while ramses loved the outdoors, there was no doubt that the slightly cold-climate was making his body shiver. it wasn’t really what he was used to, and now he was cursing at himself for not bringing extra warm clothes. wrapping the hoodie tighter, the professor shook their head at the question. “ it looks freezing. i might join you after i see you jump in, in case i get hypothermia. ”

She nodded at his response then got up, took off her clothes, and placed her feet in the water first. Although, before officially getting into the lake, she turned around to look at him and say, “If you want, we could always do something too. Don’t get me wrong, I do want to go swimming, but I’m cool with doing something you’d like to do as well.”

“I didn’t actually say I wouldn’t,” Dax chuckled as he moved to put his sunglasses in his bag. “Sounds good. I’ll be…right here.” Laughing again, he pushed himself off the ground and toed off his shoes and socks, keeping them beside his bag. Dax pulled his shirt off over his head and shoved it into his bag, happy to have already had his swim shorts on.

“I know, but I just wanted to make sure.” Getting up from her spot, she hurriedly went to her tent to change into her bikini and soon went back over to him, tying her hair up into a ponytail with the hair-tie around her wrist. “Sorry if I kept you waiting,” she said, making her way closer to the water before glancing over her shoulder at him. “I’m just hoping the water won’t be that cold.”

Emilie glanced down to the picturesque lake water, watching as Astrid’s foot made mere small movements that had rippling impacts.  Her lips creased into a crooked half-smile, the grin saying it all.  “Wanna hear a story?  When I was a kid we drove to this lake in Rhode Island with a family close to my own.  Apparently the water must’ve had some bad shit in it…quite literally, because by the time we returned home I was the only one that didn’t have E. Coli.”  She lamented, subtle laughter following her words.  “Okay, sorry, that probably doesn’t make you want to go for a swim - but yes, I would love to.  I’ve got faith in this lake.”

Hearing a voice beside her, she gave the other brunette a smile before nodding. “Sure.” As she listened though, her smile slowly faded into a small frown because of the story. “Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. Your family turned out alright though, right?” Then, soon enough, her smile returned due to the laughter and nodded once more. She was just glad to see any students smiling. “You don’t have to apologize, you know. It’s alright. I’ve got faith in this lake too.” Standing up from her place, she began to put her stuff away before already starting to undress, having her bikini underneath her clothes. “Ready?” she asked, turning her body toward Emilie.

      “I’m not going to get hurt by water.” Unsure of how else to be with her, Ren gave an awkward laugh that travelled through the air. “I’ll come back up if I feel like I’m losing air that fast. It’s just a swim.” Had he sounded as if he were trying to hurt himself? It was a fairly normal thought, at least for him - or someone like him who found didn’t comfort in swimming and diving to the bottoms of pools and the shallower ends of lakes. “It’s like snorkeling. Don’t worry. You could… come with me.” He wasn’t quite sure how to be around her. Never had been, never would be, and certainly didn’t want to; he liked that she always made him nervous and confused, but sometimes it grew frustrating because Ren liked to have answers laid out right in front of him.

Even with the reassurance, she didn’t quite believe that. She knew anything could happen within a second. She looked at life with the glass half full, but with recent events, she didn’t want anything to happen to Ren. He was one of the few she couldn’t stand to lose. “I--...” She bit down on her bottom lip before nodding. “I’ll go,” she finally said, turning her body to fully face him. “Question though, have you done this before or is this going to be something new for you? Because it’s definitely going to be new for me, so I’m just worried. You can’t blame me for that, can you?“ Worst case scenarios did begin entering her mind, but she attempted to push those away because all of a sudden, she brought him into a hug.

“I brought my own but it doesn’t work.” He pulled his bottle of bug spray out and waved it around in her face. “I’m sure by the time it gets darker there will be more bugs out and I’ll probably be eaten alive but it is what it is- I was the one who agreed to come on this trip.”

She nodded as she glanced at the spray before looking around them. "Would you like me to ask a few others if they have any to spare then?" Without waiting for a response though, she dug through her bag and only let out a sigh before putting it back in it's original position, both straps over her shoulder. "I'd give you one if I brought any too."

Dax was sprawled out on his towel, relaxing in the sun. He’d been babysitting a bunch of troublemakers all day and finally he’d decided to get some other professor to keep an eye on them while he took a break. Hearing someone speak out to him, Dax sat up and pushed his sunglasses to the top of his head. “You know what, that actually sounds like a great idea.”

Her smile widened at his response and nodded at that. “So, that does mean you’ll join me, right?” Sitting up straight, she was placing her stuff away into her bag before getting up from her place to brush the sand off her shorts. “Just give me a moment and I’ll go change then, okay? I promise it won’t be long.” She would have taken off her shirt and shorts right there and went in with just her bra and underwear, but the fact students were around, she knew she had to not be so lazy and change into an actual bathing suit.

After finally finishing a sketch, she sat at the edge of the shore while watching the waves would go back and forth, coming near her to touch her feet then moving back. She could stare at the view all day, but she was also in the mood for something else. Turning her head to any nearby people, she showed a smile before asking, “Hey, wanna join me for a swim? The water looks pretty nice today.”

Buzz slapped the side of his neck as soon as a bug landed on it and hissed through his teeth. “I fucking hate bugs. This- This is exactly why I don’t enjoy the great outdoors. The great outdoors have bugs and bears.. maybe not in this part of New York but still fuck that. I’m going to start wearing a bug net over my entire body.”

She overheard the student’s words before furrowing her eyebrows at him. “I’m sure someone around here as bug repel. Have you tried asking around?” She knew some of the students were complaining about the place, but she still stayed positive and tried to bring that toward the rest of the students. “I’m sure by the time it gets darker, you’ll enjoy the place. Just think of how wonderful the sky will look.”

      As his eyes took in the lush scenery of heavily forested land and a campground that looked perfectly manicured for a film, Ren could only groan and wish that he were back home. This long away from his daughter was one thing, but this far away from his daughter and he was camping? Never before had he liked going outside let alone to endure in some antiquated style of living. His parents, thankfully, had never been the camping type and growing up in a thriving city helped that. The only appealing thing he’d found so far was the lake and as he stood at the water’s shore, he wondered allowed, “I wonder how deep it goes before I’d actually hit the bottom. I kind of want to challenge myself.”

Traveling for a couple of years, the brunette eventually knew what camping was like and didn’t quite mind it as much. She didn’t have a preference when it came between a city and the woods since she found both places had an infinite amount of things to draw/paint, stare, and appreciate. Both places had their own perks too. For example, they had their own personal lights. The city had actual light bulbs while the forest had stares. It’s been a while since she really went to the outdoors this long though and was thankful for such an event. The only thing she couldn’t stop thinking about was whether or not another disaster was going to come up. However, her worries were slowly fading away as she heard Ren’s voice. She smiled a little before shaking her head. “As much as I want you stay here, I still hope you’ll come back safely.”

Cynthia had just been minding her own business, following the path down to the lake when she felt the familiar texting of sticky strings agaisnt her skin, and she couldn’t even control the girly reaction that came from it. She hated spiders, not because of the creatures themselves but because of those awful webs, so when she started flailing, dropping her bag and her phone to try and swat the web from her body she didn’t even care who saw, cursing and groaning as she bounced from foot to foot. “Fuck! Fuck I hate them, I hate them,” She whinned as she rubbed at her arms frantically looking over and noticing the person who had stopped to watch her dramatic dance, her cheeks flushing red and a nervous laugh leaving her mouth, “I walked into a spider web,” She mumbled, flinching when she thought she felt something crawling on her and swatted at her hair, laughing again from the embarrassment of it all, “You really should have taken the web down for me, how did you miss it?”

She watched over the student once she began freaking out over the spider web and pursed her lips at that before letting out a sigh. “I apologize,” she replied softly. “I would have if I knew there was one around, but I was taking in the scenery first.” After saying those words, Astrid just that, turning her head to face the direction of the water as she looked at the other side of the lake. Sitting on a log, she brought out her sketchpad and colored pencils before beginning to sketch the view. “Are you alright though? If you need help with anything else, I don’t mind doing that.”

With a groan of frustration, Dax leaned forward at his desk with his elbows pressed into the hard wood and hands covered his face. His small office had become a cage for the past few hours, the four walls keeping him confined even with the door open. Perhaps he hoped someone would walk past, disturb him from his work and give him an excuse to not think about the many papers on his desk. The papers he’d been given by one of the professors to grade were dull, lifeless, uninspiring. He was sure there was a gem somewhere in the pile, but nothing as of yet. Dax pushed back from his desk and leaned back in the chair, spinning slowly in a circle as he stared up at the ceiling. Maybe it was time to call it a night. It was so late and his bed sounded so comfortable… 

Staying on campus after the classes she taught were over, Astrid figured she could find some place to do more artwork for her own personal pleasure and entertainment. Which was why passing by a class, she assumed the room was empty, but as soon as she opened the door, she realized somebody else was there and jumped slightly. “Oh! Sorry! I didn’t mean to disturb you,” she said quietly. “I’ll just, uh... be on my way.” She held a sketchbook in one arm with a backpack over a shoulder. She could find any other place more comfortable, but some of the sights outside the window were a lot better here than back at her own place. “Again, I’m sorry.”

Regina closed her eyes again once she established that the girl didn’t want her to move, and rested her head back again. When she opened them her head had started spinning once again and it was hard to focus on faces. The girl felt like she couldn’t catch her breath, and her heart was banging at an odd pace in her chest. She tried to take deep breaths, counting slowly as she held onto her breath for four before letting it rush out. “I’m just, taking a second I felt a bit dizzy.” she said in a quiet voice, her hands in balls next to her on the floor as she tried to stop them shaking. 

"If you're feeling dizzy, why don't you go to the nurse?" she asked with a worried tone. "I can take you there, if you'd like. I wouldn't mind, I promise. Plus, I do want you to be okay instead of feeling sick on the ground. Should I just call someone to come and get you if you don't want to go to a nurse?" Maybe she was asking too many things too quickly, but she did get worried all of a sudden. She didn't want to see a student, or anyone else, being sick or hurt.

Astrid stared at the girl for a few more seconds before eventually nodding. “Alright, I trust you and I'm not uncomfortable by it. I don't want to get in trouble. That's all.”
