[8/15/13 10:04:25 PM] D C: rock claims he doesnt really know because it's not like he ever had a father figure. battle had one, who ditched him, and he became clingy in a sense and yearns for approval he never received. nataku had mentors who were like father figures to him, and meilan's father was like a father of his own initially. they were rather strict (and safe) men, and his entire personality clashes with them horribly. he's never been one for male authority figures in his life, so that extends further into his ties with rock and luther as well.

[8/15/13 10:06:13 PM] D C: and rock just... had no structure at all. he had an older brother figure who shirked responsibilities or opportunities to improve. he grew up with a pretty strong feeling that he didnt want to be anything of the sort, but he never loathed silver to such an extent. he had some figures in the older knights but since war was going on, there wasnt much to learn on the emotional scale for dealing with other men- especially men you're supposed to look up to.

[8/15/13 10:08:10 PM] D C: so in the end, he's always had an easier time dealing with women/femmes and having a softer disposition towards them. when it comes to men/mech, he's never ever had any real influences of what his behavior should be. the masses act chummy, and he can manage that, but when it comes down to real interaction or knowing what to do, he's got his own absence to fill and isnt sure how to fill others for it.
