Which person... left first? Who passed away before everyone else? Who broke down? What were the reactions? I had this thought and now I'm crying. I want to know what happened.

Aang's lips pressed into a thin, hard line as the temperature seemed to drop a few degrees and the sky darkened slightly.

"I was the first," he muttered, dropping his gaze and crossing his arms unconsciously. "It was... hard." He sighed. "For everyone. Lots of unfinished business. Things left unsaid. It was sudden, as these things go. As if my body just up and decided it was time to shut down."

"I didn't get to say all the goodbyes I should've. Maybe that's a good thing. The few I did were... painful at best." Aang winced at the thought. "I'm sorry. I can't get into the details of it all right now."

If he did, he'd have to unwrap all the gritty memories it had taken so long to keep suppressed in the first place, strapped tightly to a corner on the back of his mind yet always struggling to escape.

And he couldn't let them. They would drive him mad.

Ask six year old Aang: Hiya Aang! What would you do if YOU were the new Air Nomad Avatar?

Aang looked up and tilted his head curiously at the greyface, not knowing what to make of him but not wanting to seem impolite either. So, the young airbender smiled and did a almost-perfect little bow like Gyatso was always reminding him to do.

"Me? The Avatar?" He scratched his head, wrinkling his eyebrows. "But I'm just a kid! Can't even get this stupid marble trick right." Aang shook his head, grumbling a little before quickly brightening up again.

"But if I were the Avatar," he recited solemnly, remembering what he'd told his class in school yesterday for his end-of-term homework. All the young airbenders had been asked the same question.

"If I were the Avatar, I'd remind all the people everywhere that we should all love each other and take time to play and eat sweets and fly! I would go around on my glider around the world and give everyone a hug and maybe even a ride on Appa if they're nice, and I would be able to do it because Avatars can master ALL the elements and they're the greatest benders EVER!"

Aang said all of this in one breath and was so excited by the end that he spun up into the air, the wind whooshing around him as he landed softly a few moments later.

"But y'know, I don't think I'd wanna be the Avatar really," he admitted. "They have to take care of everyone and everything and that's kinda scary."
