hello, friends! this post is for all my fellow gifmakers who use ffmpeg to recode .mkv files into .mp4 files! the normal ffmpeg process is quite slow and heavy on your cpu, so I am going to provide the command I use to speed things up.

✓ — speeds up the recode speed from approx 0.3x to 1.8-1.9x. ✓ — uses the fastest codec available. ✓ — strips the .mkv file of audio, so you are not wasting time recoding the audio as well as the video.

cmd:

ffmpeg -i input.mkv -codec:v libx264 -preset ultrafast -force_key_frames "expr:gte(t,n_forced*4)" -hls_time 4 -hls_playlist_type vod -hls_segment_type mpegts -an output.mp4

to use this command, simply copy/paste it into your command prompt, and change the names of the files to the files you are working with. it works only if you have the input file (.mkv) in the same directory as your ffmpeg.exe. so, for instance, if you pull both ffmpeg.exe and input.mkv onto the desktop, the above code should work.

otherwise, you will have to copy the file path of your .mkv file, and it must be on your local computer (not cloud) for ffmpeg to be able to find it.

I can’t even imagine having to search for work in this current job market and have your snap taken from you. I hope they’ll implement the contingency funds soon but in the meantime - when I was near homeless and homeless, I relied a lot on dry beans (you can get a bag with over 100 servings for around $10), brown rice, and local vegetables. see if there are any community gardens near you! I was able to get fresh vegetables for free for awhile when I lived near one. It’s terrible this is happening in the richest country in the world. please take care of yourself and your friends as much as possible ❤️

april was tortured poets department month so this is a month or two overdue. but i was inspired to create a doc perfect for writer characters! ink spills and coffee stains, isn't it a little reminiscent of colder months even if it's nearing summer? it's cozy, beige, and was utterly lovely to create.
