I just completed my Solaris mini-obsession! I read Stanislaw Lem's book for the first time, watched the 1972 film adaptation, and re-watched the 2002 film adaptation.

The book lost me at times, but I think that was the point. The atmospheric quality of moving through the pages was like a dream plucked from someone else's mind and deposited into my own. The vague ending was satisfying. I give it 7/10.

Tarkovsky's adaptation was wild and strange. Definitely a bit too long, but truly beautiful. The added bits about Kelvin's family were interesting, and I especially loved staring at the ocean.

My second viewing of Soderbergh's adaptation was just as amazing as the first time. Now that I understand the original work, I'm disappointed this version didn't emphasize the role of the ocean, bestowing the abilities to the planet itself. The twist regarding a certain colleague was brilliant. This ending I like the least, however.

So now I'm thinking about a new adaptation! It's not necessary, of course. It's barely been more than 20 years since the Clooney version, and there are plenty of new ideas out there to bring to a screen. But all the same, my brain grabbed hold of Ethan Peck as Kelvin and Florence Pugh as Rheya. Just imagine! I would like it to be even trippier than the previous two. More of the ocean, more of the structures made by the ocean!

I also had an idea that Florence plays Kelvin and Ethan plays the lost love back from the dead.

Anyway, final comment: I really love scifi!
