Welcome to askodile, an ask blog for Odile from In Stars and Time. It follows Odile with a strange journal she found that will ask her questions. Answers directly from Odile are written in said journal, but occasionally conversations happening around her will be picked up as well. Events do not occur in real time.

It is the day before the party is to ascend the House of Change and defeat the King. Time has skipped back, and at the center of it all seems to be the untimely death of Siffrin. Odile does not remember what happened before time reset, but the journal and the mysterious askers within do.

Some commonly used tags:

#askodile: in character posts (chronological)

#askodile plot: in character posts that are more "plot heavy," intended to aid in catching up with the plot without having to read every single post (chronological)

#ooc: "out of character," any post that is not in character or part of the story

#answered: answered asks, including any ooc answers

#bracketed text: occasionally, someone else will address the askers with strange bracketed text... Odile cannot hear this

#isat: occasionally we'll maintag answers we find well done or important, we will not post every answer in the isat tag in order to avoid spam

This blog gets a lot of asks. Occasionally they will be turned off, but if they are on, you are free to ask what you desire. Please note that not every ask will be answered, however. If you're curious about where your ask has gone, here are some common reasons why they may not be answered:

They are being saved for later and/or the admins are busy

There aren't any interesting replies to the ask that have been thought of (yet?)

The question has been asked before or there are multiple similar questions in the ask box

The question is referring to something that happened previously in this blog's lifespan that would either be awkward to round back to or not make sense anymore

The question is asking something a bit too heavy or forward (if you have not been blocked for your question, it's not something you can't ask at all, but it may just not suit the current moment)

The question gives Odile access to information the mods do not want her to have yet for pacing reasons, or gives her slightly inaccurate information that she wouldn't know is inaccurate (it's hard to distinguish for the readers what is canon and what is not in this situation).

There are 50 other questions in the ask box, and responses take time

Don't let this list discourage you from sending an ask that may fall under these categories, we've mostly included this to discourage spam in the form of people repeatedly sending their already sent asks assuming they didn't go through or asking where their ask went.

If Odile takes one of your asks in somewhat bad faith and you did not mean to offend her, know that the mods are aware of this and most likely had her react the way she did for intrigue/character building/etc. Follow up apologies will likely not be answered for one of the reasons previously listed, but you're free to send one (1) just in case it is something we feel like having her answer. Just refrain from sending multiple, if you want to get back on her "good side," simply send something else.

(You walk back to where Mirabelle and Isabeau are waiting for you.)

(Siffrin hides behind you, which is... unusual of them.)

(Usually he just uses his cloak and hat.)

(You put down the journal.)

(Siffrin is obviously acting off, but you suspect Isabeau has a better idea of how, exactly, they're feeling.)

(He's always been better at reading them.)

(You nod, and you all start walking to the eastern end of Dormont.)

(Isabeau walks up next to you.)

(You're a bit hesitant to hand it over, but you oblige.)

(Isabeau suddenly offers the journal back to Mirabelle, and you instinctively flinch.)

(You're fine with her trying to read it as well, but...)

(Mirabelle's eyebrows raise as she opens the journal.)

(Siffrin barely glances at the book before replying)

you dont have to have odile or loop respond to this I just wanted to share my general theory about what's going on from siffrin perspective

so what we know is that from siffrin perspective

went to talk to odile somewhere presumably in act 3 due to his fake smile

he then got surprised by the fact that she was paying attention to a notebook and not him (her sprites were different then normal)

which made him go down the "anything weird happened" conversation path

they then saw the book and the rest of the conversation went as shown before leaving

where they then immediately committed suicide via banna which odile saw forcing a loop

theirs a lot of reasons siffrin could've done this, but based on loop going "[Stars, of course she'd come out early. What was I even thinking?]" I'm gonna assume that loop wasn't the one to suggest this action and presumably siffrin did this to loop back and check if this was an consistent element of the loop or not, as seen by the actions he takes immediately after looping (checking up on odile)

after doing this they leave to talk to loop

where they presumably learnt about the notebook from loop, and got an explanation on everything happening which can be assumed by

siffrin-in odile words-where not surprised that she was there and considering loop seems to have information on everything we say and do they presumably warned siffrin of odile coming

they also left before odile saw them which is more proof of that

the conversation went normally with siffrin lying and odile becoming suspicous

but this set of scenarios leaves some questions

why didn't siffrin loop back instantly?

if siffrin fell from the banna he shouldve looped back the instant he died but he didnt, he looped back when odile saw him die and panicked

and the only way that makes sense to me at least is that both siffrin and odile have to die to loop back now

but thats just a theory

(you've made at least one incorrect leap here that's directly contradictory to what we're trying to imply, but these are all generally pretty good observations of what's going on. we appreciate seeing people's analysis!)

Just... Remove the banana peel before Siffrin can get to it

(As you walk to the Favor Tree, you take a peek in the journal to see if there is any other important information you can find in there before you confront Siffrin...)

(You were told previously about Siffrin tripping off of a small cliff, but you've read nothing about a banana peel. And even then, you are still receiving messages like...)

(As much as you find the messages from this Il Dottore charming, they do seem to be quite misinformed about things fairly often.)

(Occasionally they seem even actively malicious, so it's not a stretch that some may be intentionally trying to mislead you.)

(From where you currently stand, confronting Siffrin directly seems to be the most reliable way to keep them safe.)

(I just edited the pinned post again to state this, but I'd like to reiterate it here because I know people who have already read the pinned post likely won't randomly decide to read it again.

The list of reasons why your ask may not be answered is not necessarily meant to discourage you from sending asks that could potentially be in one of those categories, but to discourage spam in the form of asks about when specific questions will be answered or the same ask being sent multiple times because it has been assumed that it didn't send just because it wasn't answered. If you have other reasons to believe that your ask didn't go through, feel free to send it again.)

(OOC: Will the blog continue? Is there a real-life interruption in the way, or a scarcity of good questions?)

(Next post is planned to be without an ask, so no worries there. Considering our inbox has 72 questions at the moment, I think there'll always be something. Holidays have just been busy. We've also been floating the idea of making some fully original/editable talksprites due to the acquisition of a new drawing tablet, but I doubt that'll happen before the next post.)

If time travel is happening, then we need to stop Siffrin from going out the same way, right? Covering the ground outside in flour bags may cushion it enough to prevent a fall from being fatal. Then you can confront them about what happened. Just a suggestion.

(You frown and close the book, putting it safely into your bag. Apparently it is just assumed to be yours, no need to have another awkward conversation with the shopkeeper.)

(You leave the shop and look around Dormont. The small cliff behind the shop is free of any Siffrins, and so you're not quite sure where you'd find them...)
