The world is filled with nice people, if you can’t find one be one.

People experience horrible things every day, and they still manage to be nice to others. Being an asshole is not something you’re born with, or something you become. It’s a choice.

Letting out a sigh, Perry relaxed his shoulders and began unwrapping his hands as he turned. “Sorry, I thought you were one of the trainers,” he mumbled sheepishly. He found himself unable to meet Astrid’s eyes, feeling caught even though he hadn’t actually been doing anything wrong. Well, nothing other than going a little too hard in the training room.
Crouching down where he’d dropped his gym bag nearby, he pulled out his towel and water bottle. Perry carefully wiped the sweat from his face and took a long drink from the bottle stalling as he tried to come up with something to say to Astrid. He didn’t really talk with anyone about his relationship with his dad other than Logan, Ethan, and Stella. He didn’t want Astrid to think he was just some spoiled kid who was mad because he didn’t get enough attention, even though that’s what he always felt like.
“I’m fine,” he said again, quieter this time. “It’s nothing. It’s just stupid.”
Astrid couldn’t help but laugh when Perry said that he had thought that she a trainer. Astrid? A trainer? No, she couldn’t imagine it. “Nope, afraid that it’s just me. Sans plants, so I can understand why you might have had a bit of trouble recognizing me.
“If you have to say that it’s nothing and stupid then I think that it might be something. And it probably isn’t stupid, either.” Astrid knew that she might be naive at times, but she thought that she was pretty good with people. She was an RA, afterall. And her time working in flower shops had given her some more insight as well. “You can talk to me, if you want. I promise I won’t judge. I talk to plants.”

“Probably just force of habit,” Myriam said with a shrug and a smile. She watched quietly as Astrid entered her apartment. When she pointed to her plant Myriam nodded. “Absolutely, they could probably use your green thumb.” Myriam’s plants were well looked after but Astrid would only help things.
“It’s more than just my thumb that’s green, thank you.” Astrid said, finally making her way over to the plants. “Well hello there.” She cooed to the plants, reaching out to stroke their leaves. As she did so she directed happy thoughts towards them, giving them encouragements to grow big and healthy. She knew it was probably strange to watch from the outside, cooing over plants and stroking them like they were babies or animals, but it’s how she best liked to use her powers when given the opportunity. Statisfied with the attention she had given to the plants she turned back to Myriam. “There! They were fine, very happy, I just gave them some encouragement.”
Perry blinked hard at the sting of sweat dripping into his eyes. He shook out his fist and shifted his stance as he prepared to unleash another barrage of punches on the dummy standing unfeelingly in front of him. He’d come into the power-neutralizing training room over an hour ago, completely riled up after a heated phone call with his dad and afraid he’d lose control anywhere else on campus and hurt someone. As the song playing in his earbuds shifted into some deep, driving edm track he’d layered, he threw another punch, feeling the burn in his arms and the bruises forming on his wrapped knuckles. He knew if he kept up like this, eventually a trainer would come over, concerned about how hard he was going without breaks, but he didn’t care. Chest heaving, he threw another punch, closing his eyes and picturing his dad instead of the white manikin before him. It wasn’t long before Perry felt the presence of someone else standing uncomfortably close to him.
“I’m fine,” he growled out, ripping out his earbuds but not turning around.
It wasn’t hard for Astrid to admit the hand to hand combat wasn’t her strong suit. Anything of a physical nature wasn’t really to her strengths. She was more of a distance, hands off fighter. But, since she was aware of it she figured that she should work on it. Try to improve. You never know when you would need to throw a good punch, anyways. So she had made her way to the training room. And was pleasantly surprised when she came across Perry. The surprise turned a bit towards concern when she saw the expression that was on his face.
“I was just saying hi, not asking how you were. But since you brought it up...”
