neon genesis evangelion - ritsuko & asuka
rosemary’s baby (1968) Roman Polanski
mother! (2017) Darren Aronofsky
the end of evangelion (1997) Hideaki Anno
this is actually so wild to me because of the violence against women used in all three of these movies, with the body of the mother as the vessel for pain and suffering
+ aronofsky’s plagiarism is well established. he’s a hack who purchased the rights to satoshi kon’s perfect blue to steal wholesale scenes for black swan and requiem of a dream without fear of suit. knowing him it’s likely he turned to eoe for inspiration, and knowing anno he likely borrowed from karel thole likewise

For my fifty-eighth Evangelion book review, here is Ide Koji no Evangelion Forever (Koji Ide’s Evangelion Forever), published by Amuse Books. Koji Ide is a musician and radio personality who also happens to be an Eva fan, so in this book he explores the Evangelion TV series and The End of Evangelion with a little help from the voice actors and producer. Cool!
This book is not available in English or French, but there are a number of pictures (some in full color, some in black-and-white). The dust jacket is also removable, and the alternate cover art hidden underneath is a bunch of silhouettes of the Evas, printed in golden yellow. What I like about this book is that it has nice pics of some of the voice actors, which is something that we don’t usually get to see in most Eva books. Of course, there are images of the characters as well, such as the ones on this page from a section about Kaworu:
Keep reading for the rest of the book review, plus a few more pictures!

asuka & rei
"Ever heard of the Hedgehog's Dilemma? Hedgehogs have a hard time sharing warmth with other hedgehogs. The closer they get, the more they end up hurting each other. People are like that as well."
also aside from me on my Bible special interest when i was 5 nonsense. the fact that after becoming whole again lilith still chooses to present herself as rei is something i think a lot about. she’s basically a god, yet she relates herself more to the little girl she was for such a brief time more than she does her original form. despite how traumatic and cruel rei's life was, lilith felt most comfortable as her, as one of her creations. and by the end, even the mixed form she takes is gone, and she is simply rei, as she appears in shinji's vision at the end of eoe. and idk i just think there’s something kind of sweet in a warped Evangelion way.
