The Ultimatum is the most depressing show to watch because you see some genuinely nice people trapped in miserable relationships with someone who abuses them, then you get to see them spend 3 weeks in a "trial marriage" with someone else, and suddenly they see what its like not to live with a toxic person constantly micromanaging, gaslighting berating them. But just when you start to hope that they've learned enough to leave their original toxic situation, they have to spend *another* three weeks with their original partner, who just gaslights them and overwrites the trial experience with new memories like all of that was just a wistful dream. And then at the end, it's TV so they're pressured to propose/ accept a proposal on camera, and in the worst cases they actually get married having learned nothing from the experience at all
