Bully Problems and Dark Arts Part 2
Warning: angst, smut (eventually), dark magic, bullying
The Titles and sigils of three profound and known houses lay before me. Confusion was the first emotion to come forward. Did these ravens bring their mail to the wrong student? I never get mail except for the Daily Prophet....so who would send me something from these families? Next came suspicion. Why would someone send me anything with these sigils?
Lost in my thoughts, another owl came. This one landed in front of Lily. From her expression of confusion, I knew that this owl had a letter from her father. Lily and her father had a....typical father-daughter relationship until she was sorted into Ravenclaw. While he was completely fine with her sorting, he had a tendency to push her to be friends with the children of his old housemates and classmates from his Hogwarts days. Hugo Weasley was the main one. While their friendship was strong, Lily admitted that she felt her father expected her to...end up being the best of friends with his best mates son. Lily scoffed and tossed the letter for me to read.
It came to my attention that your friend is the heir to House Black. I know that you trust her and that she has been your friend since your first year. Gringotts owled me a statement of the Black family tree and it turns out that she is your cousin. The unknown granddaughter of Sirius Black. It seems that he had two children that he didn't know of before I was even born. The mothers never came forward with their children, both girls. One died during the first war with her mother at the age of one. The other till the wage of twenty, by then she had given birth to your friend. Gringotts did not inform me who her mother was, however, I need you to tell me about her. Sirius would give me hell beyond the grave for letting maddness back under the Black family.
Scoffing, I tossed the letter in the air and engulfed it in flames. Lily watched the ashes begin to fall with a look of disdain in her eyes. Sighing, I slid my letters over to Lily. Upon seeing the three sigil’s she grabbed them and my hand. We glanced at Rose and Tulip who nodded and the three of us quickly walked out of the Great Hall. I could feel seven pairs of eyes follow us out but none followed. We were too quick to follow anyway. Within seconds we were outside the castle near the Whomping Willow who shook slightly at our presence. I first took the Black letter. As it sat in my hands, I felt no curses or jinxes. Opening the letter I found that it was a statement from Gringotts Boblin Bank.
We at Gringott’s Goblin Bank have come to recognize that you are a direct descendant of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black. Your father was one Regulus Arcturus Black. Although it was believed that he was killed in the early 80’s, it has come to our attention that he died instead in the year 1998 shortly before the Battle of Hogwarts. With this revelation, you are now the Heiress of the House of Black. Sirius Black, believing his brother dead, was the proxy and thought himself the heir and did not check with our bank to officially take the mantle. He left the tile of Heir to his goddson who has some Black blood through his great grandmother, however, you have more Black blood and are directly related to a Black.
You are hereby, Heiress Y/N Black of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black. We expect to receive a reply so that we can begin to go over your family’s accounts and investments.
Rose, Tulip, and Lily read over my shoulders with a hand respectfully on each shoulder. The four of us audibly gasp and Lily squeezes my shoulder while Rose gently rubs my other shoulder and Tulip tries to soothe my upper back. What circumstances made them recognize me now? The Black family has no living relatives under the name, none with the title anymore. Me, related to infamous criminals and a dark family. Well, I guess that explains some things. But what of my mother…. I look at the Ravenclaw and LeStrange letters. Both the same script as the Black one. They must be from Gringott’s too. I opt to open the LeStrange letter next. In my hands, it feels the same as the first letter,
We at Gringott’s Goblin Bank have come to recognize that you are a direct descendant of the Most Ancient and Noble House of LeStrange. Your mother was one Elmult LeStrange, granddaughter of one Nozea LeStrange, whom never wed. Previously thought to have no children, she had a son in secret while vacationing in an unknown country of Eastern Europe. Her son was raised to view his mother as his godmother and did not know that he was a LeStrange until his daughter Elmult was born. He gave her his name and named her his heir. As the first war with Voldemort grew beyond England’s borders, Elmult’s father was one of the first to be pursued and killed by Voldemort who was looking for more allies. Your mother hid for years and met her end shortly before the Battle at Hogwarts, a few months after you were born.
She did have a will and she named you her Heir of House LeStrange. You are hereby Y/N LeStrange of the Most Ancient and Noble House of LeStrange. We expect a reply…..
It repeated the same as before in the House of Black letter. The LeStrange brothers were notorious in the two wars fighting for Voldemort, but I have never heard of Nozea LeStrange….she must’ve been older when she had her son unmarried. But then, how does the House of Ravenclaw fit into this. Neither the House of Black or LeStrange have been known as descendants of Rowena Ravenclaw. My friends were also silent. I would have to map out the family trees of House of Black and House of LeStrange after this. The last letter felt heavy in my hands, no curses or jinxes detected at all. Opening this letter felt like pure magic was pouring from its contents. A heavy and shaky exhale left my lips as I read the letter,
We at Gringott’s Goblin Bank have come to recognize that you are a direct descendant of the Upmost Ancient and Most Noble House of Ravenclaw. Your Great-Grandfather on your mother’s fraternal side was a direct descendant of one Rowena Ravenclaw. His name is not known but his blood is registered as her descendant. Your Great-Grandmother Nozea LeStrange and Great-Grandfather, who was Heir of House Ravenclaw, had a son who then fathered your mother Elmult LeStrange. Your maternal Grandmother is unknown at this time.
You are hereby Y/N, Grand Heiress of the Founder Rowena Ravenclaw and of the Upmost Ancient and Most Noble House of Ravenclaw. We expect…..
Hyperventilating was inevitable. Lily, Tulip, and Rose surrounded me, taking the letters from my shaking hands and holding them. I could only cry on my hands and knees, even as I felt familiar eyes watching from the walkway to the castle.
The very next day I awoke to feeling a swirl of something I never knew before. Recognition of myself. Love for myself. Understanding of myself. After Lily and Rose discretely helped me back to our shared dorm, we did a lot of research after getting our homework done. Everything the letters stated and implicated was true. The LeStrange family thought Novea to have no children and she did remain unwed. Through so very borderline illegal reference checking of all the books that referred to Rowena Ravenclaw, we discovered that she had more than the one child that most of our history books glorify. We also had a talk with Helena Ravenclaw and discovered that her mother had a total of five children in her lifetime, Helena being the youngest. Rowena had two sons and three daughters. Helena slimed at me and stared deeply into my eyes,
“You certainly carry my mothers eyes. It is our family trait, as well as our natural inclination of intellect. Our eyes have always been described as ‘so dark that they look like pools of depth filled with knowledge untold’. Like Uncle Godric’s family inheritance is his hair and brashness, Aunt Helena’s is her smile and herbology talent, and for Uncle Salazar, it was his green eyes and talent for defense. For some reason, people believed his ability to speak to snakes was a family trait. I can assure you it wasn’t, otherwise, how can you explain all the parseltounge speakers in Asian countries, Africa, South America, and the Natives of North America? I mean sure, there’s a chance you’ll have an easier time understanding and learning it when one of your parents has the ability, but it’s still a learnable language if the teaching is practical and safe. Even one of my brothers and one of my sisters learned the language. They lived quiet lives, my family, but it was my tragedy that became the legacy of my mother, it’s ridiculous!”
So, this morning, I awoke early despite my tiredness. I dressed and found that my Ravenclaw robes were now blue like my house color instead of black. Beside the Hogwarts sigil was the bold letters “B” and “L” intertwined. Resignation filled me as I was still learning to accept my full identity. Walking down to the common room of my House I found Kim Namjoon and Kim Seokjin alone. They were sitting on one of the main couches, reading. They looked up at my intrusion despite my being silent. Immediately their eyes went to my face in recognition and emotions were seen in their eyes. Recognition, confusion, and weariness. Their eyes then found my robes and they went wide. Analyzing and searching. Slowly they looked into my eyes, but it was Seokjin, the one who was once the greatest big brother who spoke,
Glancing between the two young men I once considered family, out of the respect I once held so dearly towards them, I stood firmly and nodded,
“My name is hereby Y/N Ravenclaw. Heiress to the Upmost Ancient and Most Noble House of Ravenclaw, the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black, and the Most Ancient and Noble House of LeStrange.”
Their books fell from their hands. Jaws dropped and faces slacked in shock. Namjoon cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure,
“Y/N, we….we never….we must apologize-”
My attention snapped to him and I all but hissed lowly,
“Now there is an apology. Like you and all the others like us, you seem to have forgotten, we are orphans of war. We were family. A community, and you all walked away from me. Each and every one of you lied and started keeping secrets, and then left me on my own. You seven formed your own coven before everyone else even entertained the idea of splitting off. Now, I have titles, a real identity, and you want to speak to me again?”
Both shook their heads with virtuosity,
“It wasn’t like that Y/N. We never meant to leave you behind. We loved you and we still do. Our powers all complemented each other, but yours stood out. You never fully blended as we did. It was nothing personal or intentional. We still care, we just don’t know how to talk to you anymore.”
“You formed your own coven too. There’s no denying that either. None of us could flow with you like that. Not like Lily Potter and Rose and Tulip Granger-Krum.”
My anger peaked but I didn’t need my powers to get my point across. I only needed words,
“When you love someone, you just don’t stop. Ever. Even when people roll their eyes or call you crazy...even then. Especially then! Do you think I didn’t hear them? I heard those girls flirting with you throughout the years. ‘You really hung around that girl?’ ‘Isn’t she deranged?’ ‘She’s so small and she doesn’t seem sane’ ‘You guys are crazy to let her still hand around you, she’s dead weight.’ I heard it all and don’t give me and shit about you not believing it. You each pulled away and acted as if I didn’t exist anymore. If that was your love for me then you don’t even understand the concept of love and you never deserved mine.”
From their expressions, I knew the words cut deep and they fell slump against the couch.
“You left without looking back, but I could always see you. I never stopped looking forward.”
It struck Namjoon then. That’s what he always told us when we were in a bind. When we were lost. He mumbled his own words to himself before abruptly standing and striding with ease directly in front of me,
“Then keep moving forward Y/N. But this time, I want to look forward with you. Not because of your new name and title, but because I really miss being your big brother.”
Jin appeared beside Namjoon, he looked at me with loss in his eyes,
“Jungkook won’t let us baby him anymore and he doesn’t need our advice as much anymore. You always asked us questions. You always had use for us. We never wanted to break apart, but with how things have been going between the seven of us lately….we need you to keep up together.”
