‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ The Days at Misaki Café☽༓*˚⁺‧͙
You were returning after a long day at the Bodmer Library, a little away from your home in Geneva, but you loved going there on weekends. It was just 8 pm, not too late, and you were craving caramel macchiato. So you decided to stop by at the Café near your home. The Misaki Café. You went there almost daily. It was nestled in the quiter part of Geneva, from where one could easily see the Swiss Alps. But that wasn't the only reason you loved it.
There was a certain barista, with blue eyes, snowy hair and a soft smile, who made your coffee just perfect and your heart flutter..
As you entered, the bell chimed softly. The cozy Café was quiet as usual, filled with the delicious scent of coffee and baked goodies
"Welcome- oh, it's you~" Satoru smiled softly, pushing his glasses upwards, putting down his aerospace engineering textbook. "Your usual caramel macchiato?"
"Yeah~" You smiled back, looking at his textbook, scribbled with notes. He was studying particle accelerators.. "Particle accelerators huh? Studying for exam?"
"Yeah, I've got one tomorrow. They're driving me insane. I hardly understand a thing about them.." He said while pouring the coffee in milk.
"I can help you if you'd like.." You offered him as he handed you the cup, looking genuinely relieved at your offer.
"Oh my god, you're godsent! My brain was fried trying to understand them" He immediately removed his apron, handing you the book as you both sat at the window-side table.
"Mhm, I see.. Nothing difficult, you will be an expert at it before midnight" And that was true, by midnight he had mastered the topic with your help in just 4 hours..
"Damn! That's actually crazy! How do you know so much about them though? I know you're doing PhD in astrophysics, but aerospace engineering is a totally different branch.." He closed his textbook, genuinely curious about your in depth understanding about a field not so related to yours. He knew about your field since you were a usual, and you both have small talks about random stuff everyday.
"Well, I have been working a lot with them.. I'm working at CERN on serenium. Trying to further expand my research on it.. It's kinda hard to manage a whole startup, research and get my phd done, but i just gotta manage it.." You said it so casually, as if you weren't that infamous mysterious scientist who just discovered the only particle to react with antimatter without causing an explosion and made all the scientists in the world go crazy. His jaw dropped at your matter-of-factly tone. Not ego, just a statement because you did it.
"Wait- waitwaitwait- THAT'S YOU!? and- oh my god- you're the one? The mysterious scientist?" His jaw dropped, looking flabbergasted at the fact that you weren't just a scientist but also a businesswoman? At such a young age? That made him admire you even more
"You cannot just leave me hanging like that! Pleasepleaseplease tell me about it, why you kept it a secret, what is this startup you just talked about, and where are you getting your PhD from.." Satoru gave you those pleading puppy eyes, well because just like you, he had that curiousity gene too. Every scientist does.
You laughed softly at his infectious excitement.. "Okay okay, I'll tell you. Just promise me you won't tell anyone else."
"I promise!" His eyes we're sparkling so much, as if he'd worship you any moment.
"Good~ okay, so first about keeping my identity secretive. I just really like the peace of doing something I love without the world constantly coming in between. Yes they know my name, but as long as they don't know my face or anything more about me, I'll have my peace of doing something I love. Second, the startup is IdeaGlobal, a website where students with research ideas can connect with professors from big universities accross the world to carry an authentic research as well as get credits for it. I did it because I had a hard time trying to find a professor to work with me on my research myself. Third, I'm doing the MIST programme of MIT and doing my PhD abroad from here because to be honest, not only is CERN amazing for my research, but also because I love the Swiss Alps.."
By the time you har finished, Satoru was looking at you ad if you'd hung the moon and stars, as if you were his hero and idol. The admiration was shining thoroughly in his eyes. You were just 2 years older than him. Just 25,yet you had achieved so many things..
"You're- you're insane.. Do you realize you fucking cool you are?" He asked with that wide boyish grin. "I never knew the beautiful girl coming everyday is a great sci-" He stopped, realizing he slipped up and called you beautiful.. "O-oh w-wait- I'm s-sorry.. Just a slip up!" He chuckled nervously "I mean yeah you're beautiful but I didn't mean to-" He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, blushing head to toe
"No need to be shy now~ if anything, I'm rather flattered by the compliment.. It's not always someone really admires me for both my brains and beauty~" Your smile made him calm down a little..
"Hey, I was thinking.. Maybe, we can talk about space and stuff again.. Maybe- this weekend? I'd love to know more about your work, and you.." Satoru asked softly, hoping you'd agree..
"Of course~ let's meet this weekend.. Right here, at 8 pm.."
Satoru dropped you back home because it was 2 am by then. And the next day, his exam went pretty well, though he kept thinking about you. Admiring your success and your humility. How you wanted to do something because you loved it, not for the world to see..
That weekend on Sunday, you both met again at the Misaki Cafe. He told you that he was Japanese, living here with his aunt and cousin Yu Haibara. His aunt owned the cafe, and let him stay in exchange for working here since she was getting older, Yu was still in high school and the previous barista quit because she got married.
You too told him how growing up you were always expected to be the grown up, the one who handled your parents' pressure, looked after your younger sister, and were basically the man of the house, and that thing helped you to work under pressure and handle even the shittiest situations with calm.
And soon, that one weekend turned to every other weekend. And every other weeked turned to everyday. You'd come daily at 8 pm, when there was no rush and the cafe would close within half an hour. He'd brew caramel macchiato for both of you, then sitting by your usual window-side table, you both would talk about so many things. He'd tell you how he was obsessed with rockets as a child, you'd tell him how you could never fall asleep without seeing stars. You both even discussed about serenium, working on it together sometimes. You'd show him the heartfelt thank you emails you'd get from students who got accepted to big universities and Ivy Leagues through your website, and he'd tell you about the little kids who would come to buy sweets, and about the cool machines he was working with and learning how to actually build rockets.
And before you both realized it, it had me 8 months of this routine. He was going to finish his masters, and you were also going to get your doctorate after 2 months.
One day, you were left stranded outside the Bodmer library, it had closed and besides it was raining heavily. You were cursing your fate. It was 11 pm, with no vehicle in site and your phone had just 5% battery.
"God dammit.. " You cursed under your breath, rubbing your hands together because you were cold.. Just as you were about to lose hope and walk all the way back in rain, you felt a familiar voice say your name softly and warmly..
"What are you doing here..?" Satoru asked, approaching you, holding a bag full of baking stuff
"Toru.." You whispered his name, hugging him and melting in his arms, relieved that he was here, always finding you at your worst, always being that warm comforting presence you craved..
"Looks like you missed me~" He chuckled softly, pulling you closer in that umbrella.. "Got stranded I see.. Let me walk you back, maybe give you some warm caramel macchiato to remove the chill.."
You both started to walk towards Misaki Cafe, a comfortable silence falling between you two. He took a glance at you, then another, this time it was lingering. He noticed you your wet hair clung to your face, cheeks red with cold, a small water droplet astray on your lower lip.
That sight maddened him, and before his rational brain could think, he had already pulled you in a searing kiss, the umbrella forgotten on the sidewalk because he had pulled you closer by the waist, kissing you softly yet passionately, because after all he'd been waiting a lot for it. For your taste, to feel your lips on his, to just kiss you and keep on kissing you..
After a long kiss, you both pulled back, flushed, panting and breathless. Then after a momentary silence of both your brains just processing what happened, you both got extremely shy.
He awkwardly picked up the umbrella and the bag. "W-we are a-almost there.." He said avoiding your gaze..
"Y-yeah.. Um.. Let's go.." You could see the cafe down the road. Thankful that the distance wasn't too much. As you both entered, he started to arranged the supplies in the cabinets below the counter. Just then you spotted Haibara, finishing his assignment, and heard his aunt coming down stairs
"Oh, you're back- wait.. Is that your girlfriend!?" Haibara immediately stood up, greeting you politely, asking you a thousand questions already assuming you both are dating and not even letting you answer because he got super excited
Just then, his aunt entered from the door that connected the cafe to their apartment above..
"Oh, toru..? Is this beautiful girl your girlfriend..? Oh she's so nice~ what a great choice!" Both his aunt, and his cousin were already raving about you two while you both just stood there, mind still reeling from that kiss, and now this..
"Listen you two,we.. We're not dating.." Satory finally said, blushing like crazy
"Oh.. I'm sorry I should have asked.." His aunt immediately apologized, feeling guilty about making you both uncomfortable
"Aww, well you both should date. See mom? The way they're blushing~" Haibara teased, only for his mother, Satoru's aunt to shut him with that infamous mom glare.
"Sweetie, I'm sorry. Satoru has been talking about you nonstop. I figured you both were dating. When I saw you today, i was genuinely happy, maybe you can come again this weekend like always. I'd love to teach you how to bake Japanese sweets! I know, from all his praising, that you're a very hard working and humble woman.." His aunt smiled softly. Satoru was looking like he wanted to dig a hole in the ground and hide in it. You weren't supposed to know how much he speaks about you.. To his utter gratefulness, you focused on the sweets part and agreed.
Not only because hia aunt was such a sweet lady but also beautiful you wanted to learn more about his culture and the tradition sweets..
That weeked, when the cafe was closed that Saturday, you showed up. Satoru was already there with his aunt and Yu was on his football practice. His aunt taught you how to make mochis, then after making a batch left to pick up haibara, leaving you and Satoru alone. You both hadn't talked since that kiss..
"So.. I guess we're alone now... I can help you make the next batch.." Satory said breaking the silence
"Oh um.. Sure.." It was awkward at first.. But then when he accidentally smeared a bit of bean paste on your cheek, you smeared a flour on him. And then, looking at how absurdly stupid you both burst out laughing.. Until he gently wiped off the bean paste, looking at you lovingly..
"You're beautiful when you're carefree like that~" Satoru noticed you getting shy and biting your lower lip.. "Someone is shy I see.." He tilted your head upwards
"Says the one who nearly burst with embarrassment after his aunt revealed he talks so much about me.." You teased back..
Satoru pulled you closer, your hands instinctively finding purchase on his shoulder
"Oh yeah? Teasing me now..? Let's see then, who wins.." He whispered huskily, his breath warm against your lips..
Your faces were inches apart, lips nearly brushing. Until you heard someone gasp audibly from the entrance.
His aunt had her hand clasped over her mouth, haibara was giggling
"Told you mom, they are dating!"
Two months later, you both graduated with honors. Him in his masters in Aerospace engineering, and you getting your doctorate in Astrophysics. Satoru confessed to you on the evening of the baking day, after getting a break from the playful teasing of his aunt and haibara, as you both were eating mochis in his bedroom, cuddling on the bed.
You both bought a house in Geneva a few more months, near the Misaki Cafe. Haibara had also graduated high school, now looking after the cafe with another barista they hired.
A year later, two years after that tutoring night, you both were snuggled up on the big bean bag in your balcony, facing the Alps, a lake in front of it at a distance, just stargazing.. When he gently held your hand. You intertwined your fingers with his, until you suddenly felt a cold metal slip into your ring finger. You immediately looked down, seeing a beautiful diamond ring shining under the moonlight.. You eyes filled with tears of pure love and extreme happiness as you heard him say those words
"Marry me, my little genius.. I know this isn't the fanciest proposal. But knowing you, I knew you'd love something intimate, under the very stars we both love.. Promise me, you will be my forever..?" He gently cupped your face, wiping away the tears falling down
"T-toru.. " You sobbed in his arms, whispering yes over and over again because your heart was so full of love that it started to overflow through your eyes. He held you close to his chest, rubbing your back his own tears threatening to fall..
"My beautiful wife to be, my Mrs. Gojo~" He kissed your forehead lovingly..
The wedding was beautiful. Intimate and cozy, with just family and friends in the backdrop of the Alps. You both purposely chose evening time for your wedding, because after every one had left, it was just you two. The stars were visible in the twilight glow, as he set the camera, pulling you close. You both moved the rythm of a silent tune, the voice of the nature at night. And that moment was better than any music. Just you both in each other's arms, having the last dance of the day and the first dance of the beginning of a new life together. That's why you chose evening, because you both would get to dance under the stars after everyone had left and record it to see it again.. At last, he pulled you in a sweet kiss..
You had finally officially added serenium to the periodic table, now having your own big team of top educators from big universities, and helping students globally for research programs, expanding IdeaGlobal. You and Satoru both worked in it together, and later did your own research on dark matter in the laboratory you both built outside your house in your big yard.
You both still live in that same house. Now with two more people, your sons. Megumi who is 8 and Yuuji who is 6.
Haibara is married to, with 5 more cafes accross Geneva
"Mama, you found the right man.. Papa is the best guy in the world~ I hope I find a girl like you too, who will support me and love me always.." Little megumi said while watching that dance video tape he found in your bedside table, connecting it to the TV.
Little yuuji bounced on the sofa excitedly. "Mama and Papa are shoooo cute!!"
You admired your sons fondly, remembering that beautiful night.
Just then, your husband, Satoru entered with two hot cups of caramel macchiato and two cups of hot chocolate. Still made your coffee daily just the way you like it.
"Hey now, calm down yuuji, hold the cup carefully hm?" He handed the two hot chocolate cups to the boys, while handing the coffee to you, kissing your lips softly, before you all settled on the couch and watched iron man for the nth time because yuuji loved it..
