Will always be crazy to me the amount of hoops the writers and audience were willing to jump through to make Billy likeable but nobody was able to extend the same grace to Kali.

Billy was a product of his environment, but he was also a racist, sexist abuser who took out his anger on his 13 year old step-sister, her (not even) boyfriend and the rest of her friends. And the fandom not only found it in their hearts to forgive him but he became a fan favourite character. He was half of the fandom’s number 1 ship on ao3 for years and it’s still the 3rd most popular.

Kali made the decision to take revenge on her abusers and the people who enabled her horrific abuse and was instantly villainised for it by the fandom. From the minute she turned up people were saying that they didn’t trust her, that something about her seemed “off”, that she was manipulating El and didn’t care about her and so much more. Then, when she was brought back in season 5, people immediately started theorising that she was actually evil and working against El. Hardly anybody had the ability to give her any kind of grace or understanding for what she’d been through - when honestly, her actions weren’t just understandable, they were completely valid.

jancy or no, jonathan should have talked to nancy about holly going missing. of EVERYONE in the show, he got it. if anyone in the writer’s room still cared, he would have gotten it.

The fact they made it a plot point is season 4 that the major reason Jonathan didn’t tell Nancy about Emerson is because he didn’t want to leave them and be like his father and then never addressed it in season 5, not even in the jancy breakup is so upsetting to me. Every time I post about Jonathan I keep getting reminded how little the writers cared about him and about properly closing his arc because the way they dumbed down his issues is unnerving…they actually lost the plot.
