Getting a weird little hobby is actually so important bc it opens your eyes up to the world. You start crocheting or knitting, and now you see scarves and sweaters differently. You try identifying plants, now you’re seeing opposite and alternate leaf pattern. Bird watching? Every chirp draws attention and interest.

Get into weird little hobbies.

for anyone unsure of why an ASL (or other sign language) interpretation of a movie is important there are a 2 main reasons

many Deaf people are not native speakers of English. reading captions means reading a foreign language. Deaf people whose native language isn't English deserve equal access to media and captions are not true equal access.

Deaf literacy rates are incredibly low due to improper and inadequate teaching. 1/5 of Deaf students graduating from highschool have a literacy rate at or below 2nd grade. this makes reading captions difficult for many of us.

an obviously stolen copy of this crossed my dash last week, and i wanted to reblog the real thing. tracking down an image that originates in social media is a bit of hassle, but i am the citation fairy (sort of), and this is her quest. and she had to do whatever it took on this one. that only turned out to be less than 10 minutes, but she was prepared to put in a few hours. the hogfather lit the spark of her creation, and this is his night.
