Challenging and Transforming the Legacy of House Stark

As a member of House Stark, Jon has to confront the painful legacy of his Stark ancestors, who oppressed and persecuted the Wildlings for generations. During his time spent with the Wildlings, Jon Snow undergoes a profound transformation. Immersed in their culture and experiencing their struggles firsthand, he develops a newfound understanding and empathy towards them.

Jon becomes an agent of change, breaking the cycle of oppression and striving for a more inclusive and united North. His actions challenge the Stark legacy and open the door to a future where the differences between the people of the North can be bridged and a lasting peace can be achieved.

The song "The Last of the Giants" beautifully captures the evolution of Jon Snow as he embarks on a transformative journey of understanding and protecting the Free Folk.

Jon's commitment to the Free Folk reaches its peak as he bravely intervenes to protect Wun Wun from harm. This act of selflessness exemplifies Jon's growth and his willingness to challenge societal norms to protect those he has come to understand and cherish.

The last verse of the song raises a thought-provoking question: Will the singing fade once the giants are gone? However, considering Jon's role in changing the course of events, it is possible that the song will not fade. In fact, the final verse may symbolize Jon himself as the giant whose legacy and impact will endure beyond his physical existence. His actions and the changes he has brought about may ensure that the song of his deeds continues to resonate, defying the fading of the giants' presence.

Jon Snow knows nothing about his mother. But even without knowing, his closest sibling has always been the one person ( aka Arya) who resembles his mother, both in appearance and in character.

Which makes me think that had he know Lyanna he would absolutely adore her.

The soul mating of Dany and Jon both dreaming of fighting the others:

Jon believing his baby brothers are still dead hurts me:

Bran and Rickon had been murdered too, beheaded at the behest of Theon Greyjoy, who had once been their lord father's ward … but if dreams did not lie, their direwolves had escaped. At Queenscrown, one had come out of the darkness to save Jon's life. Summer, it had to be. His fur was grey, and Shaggydog is black. He wondered if some part of his dead brothers lived on inside their wolves.

But at least he's hoping that a part of them lives in their direwolves. Which is a foreshadowing on what will happen to him when he'll die before his eventual resurrection.

Mormont's raven watched with shrewd black eyes, then fluttered to the window. "Do you take me for your thrall?" When Jon folded back the window with its thick diamond-shaped panes of yellow glass, the chill of the morning hit him in the face. He took a breath to clear away the cobwebs of the night as the raven flapped away.

"Do you take me for your thrall?" asks Jon as he indeed acts as the raven's servant.

I really love when Jon meets dumb irritating characters on his pov because of wry commentary.

One fine example is Jon encountering Ser Godry on his first chapter in ADWD.

As he strode past them, a booming voice called after him. "BOY! YOU THERE! BOY!"

Boy was not the worst of the things that Jon Snow had been called since being chosen lord commander. He ignored it.

"Snow," the voice insisted, "Lord Commander."

This time he stopped. "Ser?"

First of all, it's very cunty of Jon not to stop when the other man calls him "boy".

This is Jon ignoring all those who call him disrespectful names:

(and on a more serious note, if the Lord Commander accepted to be called " boy" then even his own men would start to disrespect him).

How well, though?" Ser Godry drew his own blade. "Show us. I promise not to hurt you, lad."

How kind of you. "Some other time, ser. I fear that I have other duties just now."

This is the commentary of someone who has pictured beating Ser Godry at least a couple of times in his head. Also, Jon definitely doesn't think that this man can hurt him.

You fear. I see that." Ser Godry grinned at his friends. "He fears," he repeated, for the slow ones.

Here Jon implies that this fellow, Ser Godry, is the slow one.

"You will excuse me." Jon showed them his back.

And Jon exits the scene like the bad bitch he is.

I'm glad that Melisandre warned Jon Snow as early as his first adwd chapter about the "daggers in the dark", however she really did a poor job trying to convince him to listen to her. As soon as they are alone outside of Stannis' room and in public she slips her arms through his:

As they stepped out into the yard, the wind filled Jon's cloak and sent it flapping against her. The red priestess brushed the black wool aside and slipped her arm through his

I know that Melisandre doesn't care about -other people's - personal space but what made her think it was a good idea to link arms with the Lord Commander of a celibate order in public? How is that gonna reflect on Jon, aka the person she wants to advise. And is he really gonna listen to her when he feels uncomfortable due to her proximity? After all, half of his attention is, as he admits, on how his men are gonna perceive this scene:

Jon could feel her heat, even through his wool and boiled leather. The sight of them arm in arm was drawing curious looks. They will be whispering in the barracks tonight. "If you can truly see the morrow in your flames, tell me when and where the next wildling attack will come." He slipped his arm free.

Also, why did she used Ygritte's words to Jon? What was she expecting to gain? Jon's trust because apparently she does know some things since she knew the words Ygritte frequently used? Because most people would simply feel creeped out by such an action.

I know Mel that you have good intentions when you warm Jon of danger but girl you need to work on your methods.

Usually I write about Jon's good points as a leader, so today I decided to write about some small mistakes he makes in ADWD JON I. Martin is a great writer because the first time you read Jon's chapter you pay no attention to those little flaws. It's only after knowing how his ADWD arc ends that you realise that the writer had planted the seeds for night watch betraying Jon even since the first pov chapter of his.

Jon doesn't act as the typical Lord Commander. He sleeps in the forge instead of the room of the previous Lord Commander and he rejects having a bodyguard following him.

We get to see Jon's thoughts in his pov, so his actions make sense to us. However, his black brothers don't have the same luxury as us, so for some of them, Jon is a green boy who wasn't ready to become commander.

It doesn't help that Jon simply ignores the southern lords who insult him by calling him "boy". We know that Jon doesn't want to show off and therefore he finds pointless to spar with ser Godry when the latter provokes him, but letting the knight insult him in front of his men without reacting doesn't do him any favors.

And it makes sense why Jon out of all people would tolerate such behavior in his castle. Because he wasn't born with the class privilege to expect that one day he would lead and order others. He was born with the bastard stigma and all his life he tolerated being insulted because of it.

With that being said, I need to state here that I do believe that Jon is doing a good job being elected as the Lord Commander during probably the most difficult era in Night's Watch history. But I also believe that Martin made Jon's ( and Dany's) ADWD arc about ruling so they could learn how to be effective leaders. No one is born ready to rule, no matter how great leadership qualities they may possess ( and Jon and Dany do have great leadership skills). So, I think it's very clever of Martin to also show his shortcomings as a teenage leader because once he'll return to a position of power in the next book(s), he will have both experience and knowledge from past mistakes to do better.

I’m so excited for Jon’s resurrection in TWOW like I need it neowwww!

I’m 100% confident that Melisandre will be the one to help with Jon’s resurrection! Especially in ADWD where she got those visions of him dying and warning him of the danger to come (she’s so his Cassandra).

I think that sometime during TWOW, Melisandre will get another vision where she convinces herself that Jon was actually the Azor Ahai and not Stannis (depending what point this is at in the story, and if Stannis dies: I feel like this would exemplify Melisandre’s feeling about it). Especially since we already saw when she wants to see Azor Ahai, R’hllor only shows her snow.

But then this leads me curious to how she will end up resurrecting Jon. Obviously it would be through fire, but I’m really curious if Jon will be resurrected using a sacrifice. My bets would either be that she sacrifices herself to revive Jon, or Shireen!

But I also think how Jon comes back after resurrection is also something I’m so excited for. There’s alot of implications throughout the story that Jon has warged into ghost post death, especially Melisandre seeing Jon going from man to wolf to man again in one of her visions. So when he comes back he’ll definitely be more wolfish. Although I kind of dislike the idea that he’ll be feral, since I feel like his wolfish would be more reflective of ghost, and I wouldn’t really classify ghost as feral by any means.

I think a lot of Jon’s post resurrection is really based on how long he was dead for, and because we don’t know that it’s hard to speculate. We can see from Catelyn’s resurrection that how a body was kept while it was dead is also important to how they come back, appearance wise.

I think how Jon looks when he comes back is something surprisingly highly debated, which I find kind of fun. I’m personally banking on him getting some form of red eyes (from ghost, or from the R’hllor resurrection). Depending how long he was left out on the snow, I could also see him maybe having frostbite.
