The Lance doesn't take kindly to betrayal or attempts at "going rogue". To prevent such measures, they embed large life support systems into their cloned operatives to ensure their obedience. As such, the clones cannot remove their suits for very long without suffering intense physical repercussions. Once connected, the lighted portion of their suits (which runs along their spines) acts as a health indicator of sorts.

… ah. General. What a lovely surprise. Much as I hate to say it, my head ceased being yours a long time ago. My “deceit” might ring true in your mind, but let’s not forget that it was you that had me execute my sisters without my knowledge. In that regard… are you not also deceitful?

Zer0 nodded in acknowledgement. He’d only heard of the Altas Corporation, knowing that they were a manufacturer of multiple technologies and had something to do with Pandora’s recent past. It had all happened before the assassin arrived on the planet, so he didn’t pay all too much attention to it. Roland had mentioned it more than once in passing, he remembered, but beyond that he was rather ignorant. He wasn’t one to do research on things that no longer seemed important to his life.
“Atlas… don’t know them - not well, at least, I should say. Haven’t seen them here.”
"Really?" She sounded mildly amused. "I suppose I should be grateful for that fact." Athena was aware that she and the old Vault Hunters had wiped out the majority of Atlas' forces a few years ago, but she wasn't sure if they'd dispatched any troops to other parts of the planet. It seemed that, for now, at least, she could rest easy. Gray eyes peered at Zer0, as though she was awaiting some sort of instruction or command. Whether she actually wanted one was unknown; it was merely an instinct now, after spending her entire life in the Lance.
I've heard about you from Knoxx, strange, he didn't mention that you are cute.
Athena's gray eyes narrowed as she stared at the stranger, noting the almost royal shade of purple that made up the outfit adorning the woman's body. She'd originally wondered if the younger woman was some kind of military official, but the small, glowing badge that hung from the breast of her coat gave it away -- surely, she was a law-bringer of some sort."... cute?" she repeated, mildly confused. "No, I don't suspect he did. Knoxx was never the type to hand out compliments."

“I am one for speed, precision, and evasion. My body is fit,” he responded rather confidently. He’d gotten such comments on his form regarding his abilities in combat many times before, but anyone seeing him fight would know that he was more than capable. And the though of him being bulkier and more muscular was… really strange. Extremely unfitting.
“And what about you? What brings you to Pandora? You don’t seem native.” He’d be extremely surprised if she was indeed native. She seemed nothing of the sort.
Well... she was certainly in a pickle now. Inwardly, she weighed her options -- she could own up to her time in the Lance, or try to be as vague as possible. The last Vault Hunters she'd encountered had been ready and willing to help her and support her cause, but she could never be too sure. What was that old saying in the Lance? "Never place your trust outside your own"? Well, she certainly saw where that got her. Her entire squad had been mercilessly slaughtered due to an accident on her behalf. "... I used to work for Atlas," she finally replied, deciding that a vague approach was best for now.

Zer0 eyed her body language closely as she spoke, still trying to figure her out. Her name wasn’t familiar at all, and he really didn’t know what to think of her. She looked competent in Pandora’s terms, but that was all he could deduce. Nonetheless, he kept himself hyper-aware of the placement of his blade on his hip, more than ready to utilize it if need be.
“Pleasure to meet you,” the assassin responded with a nod of his head in greeting. “I’m one of the Vault Hunters. I’m known as Zer0.”
"A Vault Hunter, eh?" Her gray eyes narrowed slightly, though a faint hint of amusement sparkled within them. "Can't remember the last time I saw one of you." She gave him the once-over, eyeing his body shape and structure. "Don't take this the wrong way, but... aren't you a little scrawny to be chasing after hidden treasures?" One of the Vault Hunters she'd met years ago had been the same way. Skinny little guy with a pointy beard, goggles, and a very unfortunate haircut, if she recalled correctly.

“I could ask the same,” came the response of the assassin as he stood before her, his height having him look down to view her. How could she even assume he was gawking past the opaque plane of his mask? From his point of view, both of them were simply sizing each other up. He did that to everyone he met, though; can never be too careful, especially on Pandora. The way she held herself, straightened up like that, he assumed military, but he could be wrong. “I have not seen you before. Might I ask your name?”
"My name is Athena," she replied calmly, tilting her head back ever so slightly in an almost indignant gesture. In reality, she was just trying to get a better look at him; she was already rather short in stature, and this man was well over the normal height of men she encountered. Back when she first defected from the Lance, she was hesitant to give out her name, opting to ask for theirs first. If they were even remotely associated with the Lance, she'd either fight -- and kill -- them on the spot, or teleport away to a safer place. At this point, she just didn't care anymore. The former assassin was confident in the skills that the Lance had embedded into her during her creation. Aside from one incident at Moxxi's, the brunette had been able to hold her own in any fight she came across. "And you are?"

Athena's gray eyes narrowed as the lean man approached her, the sunlight from above reflecting off of his oddly-shaped mask. In all her years in the Lance, she'd never come across armor like his before, which meant she couldn't be sure if he was friend or foe... Her lips curled into a frown as she gently clasped her hands behind her back, which she quickly straightened as he approached. Black bangs, streaked with gray, fell over her forehead and eye as she tilted her head to the side, staring at Zer0 curiously. "Yes? Is there something I can do for you, or are you just here to gawk aimlessly?"
