One thing that tends to peeve me about some people in this fandom is how some of us are so quick to jump and defend what Sol did to the solar system.

Look, I understand that he had his reasons and those reasons stem from positive intentions, but that does not mean they were good. He wanted everyone to be safe, sure, but...

• Locking everyone in place far away from their friends knowing they are all sentient and could suffer immensely from social deprivation (and Neptune already doing so even with their cartoonishly close orbits because he was scared of leaving due to what the Sun is capable of)

• Toying around with planet orbits in a roulette format - including Earth's when we know very well he has intelligent life that all have specific requirements to be able to survive

• Threatening to cause and actually causing harm to the other celestials on multiple occasions, even if accidental

...do not sound particularly like "good" actions to me.

I love Sol, I really do, I think he is a very interesting character and he resonates with parts of me a lot, but that doesn't mean i'm gonna jump to defend everything he's done. Even if Sol is going through a lot mentally due to past traumas, that doesn't justify the actions he's committed, it's just an explanation for why they happened. An important lesson a lot of us need to learn is "explanations for why a character does something ≠ an immediate justification." What we'd prefer Sol to have here is not forgiveness from anyone, rather a second chance to prove he can do better (but even that isn't a mandatory thing! Second chances aren't always deserved or given.)

The amount of times i've seen people say things like "The Sun did nothing wrong!!" "I am his number 1 defender!!" kills me inside. He has done bad things. He's done awful things. You should not defend him against anyone. He was, overall, a bad guy and we should not take this behaviour with a grain of salt. It is very important that we understand the difference between a justification and an explanation for experiences that may even happen to you in real life. This is exactly why Sol's character arc exists.

Just a small rant I needed to get out there now that it's half 5 in the morning and I can't sleep.

oh boy do i have headcanons

1. when he was a kid, he used to always ask jupiter to read him books, especially fact-books (is that what they’re called?) and now he reads to phobos and deimos! though they’re more interested in fairytales and such

2. he has the immune system of a god. he’s been sick like one time during his entire life and thought that he was going to die

3. he likes super mario. his favourite character is, well, mario, since he always stands up for what’s right, and is in general a good person

4. he listens to queen

5. has zero interest in fashion, so he mainly wears hoodies. his favourite is one that was given to him by earth (he listened to hoodie by hey violet religiously when they were arguing back in the earth alone arc)

the day solarballs makes a mars plushie will be the day i actually buy something from the shop

cause tell me why this guy has been a RELEVANT character since the start of the show, and has not gotten a plushy. proto and theia both got plushies immediately after their arc was over, yet mars and mercury are still waiting in the corner.

this guy is genuinely going trough the wringer. he’s gotten minor development, most of the episodes that center around him, have all something to do with earth (terraform mars arc, venus vs mars, planets vs moons) with the exception of a few minor episodes

like alvaro pls give this guy some space to shine plsplps

i will continue preaching this cause he’s such an underrated character!!

the new solarballs episode was so fricking cute

earth’s little victory stroll was adorable, it must sucked to have been alone for stars know how long

the planets being in shock was so fun!! i mean imagine your controlling dad suddenly becoming normal in practically the blink of an eye

the sun puns at the end?? the promise of old solarballs?? count me in!!

and the best part of the episode; jupiter and sun making up. they’re seriously one of my top duos in the show, because jupiter was his first planet. the first person to ever care about the sun. and then jupiter dealing with his outbursts for billions of years, and stressing to take care of the younger planets (something that should be suns responsibility). and not to mention the guilt of destroying the early rockies, just for the sun to say that it’s not your fault!! and then jupiter empathising with him still!!! like oh my god my heart melted!!

this is genuinely one of the best solarballs episodes in a while. i really love the episodes where they just talk together, and interact, and have fun. it reminded me a lot of “The rocky planets” (another personal favourite of mine)

the only thing that was missing was for marth to finally become canon, but that’s just wishful thinking 😞

This is sorta random but someone said something on Twitter that I can’t stop thinking about.

Whenever the other planets are referring to earth or wanting to keep earth safe, they’re not even really referring to earth. They’re just talking about his earthlings. Earth was placed in the front of the line not because sun wouldn’t solar flare him, but because he wouldn’t solar flare his earthlings.

The moment I realized this on the server broke my heart.

Let me add onto the angst.

During the Earth in Kuiper Belt arc, everyone kept worrying about his Earthlings. "He won't do that, his Earthlings don't like it! What about his Earthlings?!' Blah blah.

Saturn was the first person to ask him if he was okay. Not his life, not his Earthlings- he asked Earth if HE was okay. And then gently tried to coax him back, but couldn't leave because asteroid belt.

So basically

Mama Saturn was the only one in that arc to care about the poor baby and not the little ants he has on his surface.
