percy knew what could happen if he said “no” to Gabe. Percy also hide it from Sally, just like Sally hide how Gabe hit her too (and probably more than hit)

Percy probably spent his whole childhood with Gabe telling him how useless and dumb he was to the point where Percy started believing it. You can see it when Calypso told him he was in love with him “I’m nothing especial”. Thats why it was so important that Annabeth told him “You are my friend” because for the first time someone told him that, someone choose to be his friend, someone choose him (Grover had to be his friend, it was mission, thankfully it work out with them being best friends but Annabeth was the first person to be his friend from their own will) 

And Percy is still having problems with his self esteem, you can see it in Mark of Athena when he tells you he feels he is walking on thin ice with Annabeth and how he still doesn’t get why she choose him.

Gabe’s words probably still haunts him but he is finally getting free from, slowly.

Once, Peter asked Jessica what she all knew about her Mother, tears instantly started streaming down her face. "Sh-She hit me and kicked me like I was a rag doll," She said, staring off into the distance, "She would tell me it was my fault that Jupiter. Theo would try and protect me but he couldn't do much..." Peter patted her shoulder. "Theo was basically my Parent-figure. He still is, Jupiter treats me like a rag doll too. I've been a rag doll all my life, Peter. You have no idea." Slowly she rolled up the sleeves of her jacket, revealing cuts and scars up her pale arms.
