Otaku culture isn't the entirety of japanese culture, in the same way that western nerd culture, which I think can uncontroversially be said to have a problem with misogyny, is not the entirety of western culture

which is of course not to say that neither western countries nor japan have problems with misogyny at all, it's a problem in every modern culture that I'm familiar with. Its just that it's generally worse in nerd culture in the current era
