"You won't be drinking tonight, will you?" Jean-Paul asked, and Anja looked confused for a moment.
"I thought Kurt and Rogue wanted me to, for my birthday and all...?" Anja looked around, feeling thoroughly confused at the chaos around them. For a group of superheroes, they were remarkably disorganized as a group of people. Particularly ones trying to enjoy themselves.
"But it's not your birthday."
Anja just looked at him, somewhat dumbfounded at his acknowledgement of the fact. "I didn't know you knew."
*~*"Jean-Paul," Anja murmured, two hours and a drink later. "I think he's looking at you."
"I didn't say anything. Just, he's looking at you."
She smiled into her drink as Jean-Paul looked over suspiciously and finally picked himself up to approach the man at the other end of the bar.
Five drinks later, Anja plopped down at the bar, leaning against Jean-Paul in a gesture that was less comforting than it was to stabilize her. "J-Jean-Paul," she greeted him with a smile too large and happy for his current mood.
"I'm sorry he was so terrible," she said, attempting to sound sober. It wasn't working.
"I'm sure Kurt and I can keep you company instead! We'd be more fun than him."
His head whipped around and he studied her warily. What was she on about? "That's-- I don't-- Anja, that's rather inappropriate."
She paused, sitting up straight with a confused expression on her face. "Oh. But I thought nobody likes being alo--Â Ohhh..." She paused for a moment. "Well, that... makes sense... Just Kurt, then?"
"Anja!" Jean-Paul should have felt offended, should have chastised her, but the earnest expression on her face just made him laugh. "I will be fine, I assure you."
How they had ended up back home was something of a mystery, but how Anja had ended up in his bathroom, coughing and vomiting into the toilet was just as confusing.
"Never again?" He asked, somewhat amused that he'd escaped the night with only a slight dry throat and a headache that needed nothing more than coffee to cure.
"No," Anja all but sobbed into the toilet. "Never again. I hate them. I hate them all." She retched again and Jean-Paul held her hair back as she emptied her stomach of its contents. "I hate Kurt and I hate Rogue and I hate everyone..."
He chuckled softly as Anja went on. Typical Sunday morning.
