i’m just so sick of holding up a yardstick of like. What Important Literature Is to my writing process because it doesn’t do shit to help me. i’ve been struggling with the fact that i am empowered (in the literal sense not in like a social justice way) by outlining, usually with an outline that someone else has come up with (the last novel I finished and one of my favorite things i’ve ever written followed the Romancing The Beat structure, it was so much fun). but even though that has gotten me more activity and fun and creativity than trying to rawdog the process ever has barring a few exceptions, there’s this voice in my head now that’s like “well if you’re writing stories to some standardized format then are you really being creative? couldn’t we argue that you’re actually a lazy cheap useless hack who believes in outdated western eurocentric imperialist notions of story and that’s why you can’t innovate your own structure in order to write something that might actually be of value to the world?” and it’s like. it’s not that deep but also what if writing a story with a structure actually makes me a lazy useless imperialist hack. what if im saying it’s not that deep is just me trying to shift responsibility. and meanwhile my inner child is screaming its head off because it just wants to play with dolls and write stories.
