after years of imprisonment and torture, the peace of the tower was a welcome departure from the nonstop agony she had once known. even still, it was hard at times to remember that she was safe. the voice that broke the silence of the tower didn't cause koriand'r to jump, but something in her tensed before she realized it was raven. looking down at the bottle she had opened, kori nodded once. "yes, i believe there is another in the refrigerator. i would be happy to get it for you, if you would like?"
"No, I can get it. Thank you, for offering." Whether Kori wanted her to know or not, Raven realized she had startled her. The emotion was sharp and bitter, cloying on the back of her tongue as it tangled with hints of fear. She pressed her lips together, trying not to comment on it as she walked toward the kitchen.
"I was just finishing up my evening meditation." she said, opening the fridge to retrieve the water. "How are you settling in?" she asked, wanting to give her room to talk if that's what she needed.
