Unpopular opinion: i agree with the fans on tiktok saying that we should not accept incestuous relationships as romantic just because the story itself support that they are love stories, as the author himself says.

We should also support the idea that if we can't tolerate incest or age gap and the canonical romanticization of it inside this book serie we shouldn't be on this fandom at all. Daenerys and Jon are the main characters and one is born because a couple of incestuos sibilings went against the whole world to be together and imposed incest on Daenerys's parents and the other is born from THE biggest love story in the book among a 14 year old and an over 20 years old father of 2 kids prince.

That is not the kind of story you should or would read about if you are against age gap or incest. IT IS JUST HOW IT IS. Even the next main couple, Jonerys/Snowstorm, will infact be incestuos and if GRRM decide to stay faithfull to Jonrya we will have age gap and incest IN.THE.SAME.COUPLE. Deal with it. You can dislike it as much as you want, your prerogative, but you cant reject canon without reject the books themselves and you cant blame other fans to call romantic a couple/scene that is meant to be romantic just because you dislike it.

i really enjoy the interpretation that the moon in jon’s wolf dream at the start of ADWD is meant to represent arya—death—already calling to him. it feels like the book is telling us, from the very first chapter, what jon’s arc will be: his immense love for arya ultimately leading him to his death.

the moon, whom nymeria is singing to during the dream, tries to draw his attention by running with him, murmuring to him, then almost screaming, growing more and more insisting. the chapter starts with ghost remembering his pack, juxtaposed with jon remembering all his siblings in his final chapter before deciding to desert out of love for arya. but ghost still turns away from the moon and tries to run toward the sun, toward life itself. it’s as if some instinct in him understands that following the moon is not the path he should take, that following her will mean his death. and yet how could he not follow? arya is his heart and you can’t live without your heart.

then mormont’s raven wakes him, who is most likely bloodraven, urging him toward duty, toward the greater war, toward defeating the others. he doesn’t care if some girl jon once knew might be in danger. and so the lord commander of the night’s watch wakes up to do his duty.

jon spends the entire book trying to choose duty over love, trying to be the lord commander instead of the brother. but in the end, his love for arya wins. love is the death of duty. and he dies as a result, leaving castle black in chaos when they were meant to be strong, prepared and united against the others, not distracted by petty infighting.

the dream, much like cersei’s at the start of her first chapter in AFFC, is telling us where the story is headed.

The play director/writer collaborating closely with GRRM is evident in the director pointing out - without even being asked - that Lyanna has a lot in common with Arya Stark...

Which is no doubt the result of GRRM mentioning that to director Cooke at least a hundred times over the phone and it's now embedded in his brain 😭😭😭
