new rule if a debate can be boiled down to one side saying "you should care about other people" that side is right fullstop we are only allowed debates now to figure out how to best to care about other people dont ever come to my ted talks again
happy 4th of july! consider donating to Black and indigenous individuals or charities today. yesterday (july 3rd 2020)Â multiple protestors were arrested while blocking road access to mt rushmore, a monument that was made by stealing and defacing sacred land belonging to the Lakota people. you can donate to the Black Hills Bail and Legal Defense Fund here.

This is also an excellent example of providing breed-adequate enrichment, because Border Collies are herding dogs. They were bred to run a lot and do multiple quick and sharp turns, so if you canât provide your collie with an actual herd of animals to⊠well⊠herd, an obstacle course like this is a great alternative. That dog is having the time of her life.
one of the worst myths perpetuated in fiction i think is the idea that teenagers get angry and hate their parents for no real reason. it's one of the endless ways older folks trivialize the real hurt and frustration and pain that teenagers experience - which, with no small amount of irony, can come from that very kind of trivialization.
when i was an angry and hormonal teenager, i was taught i was having a rebellious phase. my mother taught me i was being disrespectful to her. media taught me it was a product of being an irrational teenager. but when that shit didn't fade as i grew up, when i grew even more bitter towards her, i started learning that it was actually a completely rational response to the literal years of abuse from her. i wasn't just angry, i was traumatized. still am.
and to this day, I've never met a teenager who is "irrationally" hateful towards their parents. and maybe that's a product of not knowing any entitled rich kids, but my point stands. teenagers are real people with real emotions, which don't come out of nowhere or exist for no reason. teenage anger and pain may be harder for them to express or control, but its existence is not irrational. and i HATE every depiction of the irrational, parent hating teenager in media who opposes all adults just because they are teenagers, rather than because of any of the very real reasons teenagers have to be angry and hurt.
âDonât call Trump supporters nazis, it hurts their feelings.â
Yes, this is real (link to tweet). Yes, Tucker Carlson is literally repeating Nazi propaganda that aided the genocide of the Romani during the Holocaust. Yes, I am furious.Â
(Also, although there is a large population of Romani in Romania, they arenât indigenous to Romania. Theyâre a diasporic group originally from northern India.)
Romani and Jewish have been screaming at the top of their lungs for years about neo-fascism in Europe, and Americans were totally aloof.
Then neo-fascism reared its head in America, but Roma and Jews were left out of the conversation in terms of people being impacted, because our oppression was âover.â
Now Tucker Carlson is on live TV using slurs and Nazi propaganda about Romani people, and Iâm 90% most people on the left are just going to ignore it.
Itâs fucking starting y'all. Itâs happening again.
If youâre not Jewish or Roma PLEASE BOOST THIS.
why none of them got into The Good Place
What I love about this is its acknowledgment that Jason had no intentions at all
this is all 100% true but it always made me really mad that Chidiâs âcrimeâ was having a severe anxiety disorder like he needed understanding and therapy, sending him to the Bad Place for something he had literally no control over was incredibly fucked up
I feel like a less-surface theme of the show is that theyâre all in a situation where they have been forced into bad patterns by forces outside their control - Chidi has SEVERE anxiety; Eleanor was forced by abuse and neglect to adopt a self-centered attitude from early childhood and, like many people with traumatic pasts, responds by not dealing with difficult emotions; Jason was very overtly raised in an environment where he got no education and all his models for behaviour were criminal and/or self-destructive; and Tahani has been raised in an environment where everything is performative and she is shot down for any genuine expression of unhappiness or non-material want. Just as Michael and Janet are made one way but changed by their experiences, the moral of the story is that things outside your control shape you but you can move away from them. That could easily be really insulting, in a sort of âjust get over itâ way, but the idea isnât that they change solely because they decide to be better - all six of them change because their circumstances change and give them the OPPORTUNITY to be better, because theyâre finally given the support system they lack.
I like The Good Place because the whole show has since day 1 been predicated on the idea that black and white moral judgements made in a vacuum are bullshit, and that moral choices are informed by things outside our control, whether that be education, behaviour modelling, unfair treatment or mental health issues. That doesnât mean we arenât responsible for our actions but it DOES mean we have to understand morality in the context of peopleâs varied experiences AND asks for the possibility that if their environment is improved, their ability to function as moral agents also improves.
Knives Out (2019)
still laughing at this
There was more
I would like to include a lady friend (played by perhaps Joanna Lumley) who, despite being much younger, is assumed by the gentlemenâs family members to be the object of their affections/cause for rivalry. Ian and Patrick view her as a well-meaning busybody, while she is acting as wingman for both of them to get together.
Sheâs actually married to her college sweetheart who is a CEO for a company based in London. The executive could be played by Nina Baden-Semper.Â
Iâm gonna toss in here a recurring guest star role for Marina Siritis playing Patrickâs neice who pops in and out and occasionally fussed at them but in a very indulgent way
Can @wilwheaton have a role as the neighbor who hells them with their tech and also has a total black thumb? And brings over his dead plants for help? Patrick goes out and buys a new plant and plants it in the same pot, like a kid whose goldfish keeps dying and getting replaced.
